SCARBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB ACTUALLY STARTED OUT AS "SCARBOROUGH CRICKETERS F.C" IN 1879 AND PLAYED AT THE NORTH MARINE ROAD CRICKET GROUND.
IN 1898 THE TEAM CHANGED IT'S NAME TO "SCARBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB" AND MOVED TO THEIR NEW HOME AT THE ATHLETIC GROUND ON SEAMER ROAD, THIS LATER BECAME KNOWN AS THE McAIN STADIUM AND THE TEAM PLAYED THERE UNTIL THEIR LIQUIDATION IN 2007.
BRIEFLY, THE EARLY YEARS SAW THE TEAM PLAY IN THE NORTHERN LEAGUES, THEN THE YORKSHIRE COMBINATION UNTIL JOINING THE MIDLAND LEAGUE IN 1927, 2 YEARS LATER THEY WERE CROWNED CHAMPIONS. IN 1962 THEY JOINED THE NEWLY FORMED NORTH EASTERN LEAGUE AND AGAIN BECAME CHAMPIONS.1968 SAW THE CREATION OF THE NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE IN WHICH WE ENJOYED MUCH SUCCESS AND AS WE APPROACH THE 1970's SCARBOROUGH F.C WERE TO VISIT WEMBLEY STADIUM ON 4 OCCASIONS IN F.A TROPHY FINALS AND THEY WERE WINNERS ON 3 OF THOSE VISITS. I WILL DO A FUTURE POST JUST ABOUT THOSE 4 FINALS AND I HAVE SOME INTERESTING PICTURES TO ACCOMPANY THE WRITINGS.THE 1980's BROUGHT FOOTBALL LEAGUE ACTION TO SEAMER ROAD AS SCARBOROUGH BECAME THE FIRST TEAM IN HISTORY TO WIN AUTOMATIC PROMOTION TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, AND MANY FAMOUS F.A AND LEAGUE CUP ENCOUNTERS WITH SOME BIG NAME CLUBS FOLLOWED, AGAIN, I LOOK FORWARD TO RELIVING SOME GREAT MEMORIES OF THESE EPIC MATCHES.
