THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

SUPER BORO END GEDLING'S UNBEATEN RUN.

TODAY SAW "SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC" FACE ONE OF THEIR LONGEST TRIPS OF THEIR LEAGUE SEASON, TO GEDLING TOWN FC.
THE TRIP TO NOTTINGHAMSHIRE WOULD BE SLIGHTLY LONGER FOR ME AS I WAS TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER IN ROTHWELL BEFORE HEADING DOWN THE M1.
WE LEFT ROTHWELL AT 12.30 WHICH SHOULD HAVE LEFT US WITH AMPLE TIME TO REACH THE GROUND FOR THE 3.00pm KICK OFF, BUT ONCE AGAIN I FOUND OUT JUST HOW DIFFICULT IT CAN BE TO FIND SOME OF THESE OUT OF THE WAY GROUNDS- 'OR IS IT JUST ME' ?.
ANYWAY, AFTER GETTING ONTO THE RING ROAD AT 1.45pm IT WAS STILL NOT UNTIL 2.45pm THAT WE ACTUALLY SET FOOT IN THE GROUND.
THE GROUND ITSELF WAS IN A REALLY SUPERB SETTING, NEXT TO THE RIVER AND THE PUB.
WE PAID OUR 'HIKED-UP' ADMISSION OF £5, THEY NORMALLY CHARGE £3.50 AND LET KIDS IN FOR FREE, BUT THEY DECIDED TO CON THE TRAVELLING SUPPORT OF THE BORO BY UPPING THEIR PRICES, I HAVE IN FACT E-MAILED THE NCEL TO QUESTION THEIR RIGHT TO DO THIS.
THE PROGRAMME COST £1.50, THIS TOO WAS OBVIOUSLY A LATE ATTEMPT TO FLEECE US FANS, THE PROG' ITSELF HAD NO PRICE ON THE COVER, THEY DID'NT EVEN HAVE A WELCOME PAGE FOR THE VISITORS,THEN I ENTERED THE SNACK BAR AND THE TEA WAS THE WORST I HAVE EVER TASTED, SO I DID NOT FANCY CHANCING THE FOOD.
THANKFULLY THE GAME WAS EXCELLENT, AT LEAST FROM THE BORO'S POINT OF VIEW.
BORO PLAYED WITH DETERMINATION RIGHT FROM THE START, THEY SHOWED NO FEAR AT PLAYING THE AS-YET UNDEFEATED LEAGUE LEADERS.
I WAS AMAZED AT WHAT AN ORDINARY OUTFIT THE TOWN TEAM WAS, AND FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE UNBEATEN, THEY ARE A BIG AND PHYSICAL SIDE, THEY USED THEIR STRENGTH WELL BUT NOT A LOT OF FOOTBALLING SKILLS WERE ON SHOW, JUST AGGRESSION.
IF THE GAME HAD BEEN CONTROLLED BY A STRONGER REFEREE THEN TOWN WOULD SURELY HAVE FINISHED THE GAME WITH 9 OR 10 MEN, DUE TO THE REPETITIVE ARGUING AND FOULING, THEY EVEN ARGUED BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND ON MORE THAN OCCASION GOT INTO VERBALS WITH SOME OF THE BORO FANS.
AT ONE POINT AFTER BEING BLOWN UP FOR YET ANOTHER FOUL THEIR BIG NUMBER 5 DECIDED TO SLAM THE BALL INTO THE FENCE WHERE A CROWD OF BORO FANS WERE STANDING, IF THE BALL HAD HIT ONE OF THEM, THEN THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED, THE REFEREE DID NOTHING AND HIS ASSISTANT WHO WAS STOOD ABOUT 2 METRES FROM THE INCIDENT SIMPLY WALKED AWAY.
THE DEADLOCK IN THIS REALLY ENTERTAINING MATCH WAS FINALLY BROKEN ON THE HALF HOUR MARK, IT WAS THAT MAN RYAN PHILLIPS AGAIN WHO FOUND THE BACK OF THE NET FOR THE BORO, IT WAS CRAIG HOGG WHO WAS SHOVED OFF THE BALL AS HE WAS ON THE ATTACK, AS THE BALL ROLLED LOOSE THE TOWN PLAYERS SEEMED TO WAIT FOR EACH OTHER TO DEAL WITH THE BALL, BUT THE EVER ALERT PHILLIPS WAS ON HAND TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE SITUATION AND NEATLY SLOT THE BALL HOME, BORO DID DESERVE THEIR LEAD AS THEY WERE CLEARLY THE BETTER TEAM, ALTHOUGH "DODGY" WAS UP TO HIS USUAL TRICKS IN THE BORO GOAL, HE WAS LOOKING UNSURE OF HIMSELF AND HIS POSITIONAL PLAY WAS, WELL- LET'S JUST SAY "DODGY" .
HALF TIME ARRIVED AND THE DRESSING DOWN THE TOWN PLAYERS WERE GETTING IN THEIR CHANGING ROOM WAS MUSIC TO THE LISTENING BORO FANS EARS.
THE SECOND HALF WAS EVERY BIT AS HECTIC AS THE FIRST, AGAIN BORO LOOKED THE MORE DANGEROUS, BUT TOWN DID HAVE SOME CHANCES TO EQUALISE BUT DAVE BRAMLEY TURNED IN AN INSPIRED SECOND HALF PERFORMANCE, HE MADE SOME EXCELLENT SAVES AND KEPT THE BORO IN FRONT ON AT LEAST FOUR OCCASIONS, HE LOOKED A DIFFERENT PERSON TO THE ONE BETWEEN THE POSTS DURING THE FIRST 45 MINUTES.
IT DID TAKE BORO UNTIL THE 89th MINUTE TO SCORE THEIR SECOND GOAL AND IT WAS A BEAUTY WHEN IT FINALLY CAME, WELL WORTH THE WAIT, MARK GRIFFIN RAN AT THE TOWN DEFENCE, HE JUST NEVER GAVE UP AND SENT A PERFECTLY PLACED BALL FOR THAT MAN PHILLIPS TO RUN ONTO AND HAMMER THE BALL HOME FOR HIS SECOND GOAL OF THE GAME.
TOWN GRABBED A CONSOLATION GOAL SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, BUT BORO WERE MAGNIFICENT AND HELD OUT TO THE FINAL WHISTLE.
TOWN WERE DEJECTED AT THIS, THEIR FIRST LEAGUE DEFEAT, THE BORO PLAYERS CELEBRATED WITH THEIR FANS, AND THE PLAYERS THOROUGHLY DESERVED THE ADOLATION WHICH THEY WERE RECEIVING.
THE TEAM SEEM TO IMPROVE WITH EVERY MATCH THEY PLAY, THEY SHOW REAL DETERMINATION IN EVERY CHALLENGE MADE, AND I FEEL SURE THAT EVEN WITH THE POINTS DEDUCTION THEY WILL BE RIGHT UP THERE AT THE END OF THE SEASON.
THIS UNBEATEN TEAM WERE OUTPLAYED BY BORO, AND AT THE END OF THE GAME I SPOKE TO TWO OF TOWN'S OLDER SUPPORTERS AND THEY SAID THAT
"IT IS A LONG TIME SINCE A TEAM
AS GOOD AS THIS BORO ONE HAVE
PLAYED DOWN
HERE"
THAT COMMENT MEANS A LOT COMING FROM KNOWLEDGABLE OPPOSING FANS.

I did Cheeky, but my daughter ate them before we even got there and she emptied the flask, never had to moan in the past about away trips, usually the food is good and the opposition really accommodating, but this lot were the worst ever, and a lot of bad feeling was brewing days before the game due to them putting up their prices just because we take a lot of fans.
Hope you are settled in your new home now.
