THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

DIFFICULT START TO LEAGUE CAMPAIGN FOR 'BORO'

Scarborough Athletic have not had the best of starts to their new season, but they do seem to be back on track with 3 successive victories and could even be sharing top spot in the league table if they collect a further 3 points tommorow evening at Queensgate where Hallam will be the visitors.
After a successful pre season which saw us unbeaten in the 6 games played, we were narrowly defeated 2-1 in our opening league game away to Nostell MW, their winning goal coming at the very end of a game which saw Boro play the better football throughout.
7 days later came another shock defeat, it was our first ever game in the FA Cup and we were feeling confident about the home tie with Guisborough Town, however, this game will be remembered not just for the football but also the events which unfolded regarding Jamie Waltham and Scott Phillips, I will cover this in a seperate post, the game ended in a 2-1 defeat for Boro in front of 608 fans.
Another 7 days would pass before the next league match which was away to Lincoln Moorlands, Boro lost 3-1, their task was not helped after goalkeeper Dave Bramley was shown a red card in the 20th minute of the game which resulted in defender Dave Kemp taking over between the posts.
3 defeats in 3 matches sent the alarm bells ringing in some ears, but realistically we had been unlucky in all 3 matches, losing to a last gasp goal at Nostell, losing Jamie against Guisborough and losing our 'keeper at Lincoln after only 20 minutes.
Good players had also left the club and had to be replaced and it takes time for new players to gel, and losing such players as Jamie Waltham, Dave Thompson, Ryan Blott and more recently Gary Hepples it is obviously going to be hard to carry on without these players.
But manager Brian France and his staff have brought in some excellent replacements, we also have Dave Bramley back in goal, an excellent 'keeper who in my opinion should have been kept at the club all along, he was a big part of the clubs opening success from day one and I was surprised to see him replaced last season after missing one game due to attending a wedding, anyway it is good to see him back as our number one 'keeper. Other players to join the club include Danny Moore, a defender from North Ferriby, striker Billy Logan, Joe Conner from Pickering Town, Freddie Rawson, Duane Grace a centre back with experience with both the Leeds United youth and Reserve sides, also with Leeds Utd academy experience is Luke Craven, another newcomer who I was impressed with pre-season is defender Paddy Miller, so the team have been strengthened and they are beginning to get the results that we as fans are more used to, following the 3 defeats we went away to Dinnington Town and secured a 1-0 victory this was followed with a 2-0 home victory over Rudy Funk's Rainworth side and the home game to Dinnington Town followed, this produced a 5-1 victory which put us up to 4th position in the league table.
So, victory tommorow evening against Hallam would see us sharing the top spot with Armthorpe and our hosts Bridlington Town who are presently 1st and 2nd, both on 12 points.
UP THE BORO...........
