STRANGELY ENOUGH I FINISHED READING TOMMY'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY NAMED "ANFIELD IRON" ONLY LAST WEEK. IT IS THE BEST SPORTS RELATED BOOK I HAVE COME ACROSS, TRUE I AM A LIFELONG FAN OF LIVERPOOL AS WELL AS SCARBOROUGH FC-ATHLETIC BUT MY VIEW ON THIS BOOK IS COMPLETELY UNBIASED
TOMMY BRINGS ALL THE OLD ANFIELD MEMORIES FLOODING BACK AND THE STORIES OF BILL SHANKLY AND THE REST OF THE BOOTROOM STAFF JUST HAVE TO BE READ, OF COURSE SHANKS' WAS FAMOUS FOR WHAT HE DID AT ANFIELD, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER MANAGER LIKE HIM, PROBARBLY NEVER ANOTHER PERSON LIKE HIM,BUT THE WAY IN WHICH TOMMY SHARES HIS MEMORIES IS JUST BRILLIANT, THIS IS A FANTASTIC READ, ESPECIALLY FOR ANYONE WHO WATCHED THE GREAT FOOTBALL SIDES OF THE 60's THROUGH TO THE 70's.
A TIME THAT WAS SO FULL OF BRILLIANT CHARACTERS IN THE GAME, A TIME WHEN FOOTBALL KICKED OFF AT 3.00pm ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND ANYONE COULD TRAVEL TO A GAME, QUEUE UP AND USUALLY GET INTO THE GROUND. I STOOD ON THE KOP MANY TIMES AND WATCHED THE LIKES OF TOMMY, ROGER HUNT, PETER THOMPSON, CHRIS LAWLER, STEVE HEIGHWAY, RON YEATS, THE LIST IS ENDLESS.
PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS THESE DAYS ARE NOT FIT TO BE MENTIONED IN THE SAME BREATH AS THE PLAYERS WHO TURNED OUT BACK THEN FOR MANAGERS SUCH AS SHANKS, BOB PAISLEY, JOE FAGAN AND ROY EVANS.

THEY WERE PLAYING FOR THEIR CLUBS, THE FANS AND FOR EACH OTHER, NOT JUST FOR AN OBSCENE RIDICULOUS PAY CHEQUE AND THEN A MOVE ON TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER IN THE NEXT TRANSFER WINDOW. PRESENT DAY PLAYERS WITH THE ODD EXCEPTION ARE NOTHING MORE THAN "MERCENARIES"
TOMMY SMITH PLAYED 638 GAMES FOR LIVRERPOOL OVER A PERIOD OF 18 YEARS, HE WON 4 DIVISION ONE CHAMPIONSHIPS, 2 FA CUP WINNERS MEDALS, 2 EUROPEAN CUPS, 2 UEFA CUPS, 1 EUROPEAN SUPER CUP AND 5 CHARITY SHIELDS.
A TRUE FOOTBALL "LEGEND"......................
