SCARBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB WERE FORCED INTO LIQUIDATION AT THE END OF THE 2006-07 SEASON. A NEW TRUST RUN CLUB HAS NOW BEEN FORMED "SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC" AND THIS BLOG WILL FOLLOW THEIR FORTUNES, BOTH ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD. UP THE BORO !!!
THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION
Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..
THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

FINALLY AFTER 39 DAY'S WE GET A GAME ON.
An excellent crowd of 367 braved a bitterly cold night and the majority had travelled the 20 or so miles across the North Yorkshire moors to attend the match..
The game kicked off and Boro could easily have taken the lead straight away as Scott Phillips narrowly missed with a chance after just 20 seconds of the kick off.
Boro looked the more likely to score in the opening stages, but on 18 minutes Town also had a great chance to open the scoring as Jimmy Beadle was left with the simplest of chances following a cross from Alex Gildea, but only he will know how he missed not only a great chance but the ball completly.
Town gradually came into the game and it was end to end football for awhile, and it was Town who eventually opened the scoring, a typical goal from Hackworth, a simple goal from all of 6 yards away from the goaline, but deserved goal or not Town were now in the lead.
There was a fair bit of needle in the game, too much arguing and late tackles, but Boro continued their search for the equaliser and they justly got their reward, and it was fitting that it was Ryan Blott who was the scorer, Ryan had spent a couple of unhappy months at Town earlier in the season before returning to Boro and he must have felt especially good as he watched his shot hit the back of the Town net bringing the game level.
Half time arrived with the scoreline 1-1.
The 2nd half got under way much the same as the 1st half had, both sides going all out for a goal and Town's Beadle hit a Boro post after seconds of the re-start.
Disaster struck for Boro in the 51st minute as they had Dave Ricardo sent off for allegedly 'stamping' on a Town player.
Shortly after Ricardo's dismissal Town had a couple of efforts go close, but soon after their missed chances Town were themselves reduced to 10 men as they too had a player red carded.
Substitutions followed from both teams, Town manager Harry Dunne brought on veteran Denny Ingram, obviously tightening up their defence and holding out for a penalty shoot out, this decision could have cost Town dearly as Boro substitute Craig Hogg had 2 near misses in the dying moments of the game, in the 90th minute his header flew just inches over the Town crossbar and deep into injury time he had a shot superbly saved by Dave Campbell in the Town goal.
So it was to be a penalty shoot-out after all.
Town thought they had one foot into the next round as they took a 2-0 lead after Boro missed their first 2 spot kicks, but up stepped Ryan Blott to score Boro's first penalty out of their 3 kicks, Town missed all their remainig 3 kicks and Boro scored their remaining 2 to end the game as 4-3 winners (3-2 on penalties)
A fantastic game played in front of an appreciative crowd, and a chance that we could be playing Scarborough Town in the quarter finals of the competition , depending of course on the outcome of their game against Northallerton Town which coincidentally will also be played at Whitby Towns ground, their school playing field deemed unsuitable I guess.
