THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

"AFC LIVERPOOL" QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

ABOUT AFC LIVERPOOL...................
What Is AFC Liverpool?
AFC Liverpool is a new independent football club owned by Liverpool fans and run by Liverpool fans where everyone can buy into it and get an equal vote. A genuine grassroots, not for profit football club. It is aimed especially at those Liverpool fans priced out of Premier League football. Same colours, same songs, same community of Reds. Our aim (if accepted) is to be playing in The Vodkat League Division Two in the 2008/09 season.

Is It Against Liverpool FC?
No. Quite the opposite. It will draw it's support base from Liverpool fans. It is expected that AFC Liverpool fans will still support Liverpool and (those who can afford to) will still go to Anfield to support the Reds. The club is meant as a grassroots addition to Liverpool FC, not to be a replacement for it. We see ourselves very much as part of the LFC family - LFC's little brother.

Why Bother?
Because thousands of Reds can't get to games anymore, either
because it is difficult to get tickets or because they can't afford them. The average age of a Premiership fan is 43, so we need a way to get kids hooked into experiencing football at an actual match, surrounded by a passionate LFC community.

Why not just pick an existing non league team to follow?
Being a football fan is about belonging and partisanship. If anyone has partisan feelings towards an existing non league side then you will already be in a position to follow them too. But most LFC fans have only ever supported LFC. Partisanship and a sense of belonging can not be manufactured. Our sense of belonging exists within our love for LFC. For us to have a grassroots team to genuinely support demands the creation of a new not for profit football club owned and run by Liverpool Fans - AFC Liverpool.

I want to help make this happen - what do I do?
To make this a reality we need finance. So we need you to join the clubBeyond that we could do with donations to the club. Even better would be a regular gift '£1 a week etc. Also, to register your interest you should join the mailing list too, in order to keep in touch with what's happening. Remember - this is not an attack on LFC or a rejection of LFC. It is an addition to the LFC we all love. It is an addition that the many thousands of reds priced out of Premiership football desperately need.
I hope this post ,which I copied from the clubs official website will be of interest to anyone who wants to know a little more about the formation of the new club.
