SCARBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB WERE FORCED INTO LIQUIDATION AT THE END OF THE 2006-07 SEASON. A NEW TRUST RUN CLUB HAS NOW BEEN FORMED "SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC" AND THIS BLOG WILL FOLLOW THEIR FORTUNES, BOTH ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD. UP THE BORO !!!
THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION
Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..
THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

BOTTOM CLUB PROVE NOT TO BE THE WALKOVER SOME FANS WERE EXPECTING
Once again manager Brian France used his good sized squad, and made two changes. Mark Griffin and Graham Botham came back into the side replacing Tom Reid and Dave Thompson respectively, who both turned out for the reserves earlier in the day to improve match fitness, Botham once again took over as Captain from Dave Kemp.
Before the game many fans were talking of record scores of double figures and more, but were in a state of shock after only three minutes when a cross from the left found an unmarked Kevin Duckworth, who easily beat Arran Reid from eight yards. That goal shocked Boro into a little bit of forward play, and they went looking for an equaliser with Griffin prominent down the right wing, but despite their efforts they were kept at bay.
Fortunately, the leveller came after 19 minutes, from the penalty spot. It was awarded after Ryan Blott was upended in the area, and he duly dispatched his 28th League goal of the season, despite Welfare’s keeper Luke Beedle getting a hand to it.
Despite the swirling wind, the game settled down and became a bit of a midfield battle, then just before half time there was another shock to the system for the 500 plus Boro fans, when Welfare took the lead again.
Once again it was Duckworth who was the scorer, lashing in a shot after Boro’s defence failed to clear a free kick.
Shortly after the whistle went for half time with the players surely expecting a verbal lashing from the Manager for a somewhat lax display, in fact to put it into context, it was the first time this season that Welfare had led a match at the break.
If there was a rollicking at half time, it certainly worked, with Boro coming out with all guns blazing.
Scott Phillips, a second half substitution for the injured Gary Hepples, was involved in the action from the kick off, bringing a cool head to midfield, and it was no surprise when the 2nd equaliser came after 47 minutes, once again it was Blott who calmly finished after a cross from the right, albeit via a couple of deflections.
Now it was all Boro, with Ellis and Phillips both going close, and after 70 minutes Boro took the lead for the first time, with an absolute screamer from 25 yards by Phillips, which gave the keeper no chance.
Eight minutes later it was 4-2, with Blott completing his hat trick, after a smart dribble and left-foot finish.
To give Welfare credit they never gave up and pulled it back to 4-3 after 85 minutes, this time they were awarded a penalty after a somewhat needless foul by Waltham. Duckworth converted to complete his hat trick.
Finally the fans nerves were calmed a minute from the end when Griffin tapped in from two yards after a great dribble and cross by Blott.
