SCARBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB WERE FORCED INTO LIQUIDATION AT THE END OF THE 2006-07 SEASON. A NEW TRUST RUN CLUB HAS NOW BEEN FORMED "SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC" AND THIS BLOG WILL FOLLOW THEIR FORTUNES, BOTH ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD. UP THE BORO !!!
THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION
Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..
THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

OFFICIALS NOT UP TO THE JOB & DISGRACEFUL EMLEY TACTICS.
AS THIS POST WILL SHOW THE DAY WAS CERTAINLY FULL OF INCIDENT, BUT NOT ALL OF IT WAS ON THE FOOTBALL PITCH. I HAVE COPIED THE MATCH REPORT FROM THE OFFICIAL BORO WEBSITE AND AFTER READING MANY OF THE COMMENTS ON THE "SURFING SEADOG " FORUM IT IS PLAIN TO SEE THAT IT HAD BEEN A DISTURBING AFTERNOON, AND THANKS TO THE USUAL BEHAVIOUR OF CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS BORO COULD FIND THEMSELVES IN HOT WATER WITH THE NORTHERN COUNTIES EAST LEAGUE, WE COULD BE LOOKING AT MORE FINES OR EVEN THE DEDUCTION OF POINTS YET AGAIN.
TODAY, FANS HAVE GONE ONTO THE PITCH, THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AND AS DRASTIC AS THIS MAY SOUND, ANYONE TRESPASSING ONTO THE PITCH SHOULD RECEIVE A LIFETIME BAN IN MY OPINION. I ALSO THINK THAT THE MATCHES SHOULD BE PROPERLY STEWARDED, BY TRAINED PAID STEWARDS, I THINK THE VOLUNTEERS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB AND I UNDERSTAND THAT THE CLUB DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO BE PAYING OUT UNNECESSARILY, BUT IT IS OBVIOUS THAT CERTAIN WATCHERS OF THE BORO "NOTE THAT I DO NOT CALL THEM SUPPORTERS OR FANS", AS THEY ARE NEITHER, IF THEY WERE THEN THEY WOULD NOT RISK PUTTING THE CLUB INTO ANOTHER POSSIBLE SITUATION WHICH COULD PROVE DISASTROUS, THE CLUB ARE RISKING GETTING THEMSELVES AN UNDESERVED VERY POOR REPUTATION.
I THINK THE TIME HAS COME FOR CHANGE.
I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL THE TROUBLE TODAY WAS ONCE AGAIN DOWN TO INEPT OFFICIALS WHO JUST COULD NOT CONTROL THE FIXTURE, THE EMLEY GOALKEEPER SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNED ABOUT HIS BEHAVIOUR VERY EARLY ON, HE WAS CONSTANTLY SWEARING AT THE BORO FANS AND I UNDERSTAND THAT HE EVEN DROPPED HIS SHORTS AT THE FANS ALSO, THIS BEHAVIOUR SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED AND WHY DID'NT THE REFEREE OR LINESMEN DO SOMETHING EARLY ON ? HE REMAINED ON THE PITCH UNTIL ALMOST THE END OF THE GAME, ANYWAY, WHATEVER HAPPENED DOES NOT EXCUSE HOME SUPPORTERS GETTING INVOLVED, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE POLICE HAVE BECOME INVOLVED WITH TODAYS EVENTS, SO NO DOUBT WE WILL BE SEEING A POLICE PRESENCE AT FUTURE GAMES-TOTALLY WRONG, AS PROPERLY TRAINED STEWARDS CAN HANDLE MOST SITUATIONS LIKELY TO ARISE.
THIS NEEDS STOPPING NOW, AND THE CLUB NEED TO BE STRONG, MAKE SOME DECISIONS AND CARRY THOSE DECISIONS OUT.
LETS HOPE THAT TODAYS ACTIONS CAN BE PUT BEHIND US AND WE CAN GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS AND ENTERTAINING FOOTBALL STARTING AT DINNINGTON ON SATURDAY, I DO THINK THAT THE LEAGUE MAY MONITOR THE BEHAVIOUR OF BORO FANS FOR THE REST OF THIS SEASON.
HERE IS THE MATCH REPORT:
An unwell Ryan Blott was added to the list of absentees of Carl Wood and Gary Hepples, leaving Brian France with less to think about when deciding his strike force. Liam Widdowson was called in to complete the defensive line; the midfield was left unchanged with the absent Blott making way for Craig Hogg who made his first start in 6 games. Craig Evans was welcomed back to the bench after a long spell out with a foot injury. With what would prove to be indicative of the events ahead, Dave Thompson was booked only 2 seconds into the game after a sliding tackle straight from the kick off.
Ryan Morton had his full array of tricks on display early on cleverly sending Hogg away needing the Emley defense to clear his cross, the resulting corner saw a Dave Kemp shot go wide. Boro kept up the early pressure with a high ball into the box ending in a melee falling to Thompson whose stretched leg got a shot away but was deflected wide. The referee who was already keen with the cards judged that Graham Botham pushed an Emley player off the ball and showed a yellow card. Boro's good early start paid off with a goal, a clever ball from Scott Phillips put Hogg through who calmly rounded the keeper and floated the ball home with his left foot after 16 minutes. Mark Griffin continuing his good form was making an impact down the right wing; his cross found Morton at the back post who got tangled with Antony Leech, the ref again cautioning both players, bringing the total yellow cards to 4.
Emley were not without their chances some sloppy Boro play offered Mark Townsend a chance to get a shot away from a good position, fortunately for the home side not hit with enough power to trouble Dave Bramley. Botham had an ideal chance to double the lead when Richard Medcalf laid off a free kick to his path around the penalty spot; he snatched at his shot which sailed over. Medcalf was again deep behind Emley lines creating chances with excellent close control; his cross allowed Phillips to volley but was again blocked on the line. Boro far from firing on all cylinders kept the lead at half time which arguably they deserved despite not displaying any real flair.
Emley made a perfect start to the second half taking only moments to get back onto level terms; Steve Kenworthy slotted home taking advantage of some confusion at the back as Jamie Waltham cleared the ball into the back of Thompson. The away side only held on to their lead for a matter of minutes, the promising Morton delivered a killer corner met clinically by the head of Phillips to restore the lead. Boro were by no means completely dominant throughout, Widdowson failed to clear a looping ball allowing Sean Hazleden to strike from close range Bramley pulled off an amazing save to maintain the lead. Boro had a perfect chance to put a stranglehold on the game with Morton beating his full back to cross dangerously across the face of goal; Medcalf only managed a glancing header under strong supervision from the Emley defence.
The tables turned again as the scores were levelled for the second time in the game, the offside trap was broken from a free kick, a knock down gifted Kenworthy all the time he wanted on the edge of the six yard box and was gratefully converted. As the game progressed it would be more about controversy rather than football on the pitch. After some consultation with the linesman the referee issued Waltham a straight red for abusive language. France replaced Morton with Antony Bowsley on 75 minutes, the youngster still lacking match fitness to last the full 90 minutes and a more experienced head may benefit with the heat rising. The cards were out again as Medcalf clashed with Townsend, neither escaped without a booking.
Kenworthy was in on goal with minutes to play, Botham chasing back took one for the team fouling the Emley striker just outside the area in hopes to save a point for his team, no-one was complaining when he received a straight red for his professional foul. After 89 minutes, keeper Green's behaviour was belatedly brought to the attention of the referee who gave out his 3rd straight red of the game. As Green left the field there was a disturbance in the tunnel between both Scarborough and Emley players, the referee brought a timely end to the game before matters escalated.
A game that was ugly for most parts was more a battle than anything else, Boro never got into their passing game and only really deserved a point. Referee Simon Hunter used more cards than Bruce Forsythe in an attempt to keep a lid on a game. Points dropped in a game that on paper Boro would have been expected to win, the already difficult task of promotion just got that little bit tougher.
