THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

10 MAN BORO PROGRESS TO 1st Rnd PROPER OF VASE

Scarborough Athletic's terrific away victory over Birtley Town saw them reach the 1st Round proper of the FA Vase which culminates in the final being played at Wembley Stadium in May.
"Boro" had a wonderful 3-2 victory in spite of playing out the final 25 minutes of the game with only 10 men and coming back from a 2-1 half time defecit.
Dave Thompson had opened the scoring for "Boro" as early as the 8th minute, heading home from a Rob Hoyle cross, it looked as though a high score was on the card's for the men in red, but the next goal which arrived 16 minutes later was not to be a "Boro" goal but an equaliser for Birtley, Boro defended a free kick and a deflection off Dave Thompson fell nicely for Birtley's 'Thirkell' to follow up and slot home past Aaron Reid who was making his debut in the Boro goal.
10 minutes later that man 'Thirkell' was on target again as Birtley took a 2-1 lead, the Boro defence failed to defend a short corner and allowed Thirkell to sneak an opportunist goal.
Boro were relieved to hear the half time whistle, but they must have been dreading having to face manager Brian France in the changing room.
It had been a disappointing first half performance, but once again the team came out revitalised and 2 changes were made by Brian, Dave Kemp and Dave Thompson were replaced by Gary Hepples who was making a welcome return to the club and Rob Ellis, and after only 2 minutes of play Rob Ellis scored the equaliser for Boro and on the hour mark penalty king Scott Phillips scored what turned out to be the winning goal for Boro.
A Graham Botham corner found Scott at the far post and he managed to get the ball over the line for his first and Boro's third goal of the day, the ground erupted to the delight of the travelling fans who clearly had Wembley on their minds.
There was disbelief just a couple of minutes later as another very poor referee made another very poor decision against Boro, he unjustly sent off Jamie Waltham, a decision which could have cost us dearly but actually made little difference to the belief the team have in themselves, Boro actually looked the more likely to score as the game progressed.
We are now in the 1st Round proper and face another long journey up the A1 as we are yet again drawn away from home, we will travel to County Durham on Saturday October4th to face "Esh Winning" who play their football in the Northern League Division 2.
