SCARBOROUGH F.C HAD BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1879 AND WERE ONE OF THE OLDEST SURVIVING CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY AND HAD A GREAT TRADITION.
HOWEVER, THE PAST FEW SEASONS HAD SEEN THE CLUB EXPERIENCE MANY OFF THE FIELD PROBLEMS, MAINLY FINANCIAL, ANYWAY THE SITUATION DETERIORATED AND THANKS MAINLY TO THE NEGATIVITY OF THE COUNCIL THE CLUB SIMPLY RAN OUT OF TIME AND WERE LIQUIDATED IN THE HIGH COURT. NO THOUGHTS WERE SPARED FOR THE LOYAL BAND OF SUPPORTERS OR THE FACT THAT THE TOWN WOULD BE WITHOUT A RECOGNISED FOOTBALL TEAM. I WILL GO INTO MORE DETAIL IN A FUTURE POST, BUT BRIEFLY THE CLUB HAD A DEAL WORKED OUT WHICH WOULD HAVE SEEN ALL THEIR DEBTS TAKEN CARE OF AND A NEW STADIUM CONSTRUCTED OUT OF TOWN, AND THEY HAD BEEN ACCEPTED TO PLAY IN THE UNIBOND LEAGUE. ALL THIS MET WITH THE FULL APPROVAL OF THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, BUT NOT WITH THOSE WONDERFUL PEOPLE AT THE COUNCIL. THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN THE TIME TO NOTIFY THE LOCAL TAX PAYERS OF THE SUBMITTED PLANS. ABSOLOUTE RUBBISH. THE CLUBS FUTURE COULD HAVE BEEN GUARANTEED IN THAT COUNCIL MEETING, THOSE INVOLVED SHOULD BE ASHAMED AND EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM SHOULD RESIGN AS THEY ARE NOT FIT TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE OF THE TOWN.
