THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

PALMER HAT TRICK SEES BRIDLINGTON TOWN PROGRESS IN F.A CUP

Todays plan was to watch Scarborough Athletic's Reserve team in action at Hutton Cranswick, but at 2.00 pm while preparing to set off to the game I realised that the Reserve team actually kick off their games at 2.00 pm, so I decided to visit our 'landlords' Bridlington Town, and watch their FA Cup prelimary round tie against Guisborough Town as the trip to their ground only takes me 20 minutes.

It seemed strange entering the Queensgate ground and not seeing the place attended by Athletic fans, although the Bridlington Town players new kit did look very much like our own new kit.

Guisborough play their league football in the Northern League Division 2 and there was a big difference in the standard of play between the two teams, Brid' were far superior, they passed the ball with growing confidence, they did take chances in their own penalty area and were lucky on occasion that they were not punished for their over confidence.

It only took Brid' 8 minutes to take the lead, although the goal when it came was a scrambled one, Brid' continued to dominate and should have been 3 or 4 goals to the good when Guisborough were gifted an equaliser in the 38th minute, a mix up in the Brid' defence left Guisborough's Hawes with the simplest goal he will ever score, so half time arrived with the score at 1-1.

The second half started in much the same way as the first, Bridlington Town dominating and passing the ball around with confidence, Guisborough were beginning to lose their cool, they had a number of players booked, gave away 2 penalties and should have had one player sent off, late tackles and blatant pushes both on and off the ball became the way that Guisborough played out this game. Town took the lead in the 49th minute, Craig Palmer was again the man on target, and as Brid' totally dominated this game it was Craig Palmer who grabbed the 3rd goal and his hat trick 62nd minute , the frustration of the Guisborough players really told now, the referee gave lectures and their number 8 was taken off and substituted as he would surely have found himself receiving a red card had he stayed on the field.

A great start to the season for Bridlington Town, 2 league victories and this FA Cup victory and Craig Palmer has scored a total of 8 goals, including two hat tricks in these opening three games, it was good to see a reasonable attendance at the fixture also.
