THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

2-1 DEFEAT IN MEMORIAL CUP.

I HAVE JUST GOT HOME FROM THE "BRIDLINGTON TOWN AFC MEMORIAL CUP TIE"
A PERFECT DAY FOR FOOTBALL WITH THE SUN SHINING, THE CROWD IN THEIR SHIRT SLEEVES AND TWO FAIRLY EVENLY MATCHED SIDES, BORO AND BRIDLINGTON TOWN.
THE FIRST HALF WAS FAIRLY EVEN BUT IT WAS BORO WHO LEFT THE FIELD WITH A 1-0 LEAD, IT WAS A VERY WELL TAKEN GOAL BY RICHARD MEDCALF FOLLOWING AN UNSELFISH SHORT PASS FROM RYAN MORTON SOME 12 YARDS FROM GOAL.
TO BE FAIR IT WAS BORO WHO WERE TRYING TO PLAY THE BETTER FOOTBALL AND THEY DID JUST ABOUT DESERVE THEIR SLIGHT LEAD.
THE SECOND HALF KICKED OFF AND IT WAS BORO WHO ALWAYS LOOKED THE MORE LIKELY TO FIND THE BACK OF THE NET AGAIN, BUT THE LONGER THE GAME WENT ON, IT SEEMED THAT BORO WERE BECOMING MORE FRUSTRATED AND TOWN DID MANAGE TO EXPLOIT THE BORO DEFENCE WHO WERE NOT AS COMMANDING AS THEY CAN BE.
TOWN GRABBED AN EQUALISER, BUT EVEN THEN YOU WOULD HAVE PUT YOUR MONEY ON BORO REGAINING THEIR LEAD, BUT DISASTER STRUCK TOWARD THE END OF THE GAME AS TOWN ADDED A SECOND GOAL WHICH PROVED TO BE DECISIVE.
SO THE FIRST WINNERS OF THE MEMORIAL TROPHY ARE BRIDLINGTON TOWN, THIS IS TO BE AN ANNUAL EVENT BETWEEN THE TWO SIDES SO NEXT YEAR WE WILL BE LOOKING TO EVEN THINGS UP. IT WAS AN ENJOYABLE MATCH, DAVE BRAMLEY IN THE BORO GOAL MUST WONDER HOW HE ENDED UP ON THE LOSING SIDE AS HE HAD AN EXCELLENT GAME, JAMIE WALTHAM WAS VERY STRONG AGAIN IN THE CENTRE OF DEFENCE, RYAN DAVIES ALSO IMPRESSED, RYAN MORTON HAD SOME GREAT RUNS, CROSSED SOME EXCELLENT BALLS INTO THE TOWN DANGER AREAS AND HIS OVERALL DISTRIBUTION WAS VERY GOOD, DAVE THOMPSON WAS THE STAR MAN FOR ME TODAY, NEVER GIVING UP ON A TACKLE AND LIKE RYAN PASSING THE BALL INTELLIGENTLY.
SO, IN SPITE OF LOSING THE GAME, IT WAS A GOOD PERFORMANCE, AND WHAT WE MUST REMEMBER IS THAT ONCE AGAIN WE WERE UP AGAINST A TEAM FROM A HIGHER LEVEL OF FOOTBALL THAN OURSELVES.
TUESDAY NIGHT TAKES US TO PICKERING TOWN, A SIDE OF SIMILAR QUALITY TO BRID' TOWN, IT SHOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE OUR TEAM SELECTION, BEARING IN MIND THAT THE RESERVES ALSO HAD A GAME TODAY.
UP THE BORO.............
