SCARBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB WERE FORCED INTO LIQUIDATION AT THE END OF THE 2006-07 SEASON. A NEW TRUST RUN CLUB HAS NOW BEEN FORMED "SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC" AND THIS BLOG WILL FOLLOW THEIR FORTUNES, BOTH ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD. UP THE BORO !!!
THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION
Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..
THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

F.A CUP VICTORY FOR BORO AWAY AT NORTHERN LEAGUE RYTON
We now had 7 days to prepare for the next game which was a league fixture against much fancied Farsley, they seem to fancy themselves also as it was reported that the general feeling in the club was that they would walk away with the NCEL Premier title easily. I don't think so !
A good sized crowd of 507 were present at Queensgate and Farsley were the eventual 2-1 winners on the day, it was a fairly dismal display by both sides.
The FA Cup tie at Chester Le Street was next and another defeat followed for the Boro, the scoreline was 2-1, we could now concentrate on the league and Vase.
7 days later, September 4th, and the Boro were once again heading north, this time towards Sunderland where they were playing against Seaham Red Star in the FA Vase, I think this is the competition which we have a realistic chance of winning and following a great all-round performance from the Boro we ended up 3-0 victors.
3 days later, on the same night as the England team were live on tv we were entertaining Dinnington Town in a league match at Queensgate, a respectable crowd of almost 400 turned up and were rewarded with a fine 4-0 victory by the Boro.
A trip to Liversedge followed and the outcome was a 2-2 draw, and one week later it was our next adventure in the FA Vase, yet more Northern league opposition, but this time we would be at home. A crowd of 462 attended the game and saw Boro win an exciting encounter 3-2.
The following Tuesday evening we faced a trip to Sheffield to play Hallam in a league fixture, Boro continued their good run and left Hallam with a 4-2 victory.
Next came a home game against Hall Road Rangers and another 4 goals for the Boro with just 1 conceded.
Next was arguably our biggest game of the season so far, a game against our 'landlords' Bridlington Town in the FA Vase, a crowd of 777 were inside Queensgate to witness a fantastic 2-2 draw .
The replay would take place just 3 days later with Bridlington Town deemed the home team and the prize for the winners would be a home fixture against Armthorpe Welfare on 13th November.
The next post will cover the replay and events which followed the final whistle in more detail.
