THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

TERRIFIC 3-0 AWAY VICTORY FOR THE BORO.

Yet another brilliant away performance by Scarborough Athletic F.C.
Todays opponents were Barnsley based Worsbrough Bridge.
Boro had new signing 'Ryan Morton' in the starting line-up just one day after the youngster signed for the club. Ryan had a really impressive debut and I am certain that he is going to prove an excellent addition to the squad.
Boro began in their usual attacking manner and although Worsbrough had their chances it really was only a matter of time before Boro took the lead.
On a difficult sloping pitch it was Boro who were kicking "up the slope" in the first half, but on 35 minutes following a cross from the young Ryan Morton, that other Ryan-(Blott) was on hand to head the ball home and give Boro a deserved 1-0 lead.
Within a matter of minutes Boro had doubled their lead.
Following a foul on Ryan Blott on the edge of the Worsbrough area, Jamie Waltham took the resulting free kick and following a rebound off the post Scott Phillips was in the right place at the right time to put the ball in the net from close range, It was good to see Scott back on the scoresheet and I am sure his goal will do his confidence a power of good.
So, half time came with the score 2-0 to Boro.
As Boro would have the advantage of the slope in the second half, as well as a 2-0 lead and totally dominating the play then things were looking very good and the three points should be safely in the bag.
Boro had the ball in the Worsbrough net twice but both times the goal was disallowed by the referee. Jamie Waltham was particularly unlucky as he was adjudged to have commited a foul before he scored what I thought to be a legitimate goal.
Ryan Morton was taken off after he had received a slight knock and was replaced by Anthony Bowsley, Brian France probarbly had Tuesday nights visit to Tadcaster in mind as Blott and Wood were also replaced by Hogg and Widdowson respectively.
It was in fact Craig Hogg who eventually got Boro's third goal in the 79th minute of the game, a cross from Griffin was met by Hogg but the Worsbrough goalkeeper made a decent save but Hogg remained calm and headed home the rebound off the keeper.
So a 3-0 victory and if Boro had been given the penalty which they should have and if Waltham's goal had been allowed to stand as it should have then that would have shown a more realistic scoreline as Boro had dominated the game, but 3-0 away from home can't be bad can it.
I would guess that there were arond 180 Boro fans in the ground and again they all went home in happy mood as another excellent all-round performance by a very good Boro team had been witnessed, manager Brian France has and continues to work miracles for his new club, If there was a manager of the month award in this league then I don't think anyone could argue that Brian would win it hands down.
I had not seen most of the present players prior to their joining Boro, but I do wonder how much they have improved their game under the leadership of Brian and his team, I am certain that Ryan Morton will prove to be a great signing for Boro, defenders will not look forward to playing against the youngster.
There are great times ahead for Scarborough Athletic Football Club........................
