THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

CHAMPIONS WITH A GAME STILL TO PLAY.

BORO', OFFICIALLY CHAMPIONS

Here is the local paper match report from our final home game of the season, and we are now mathematically champions, our final league game of the NCEL season is away to West Yorkshire side Glasshoughton.
Next season we will be taking part in the Evo stick league North (Northern Premier league)

Boro clinched the Northern Counties East League Premier Division title this afternoon with a workmanlike victory over Retford United at a sunny but cool Queensgate.
There were two changes to the team that had beaten main rivals Brighouse Town the previous Saturday, Tom Adams replaced the suspended Peter Davidson and James Bennett came in for the unavailable Jimmy Beadle.
Both teams took time to settle in as they got used to a bobbly pitch and a gusty wind, the first half chance fell to Boro when Paddy Miller headed wide from a Bryan Hughes corner.
Boro broke the deadlock after seventeen minutes with a beautifully constructed team goal, Louis Horne released Ryan Blott down the left, his deep cross was headed back by Tony Hackworth to Bennett, his shot was turned away by Ayden Duffy but only into the path of Bryan Hughes who bundled the ball over the line.
Retford's first effort was a shot from Bobby Johnson that was easily held by Arran Reid, up the other end, a superb cross field pass by Adams released Miller but his shot was well over.
Retford almost levelled after thirty eight minutes, Reece Thompson brought a good save from Reid, some panic ensued before the ball was eventually cleared.
Just before the break Boro had two chances, Hackworth's shot on the turn was just over, then Duffy just managed to hold onto a Miller free kick.
Boro made a change at half time Robbie Hawkes replaced Horne who had picked up an injury, but it was Retford who came out full of intent and the dangerous Adam Scott sent in a lovely cross that was somehow turned over his own bar by Andy Milne.
Boro were still trying to attack but Blott's cross was way off the mark, then Bennett played in Hawkes but he delayed his shot and he eventually fired wide, the Hawkes again was off target after a shot from Blott was blocked.
Boro were now very much on edge as news filtered through that Brighouse were three up at Barton Town Old Boys, and with the players not wanting to make a mistake the play became really scrappy, but in football things can change in an instant, and within ten minutes it all fell into place for all manners of celebrating to break out.
With fans checking their phones after hearing Barton had pulled two goals back, Boro got the all important game winning second, a cross from the right was only cleared to Hackworth who drilled his shot into the bottom corner.
Four minutes from time pandemonium broke out, Boro were making a change bringing on Dave Brown for the injured Blott, as this was happening it emerged that Barton had equalised meaning that if both games stayed the same it was Boro's title.
This was confirmed minutes later and a celebratory pitch invasion ensued before skipper Hackworth was presented with the Championship Trophy.
