The formation of Scarborough Athletic Football Club.

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters.
A new manager was brought in "Brian France"and the team kicked off their first season of existence with a friendly against local team "Edgehill" and played out a 0-0 draw, their first competetive game in the Northern Counties East League Division One was away to Teversal, a game Athletic lost 2-1.
Because of the club's finacial situation, they are presently playing their "home" matches 20 miles down the east coast at Bridlington Town's Queensgate ground.

BLANK DAY FOR SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC FC.

No football for Boro today, but Bridlington Town were playing away to Armthorpe Welfare in the FA Vase, sadly for Town it was Welfare who progressed to the next round with a close 2-1 victory.
Pickering Town were held 1-1 at home by Dunkirk FC and will replay on Tuesday.
The next Vase result really surprised me as Rainworth MW went out of the competition losing 2-1 at home to Norton & Stockton.
In the Premier division of the NCEL the only top side to play were 5th placed Thackley who themselves were surprisingly beaten at home by Parkgate. (3-1)
TOP OF NCEL PREMIER DIVISION.
RAINWORTH 43
BRIDLINGTON TOWN 40
SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC 40
ARMTHORPE WELFARE 38
THACKLEY 33

JAMIE GREEN JOINS ARMTHORPE WELFARE.

I can hardly wait for the away game at Armthorpe Welfare on Saturday 20th February,  as thug, sorry goalkeeper Jamie Green has left Emley and joined Armthorpe, I think Green will adapt well to their style, as they were a very physical side when they faced us at Queensgate just a few weeks ago. It will be good to see how he reacts (if in fact he does play against us), to the travelling Boro fans who have not forgotton his diabolical behaviour at Queensgate in January 2008 in the home game in ncel division 1.
Green constantly abused Boro fans, even dropped his shorts at one point and should have been removed from the game long before the very late red card which he eventually received from one of the worst officials ever witnessed that season.
There were a total of 3 red cards and 6 yellow that day. along with some other unpleasant incidents, I really hope he will be playing against us, he  recently joined Armthorpe on the 4th Dec.

JIMMY GLASS TEAM-MATE POSSIBLY IN MALTBY MAIN TEAM TO FACE 'BORO.

Ex Carlisle United and Scarborough FC player Richard Tracey could be facing Scarborough Athletic on Saturday 12th December when his present team Maltby Main will be the visitors to Queensgate for an NCEL Premuer division game.
Richard was in the Carlisle United team which beat Plymouth Argyle at the end of the 1998/99 season thanks to United's goalkeeper Jimmy Glass coming out of his goal to score the Cumbrians winning goal in the 4th minute of injury time. The goal which kept the Cumbrians in the football league and relegated Scarborough to the Conference.
Richard played in 65 games for the Cumbrians, scoring 15 goals.
He joined Macclesfield Town in 2001, playing 37 games for them before actually signing for Scarborough FC.
However, the move to Scarborough resulted in Richard receiving a serious injury in his only appearance for the club which ended his professional career, later when recovered from the injury he played semi-pro for Bradford Park Avenue, Ossett Town, Frickley Athletic and Belper Town before signing for his present club 'Maltby Main' in December 2008.

THE TOP 5 FOLLOWING YESTERDAY'S RESULT'S

THE TOP OF THE NCEL PREMIER DIVISION LOOKS LIKE THIS TODAY (SUNDAY 29/11/09)
RAINWORTH MW            43
BRIDLINGTON TOWN     40
SCARBOROUGH ATH'     40
ARMTHORPE WELFARE 38
THACKLEY                       33

A GREAT SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE SAW THEM DEFEAT LIVERSEDGE 5-2 AT QUEENSGATE, BUT RUDY FUNK'S RAINWORTH HAVE THE TOP SPOT FOLLOWING THEIR 2-1 VICTORY OVER NOSTELL MW, ALTHOUGH THEY HAD TO RELY ON ANT LYNAM ONCE AGAIN TO FIND THEIR WINNING GOAL IN THE 75th MINUTE OF THE GAME, NOSTELL ACTUALLY HELD THE LEAD AT HALF TIME.
BRIDLINGTON TOWN HAD A GOOD 4-1 AWAY VICTORY AT HALL ROAD RANGERS AND SIT IN 2nd POSITION IN THE TABLE ABOVE SCARBOROUGH ON GOAL DIFFERENCE, BOTH TEAMS ON 40 POINTS.
BUT THE SHOCK RESULT OF THE DAY HAS TO BE THE HOME DEFEAT FOR ARMTHORPE WELFARE  BY THACKLEY WHICH PLACES THEM IN 4th POSITION.
THACKLEY ARE 5th 5 POINTS BEHIND WELFARE.

5-2 VICTORY MOVES BORO UP THE TABLE TO 3rd PLACE.

SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC MOVED UP A PLACE TODAY FOLLOWING THEIR EXCELLENT 5-2 VICTORY OVER LIVERSEDGE. A MUCH IMPROVED ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE WAS A DELIGHT FOR THE 452 FANS PRESENT AT A BITTERLY COLD QUEENSGATE.
IT TOOK THE GAME A LITTLE TIME TO WARM UP, AND IT WAS RYAN BLOTT WHO SCORED THE OPENING GOAL IN THE 23rd MINUTE, BUT TRUE TO FORM BORO COULD NOT HOLD ON EITHER TO THEIR SUPERIORITY OR THEIR LEAD.
IN THE 27th MINUTE DAVE RICARDO MAKING HIS BORO DEBUT COMMITED A FOUL IN THE BORO PENALTY AREA AND FROM THE RESULTING SPOT KICK LIVERSEDGE DREW LEVEL.
THIS REALLY MADE BORO STEP UP A GEAR AND IT ONLY TOOK A COUPLE OF MINUTES FOR US TO PULL LEVEL THROUGH CRAIG HOGG. JOEL HARTLEY WAS GIVING ANOTHER INSPIRED PERFORMANCE, RUNNING THE LIVERSEDGE DEFENCE RAGGED AND IT WAS FROM ONE OF HIS CROSSES WHICH LEAD TO THE NEXT BORO GOAL.HIS CROSS WAS MET BY CRAIG HOGG WHO MADE NO MISTAKE WITH AN EXCELLENT HEADER WHICH FOUND ITS WAY INTO THE BACK OF THE NET.
JUST ANOTHER 2 MINUTES PASSED AND CRAIG DOUBLED HIS TALLY TO PUT US 3-1 UP.
IT WAS ALL BORO NOW AND JUST A QUESTION OF HOW MANY GOALS WE WOULD EVENTUALLY WIN THE GAME BY.
HOWEVER, LIVERSEDGE MANAGED TO REACH THE HALF TIME WHISTLE JUST 2 GOALS BEHIND.
THE 2nd HALF KICKED OFF AND BORO WERE ON THE ATTACK, PHILLIPS, HOGG AND MILLAR ALL HAD CHANCES AS WELL AS JOEL HARTLEY HIMSELF ALMOST SCORING ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS.
THE 4th GOAL CAME ON 53 MINUTES FOLLOWING GOOD WORK BY MILLAR DOWN THE WING THE BALL WAS EVENTUALLY PUT IN THE NET BY RYAN BLOTT.
IT WAS ONE WAY TRAFFIC WITH BORO CREATING CHANCE AFTER CHANCE AND SCOTT PHILLIPS SUPERBLY HEADED HOME BORO'S 5th GOAL ON 62 MINUTES.
LIVERSEDGE DID MANAGE A 2nd GOAL WITH 15 MINUTES REMAINING AND THAT WAS HOW THE MATCH FINISHED WITH A 5-2 SCORELINE.
A GREAT  ALL-ROUND PERFORMANCE, MUCH IMPROVED ON THE PAST FEW GAMES, AND IT WAS A COLD BUT HAPPY BAND OF SUPPORTERS WHO LEFT QUEENSGATE WITH THEIR MINDS CONFIDENTLY ON THE NEXT GAME WHICH IS IN 2 WEEK'S TIME AT HOME TO MALTBY.
TEAM TODAY:
REID
MOORE
MILLAR
HARTAS
KEMP

RUDY FUNK'S RAINWORTH MW TAKE OVER LEAGUE TOP SPOT.

Rainworth MW sit on top of the NCEL Premier division following their mid-week 5-0 victory over Brodsworth.
Armthorpe Welfare heve crept into 2nd place following their 4-0 victory over Pickering Town. Bridlington Town are 3rd with Scarborough Athletic in 4th place, a Matthew Mathen hat trick helped Thackley defeat Hallam and move into 5th place behind Scarborough Athletic, but Athletic are 7 points in front of them.
Tommorow sees Rainworth, Armthorpe and Scarborough all with home games, all 3 should take maximum points from their respective matches, Scarborough Athletic host Liversedge, Rainworth entertain Nostell MW and Armthorpe host Thackley.
TOP OF THE TABLE FRIDAY 27/11/
RAINWORTH MW. 40 pts.
ARMTHORPE W. 38 points.
BRIDLINGTON T. 37 points.
SCARBOROUGH A. 37 points.
ALL ROADS LEAD TO QUEENSGATE TOMMOROW.
UP THE BORO..............

EXCELLENT DEFENSIVE SIGNING FOR 'BORO'

Dave Ricardo

Scarborough Athletic have signed 'midfield general' Dave Ricardo from landlords and league rivals Bridlington Town.
Dave is a solid and reliable experienced midfield/defender, he should bring some much needed stability to the Boro defence which has been lacking in my mind ever since Jamie Waltham's moment of madness which cost him so dearly.
Jamie was by far the best defender we have had, and I hope that he will one day be wearing the Boro shirt again, alongside Dave Ricardo would be good.
Dave has experience at Unibond level as well as with Hall Road Rangers and Winterton Rangers.
By far the best signing this season for the Boro.
As I am welcoming one player to the club, another is leaving, Joe Connor is returning to one of his former clubs 'Selby Town'.

AWAY DEFEAT FOR BORO AT SHIREBROOK.

SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S STRANGE RUN OF  FORM CONTINUED AT LOWLY SHIREBROOK TODAY, I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE THE GAME AND I AM PRETTY HAPPY ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW.
THE FACTS ARE THAT WE WERE LEADING 2-0 AT HALF TIME, YET MANAGED TO LOSE THE GAME BY 4 GOALS TO 3.
ON A POSITIVE NOTE WE ARE STILL EQUAL TOP, SANDWICHED BETWEEN BRIDLINGTON TOWN IN TOP SPOT AND RAINWORTH MW BELOW US IN 3RD.
BUT, BOTH BRID' AND RAINWORTH HAVE 3 GAMES IN HAND OVER US.
THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THE TEAM ARE STRUGGLING AT THE MOMENT, BUT THEY ALONG WITH THE MANAGMENT NEED 100% BACKING FROM THE FANS, BEGINNING WITH THE NEXT GAME WHICH IS AT HOME NEXT SATURDAY TO 5TH PLACED LIVERSEDGE.
BRIDLINGTON TOWN HAD A 4-0 VICTORY OVER HALLAM TODAY AND RAINWORTH ALSO HAD AN EXCELLENT 3-1 AWAY VICTORY TO MALTBY MAIN.
4TH PLACED ARMTHORPE WELFARE WERE IN 'VASE' ACTION TODAY WINNING 3-2 AFTER EXTRA TIME AT DAISY HILL.
TOP OF THE LEAGUE TONIGHT:
BRID' TOWN 15.37pts.
SCAR ATH 18.37pts.
RAINWORTH 15.37pts.
ARMTHORPE 15.35pts.

SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC & SCARBOROUGH LADIES IN OFFICIAL LINK-UP.

Scarborough Athletic FC and Scarborough Ladies FC are proud to announce a new partnership – created for the future of football in Scarborough.
The clubs have had a link over the past year, with Boro director James Hunter also a committee member with the Ladies' side, and Ladies' secretary Natalie Davies being co-opted onto the Boro board for the past 18 months.
In addition Athletic have sponsored the Ladies under-12s side for the past two seasons, helped provide the Ladies first team with playing kit, and the Ladies committee and players have attended many Athletic games and functions.
Each club will maintain its own identity and committee, with the partnership seeing a more formal arrangement between the two clubs – who will work together in the local community and put on joint events such as sporting dinners and fund-raising nights.
A partnership group comprising of three members of each club's committee will meet regularly and formulate plans for the benefit of both clubs, their supporters, sponsors and players.

The group will also put energy into working alongside Scarborough Borough Council in their aim to provide a sustainable facility for sport in the town
Scarborough Ladies chairman Andy Dunn said: “It's great that we can come together as two clubs within our local community, to focus on football and sport in Scarborough.
“Athletic have high ambitions for the future, and as the town's development club for ladies' football we are happy to be involved in their aims as the town's senior football team.”
Athletic's acting chairman Tony Brown said: “I am delighted to strengthen the link we have with Scarborough Ladies, by formalising this partnership.
“The success of both teams over the past couple of years bodes well for a long-lasting and beneficial partnership, both on and off the field.
“Having attended meetings with Andy Dunn, I see the drive and enthusiasm he has for his club, and that matches our own ambition at Scarborough Athletic.
“I look forward to a great working relationship between the clubs, and I can see a bright future for Scarborough football.”

GOALKEEPER DAVE BRAMLEY SIGNS FOR BARTON TOWN OB.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO WISH DAVE BRAMLEY ALL THE BEST AFTER READING THAT HE HAS SIGNED FOR BARTON TOWN.

John Clarke looks on as Dave Bramley signed for Boro.

DAVE WAS WITH US FROM OUR FORMATION AND PLAYED A BIG PART IN OUR OPENING SUCCESS AS A DIVISION 1 CLUB AND BEYOND.
HE HAD LEFT THE CLUB BEFORE AND RETURNED ONLY FOR EVENTS TO SEE HIM LEAVE ONCE MORE.

I LOOK FORWARD TO US COMING UP AGAINST BARTON IN THE FUTURE AND I HOPE THAT HE WILL RECEIVE A DECENT RECEPTION FROM THE BORO SUPPORTERS.

EX SCARBOROUGH FC DEFENDER SIGNS FOR 'BORO'.

Former Scarborough FC full back Michael Cook has become the latest addition to the Boro squad.
The defence has looked a bit suspect recently and the experience of Michael should bring some stability to the team.
Michael has captained his country 'Wales' at under 21 international level, has experience with both Everton and Hull City and has recently being playing for Frickley Athletic and previous to Frickley he was a player at Hall Road Rangers and North Ferriby respectively.
I think this is an excellent signing for the club and the player is expected to make his full Boro debut tommorow in the NCEL Premier game at Shirebrook Town.

LUCKLESS BORO LOSE IN OUT IN PRESIDENTS CUP QUARTER FINAL.

Hopes were high tonight for a big improvement on the last couple of Boro performances, a mid-week crowd of 225 which included much respected Rainworth manager Rudy Funk were present and with a more or less full strength team the prospects did look good for us to progress to the semi final stage of this competition.
However, it turned into another frustrating display, Boro had most of the ball, and they had so many chances on goal that I lost count, but they lacked the final touch.
Goalkeeper Aaran Reid spends so much time on his 18 yard line and beyond that we appear to have 11 outfield players and a goal just begging to be attacked, instead of shouting orders and telling his team mates what to do throughout the game he would be well advised to concentrate more on his own game, especially his distribution which once again was awful, he was out of position to let Dinnington score their winning goal, Ryan Blott should also share some of the blame for the goal as it was his mistake at the other end of the pitch which lead to the Town attack in the first place.
Joel Hartley tried hard all night and Mark Griffin also, it was Griffin's sheer determination that got him his equalising goal, a superb shot across the face of the goal which left the Town 'keeper helpless. But the joy of that goal was shortlived as the Town equaliser came only minutes later.
Rob Ellis had a solid game at right back, he was by far our best defender, and Paddy Miller had a good 2nd half, otherwise there is nothing positive to say about the performance, Hogg and Phillips seemed as if they did not want to be there, they were very lethargic.
TONIGHTS TEAM with marks out of 10.
