THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

BORO GIFT WHITBY 2 GOALS IN ENTERTAINING FRIENDLY

Boro are still unbeaten in their pre-season build up. Last night's game at the Turnbull was an entertaining 2-2 draw but Boro should have come away the easy victors.
A decent sized crowd was present at the Turnbull Ground.

Sadly missed in defence was Jamie Waltham and Reid in the Boro goal had a nightmare game gifting Whitby both their goals.

Joel Hartley had an excellent game and scored a wonderful goal.

The half time score was 0-0, but Boro had the most chances and could easily have been 2 or 3 goals up at this stage of the game.

A half-time view as everyone headed for the refreshment bar.

The 2nd half started badly as Whitby took an early lead following a mix up in the Boro defence.
Paul Routledge made the scores level at 1-1 and with about 15 minutes remaining Joel Hartley, who had an excellent game for the Boro scored a brilliant goal, Callum Reid who had come on as a sub' played an inch perfect ball for Joel to run onto and he scored with style.

Just 1 of the numerous Boro attacks on the Whitby goal.

Unfortunatly in the 89th minute of the game Whitby were handed a simple equaliser after Reid in the Boro goal misjudged a long shot and watched helplessly as the ball first struck the post, then himself before a Whitby player finally slotted the ball home into an empty goal for their last gasp equaliser.
Overall it was another great team effort, full of commitment as usual, great performances from Joel Hartley and Gary Hepples in particular, and we must remember that Whitby are 2 steps above us in the pyramid.
There was another great turnout of Boro fans, I would estimate that around 250 of the 350 crowd were travelling supporters, looking forward to the trip to Goole Town on Saturday for the next friendly, the Victoria Pleasure Ground was the first ever ground that I visited as a travelling fan of Scarborough FC way back in 1968, 2 Wallace Arnold coaches carried the fans from their Colombus Ravine depot, happy days.

UP THE BORO..........................
