THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

"BORO" GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE.............

Boro are sitting pretty on top of the Northern Counties east League Division One tonight after a dazzling 4-0 victory over a strong AFC Emley team.
Emley did in fact start the stronger and Dave Bramley in the Boro goal had to be alert during a tense opening period, but Boro began to take control and skipper Graham Botham scored the first goal for Boro on 23 minutes, he fired a free kick directly into goal without the Emley 'keeper even moving, the Emley wall was in the wrong place and the 'keepeer seemed unsighted and just watched helplessly as the ball flew into the net, but it was a superbly taken free kick from the quick thinking Botham.
Now it was all Boro, the back line was solid, nothing was getting past Dave Hartas, Jamie Waltham or Dave Kemp, the midfield were excellent and Hogg, Griffin, Phillips and Thompson all came close themselves to adding to the scoreline, but it was to be defender Jamie Waltham who eventually got goal number two, another Graham Botham free kick was strongly challenged for by Waltham at the far post and his powerful header left Carl Auckland in the Emley goal helpless, the crowd were now sensing another hat full of goals from a Boro side growing in confidence the longer the game went on.
Just before the break Graham Botham scored his second goal, another free kick which left the 'keeper helpless once again.
Boro were playing the best football that I have them seen play all season, they were excellent in all departments, I think todays line-up was about the strongest 11 to date, but the second half got under way and Emley did at least come out and try to get something out of the game, but for all their efforts Boro were just too strong for them today, it did take until the last minute of the game for Boro to score again and it was 'man of the match' Graham Botham who scored from close range after an unselfish lay-off from Ryan Blott from only 4 yards off the Emley goal line which enabled Botham to celebrate a stunning hat trick.
It was another disappointing display from yet another inept referee, Emley got away with too many fouls, Boro were denied 2 blatant penalties, handballs were missed, incorrect offside decisions were made, and the Emley players were taking dives throughout the game-practically all went unpunished, neither of the referee's assistants were of any help to him as they too were pretty much clueless, but Boro are finally at the top of the league and hopefully they will stay there for most of the season, if they can maintain the quality of football on display today then I cannot think of any other team who can cause us any problems.
Another excellent crowd also, 450 and I did not see any Emley fans in the ground, the next league game is Saturday when near neighbours Tadcaster Albion will be visitors to Queensgate, unfortunately I will be 335 miles away on holiday in Combe Martin, North Devon.
