BORO TRAVEL TO PARKGATE ON SATURDAY.

Boro travel to mid table Parkgate on Saturday for what promises to be an entertaining game, while we are down in South Yorkshire our landlords and rivals Bridlington Town will be running out onto the Queensgate pitch to face 21st placed Hall Road Rangers, Town will be confident against Rangers, but it really is a must-win game for Town who have slipped down a little recently and are no longer serious title contenders.

  Leaders Brighouse will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table as they entertain Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Railway are having a disastrous season, they are in 19th position in the league table and have conceded a massive 80 goals.
   Brighouse hot shot Tom Matthews will be looking to try and close the gap between himself and the leagues leading scorer 'Boro's Ryan Blott', 
   Matthews is officially the leagues leading scorer but 9 of his 35 goals have been scored in cup competitions, but Boro's Ryan Blott has scored 32 of his total of 34 goals in league action.
   If I were to predict Saturdays results I would go for big wins for both Brighouse and Bridlington Town and a 2-0 victory for Boro at Parkgate.
   

BORO'S LEAGUE CUP TIE AT LONG EATON POSTPONED

 Boro's League cup tie at Long Eaton fell foul to the bad weather conditions last night, also postponed were the other two ties,Armthorpe Welfare v Parkgate and Nostell MW v Dinnington Town.

   All three ties have been rearranged for Tuesday 19th March.

Brighouse are sitting on top of the table with 81 points from 35 games and have a goal difference of +48. Boro' are 2nd with a game in hand, just 1 point behind and a superior goal difference of +69, our landlords Bridlington Town are then 7 points behind us on 73 from 33 games and they are 2 goals worse off than us with +67, I think one of these top 3 teams will eventually be crowned champions but in 4th place with an outside chance are Worksop Town, they are on 69 points from 34 games and have a goal difference of +30.

BORO TRAVEL TO LONG EATON FOR LEAGUE CUP TIE

Here is the Long Eaton United match preview of the game against the Boro' tomorrow evening. There will be noon pitch inspection to determine if the game will go ahead following the recent bad weather conditions.

League Cup 3rd Round Tuesday 12th March 7:45pm KO

All eyes turn to the League Cup this Tuesday (12th March) when United take on Scarborough Athletic in the 3rd Round for a place in this seasons quarter-finals.

The end of the season is fast approaching and Scarborough are absolutely flying at the moment and are looking good for promotion.
They have added to their midfield recently signing former Birmingham city, Charlton and Hull City player Bryan Hughes who made his debut in the 2-1 win over Pickering Town at the weekend. Tony Hackworth scoring the winner 12 minutes from time.

Its not clear who will start for Boro on Tuesday as they are very much focused on getting to the Evo-Stick League next season and with local rivals Bridlington having a shock 1-0 reverse at Tadcaster the baton has been handed to their tenants who lie one point behind leaders Brighouse but with a game in hand.

Bridlington have a chance to reduce the gap to 4 points on Scarborough when they travel to North Notts and to relegation threatened Arnold Town.

At the weekend in our 4-3 defeat at Worksop a milestone was passed, Shaun Rickford and Matt Savage now have 40 goals between them and the signs are looking very promising for next season if they continue in this great form, on most occasions this season, if one scores the other does as well!
Having gone down to 10 men the Blues showed great character and spirit to battle through eventually losing by the odd goal in 7.

As we look to Tuesday a worry has cropped up this morning (Monday) a dusting of snow has blown in to Long Eaton, temperatures could drop to -8C tonight but hopefully with the cold winds dropping tomorrow and a slightly warmer outlook the game should be ok. BORO FANS HAVE SEVEN PRE SEASON FIXTURES TO LOOK FORWARD TO DURING THE MONTH OF JULY.

BORO KNOCK 4 GOALS PAST JAMIE GREEN AT ARMTHORPE IN 4-1 VICTORY.

IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO SEE THE BORO KNOCK IN A FEW GOALS PAST JAMIE GREEN, AND TODAY WAS NO EXCEPTION, THIS VICTORY MEANS THAT IF WE BEAT TADCASTER ON TUESDAY NIGHT AT QUEENSGATE THEN WE WILL BE TOP OF THE LEAGUE.
  BORO DOMINATED THE GAME AND TOOK THE LEAD IN THE 15TH MINUTE, A BEAUTIFULLY HEADED GOAL FROM CURTIS BERNARD WHO WENT ON TO REGISTER HIS 2ND SUCCESSIVE HAT TRICK.
  BORO WERE BY FAR THE BETTER TEAM BUT WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE 2ND HALF BEFORE DOUBLING OUR LEAD.
  IT ONLY TOOK A COUPLE OF MINUTES THOUGH, WHEN FOLLOWING A PADDY MILLER CORNER MATT DRAPER WAS ON HAND TO SCORE FROM CLOSE RANGE.
  THE 2-0 SCORELINE WAS A BETTER REFLECTION ON THE GAME THAN 1-0 BUT WE MUST SURELY SCORE MORE CONSIDERING OUR POSSESSION.
  CURTIS BERNARD SCORED HIS 2ND OF THE GAME AFTER 64 MINUTES FOLLOWING GOOD WORK FROM FELLOW STRIKER RYAN BLOTT.
  BORO WERE IN FULL CONTROL BUT WELFARE WERE GIVEN A PENALTY WITH ABOUT 20 MINUTES REMAINING AND THEY SCORED THEIR ONE AND ONLY GOAL FROM THE RESULTING SPOT KICK.
  BORO CONTINUED TO PRESS AND BERNARD GOT HIS HAT TRICK JUST 5 MINUTES AFTER THE PENALTY GOAL, IT WAS A TERRIFIC GOAL AS HE BEAT THE WELFARE DEFENCE BEFORE HITTING THE BALL PAST THE ADVANCING JAMIE GREEN.

RUDY APOLOGISES TO FANS.

FUNK SAYS SORRY FOR CUP STUFFING.

SCARBOROUGH Athletic manager Rudy Funk apologised to the fans after last night’s dismal 5-1 North Riding Cup defeat at the hands of Guisborough Town.

Funk’s heavily altered side were comfortably second best on the night, but the Boro chief did manage to grab a positive or two.

Nick McNamara burst back onto the scene with a solid performance in the middle of the park, while youngster Wilf Dinsdale impressed from the bench.

Funk said: " I would like to apologise to the fans because there were a good few made it down to the game.

" I was impressed with Nick, who came back after injury, and I was impressed with Wilf, who looks a good find.

" Ryan Blott showed a few good touches but apart from that we were very disappointoing.

" There were a lot of senior players on show out there and a lot of them let us down.

" We underlined before and after the game that this was a competitive game, so I am not happy and I will be speaking to them at training on Thursday."

That was Boro’s final escapade in cup competitions this season, so Funk has now switched his full attention to the NCEL Premier.

He added: " We have to focus our efforts on the league season now because we have nothing left.

" We will do exactly that and will work very, very hard to make the club successful."

BORO CRASH OUT OF NORTH RIDING SENIOR CUP.

Boss Rudy Funk decided to give some fringe players a run out in this game, and although it is a fairly minor competition, I could not believe the 5-1 scoreline.
  Boro were 4-1 down at half time, and fell even further behind on the hour as Town's David Onion's added his team's 5th goal.
  So all we can do is to hope that normal service will be resumed away at Armthorpe on Saturday, and then we have a home encounter with in form Tadcaster Albion on Tuesday evening at Queensgate.

BORO v GUISBOROUGH TOWN IN N.R.S.CUP. TUESDAY NIGHT.

It is the 2nd round of the North Riding Senior Cup tomorrow night (Tuesday) a competition which was won 19 teams by the old Scarborough FC during their history.
  Tomorrow, Boro are at home to Guisborough Town in the competition.
  This is a minor competition and I personally feel that the £7 admission fee will deter many fans from attending.
  Plus the fact that Rudy is unlikely to field a full strength side and the late 8.00pm kick off, I think the club are being short sighted in sticking with the same admission fee as for NCEL Premier division games.
  The old club always reduced admission for this competition, maybe we should now also.
  For those travelling the Boro supporters bus will be leaving Scarboroughrailway station at 6.30 pm, the fare just £2.

DEANO FINALLY FINDS A GOAL IN BORO 5-2 VICTORY ROMP AT SELBY TOWN

Sadly I missed seeing the first goal from Dean Windass in a Boro league game, but no doubt now that he has broke his duck many more goals will follow from the ex Hull City star.

  I was in London for the weekend seeing the fantastic stage play "Warhorse", and I want to say if you get the chance then go and see this show at the New London Theatre, it is fantastic.

  Anyway Boro had a magnificent 5-2 victory at near neighbours Selby Town's Rigid Stadium, we were actually 2-1 down at half time, completely against the run of play, (so the paper says) but in true Boro fashion we came out for the 2nd half all fired up and justice was done as we stormed into and maintained a 5-2 lead, Rudy must have spoke some magic words at half time to the players.
  We are now in 3rd position in the league, Thackley also did us a favour in beating 2nd placed Retford United, United seem to be losing a bit of form recently, and Boro are in a healthy looking position with their games in hand over the teams above them..

RUDY FUNK'S THOUGHTS ON LAST NIGHTS GAME (from local paper)

RUDY'S ARTICLE FROM TONIGHT'S LOCAL PAPER.

SCARBOROUGH Athletic chief Rudy Funk has promised to ring the changes after hIs side’s disappointing defeat last night.

Funk was less than happy with a number of his team’s displays during the 2-1 home loss against title-rivals Staveley.

He said: " I’m not happy with it because we just seemed to go through the motions.

" You pay the price for this because Staveley are a good side. They are title challengers so they will always be up for it, like we should have been.

" Although their late goal was a wonder-strike, their player shouldn’t have been in that position.

" You have to look at the situation, you have to be touch-tight because otherwise something will happen."

He added: " The disappointment was huge and we are not a very happy camp.

" You have to learn from your mistakes though and that is something that we didn’t do from the Parkgate game last week.

" We conceded an early goal there and we have done the same against Staveley.

" I will guarantee that there will be changes for the game at Selby on Saturday because I’m not having displays like that.
I'm not happy with one or two people, but I'll be having a chat and that will be sorted behind closed doors" 

STAVELEY STEAL POINTS IN NARROW VICTORY AT QUEENSGATE.(Ryan Damms nominated for Oscar following his theatrics)

A strange game last night at a bitterly cold Queensgate, Boro didn't really show until the 2nd half, they missed the  midfield bite of Gary Hepples who was on the bench, when he did eventually join the game with just 20 minutes remaining he did make a difference to the game but it was too late to have the desired effect.
  Staveley had took an early lead, theirs was a well taken goal but on any other day the Boro defence would have dealt with the situation, last night though they were operating at somewhere close to half speed, even the usually dependable  Kev Martin was not his usual commanding self.
  Staveley were pretty ordinary, although their theatrics were top class, in particular Ryan Damms was falling and diving at every given opportunity and winning unfair free kicks for his side.
  Boro did manage an equaliser just before the half time whistle, it was man-of-the match Joe Naylor who got the all important strike, an excellent cross from Curtis Bernard found Joe about 6 yards out and he made no mistake with his well struck effort.
  Half time couldn't come quick enough for me, surely Rudy's half time talk would change things for the 2nd half.
  Boro did pick up in the 2nd half, but Staveley still looked capable of sneaking a goal, especially on the break, Boro's first substitution came in the 60th minute when Bill Law who was not having a lot of luck was replaced by Joel Hartley, Matt Draper  replaced Daz Winters minutes later and finally Gary Hepples was eventually brought into the game with 20 minutes remaining, he showed the desire and passion which had been missing from his team mates throughout this game but for all their efforts Boro could not find the finishing touch
  The referee added 5 minutes of injury time and disaster struck about 3 minutes into the 5 as Staveley's Joe Thornton struck a beautiful goal for his side, a long range shot which crashed against the crossbar and dropped into the Boro net, as fine a goal as it was, it was still undeserved, and the Staveley celebrations which followed were more like the celebrations of a team that had just won a major trophy, they must have realised just how lucky they had been.
  So we must now concentrate on the game on Saturday at Selby Town, and I imagine there will be changes to Rudy's starting eleven.

Staveley MWFC have been provided with the opportunity of free luxury coach hire for players, officials and supporters for the forthcoming away game with Scarborough Athletic FC at Bridlington FC on Tuesday 15th November 2011. The opportunity has been provided by the clubs main sponsors Baris Facades & Linings Ltd who have kindly made this generous gesture.

If the numbers dictate then the arrangements will be put in place for the coach to leave Staveley MWFC at 4:15PM and call en route at The Sir Jack Pub Junction 1 M18 at 4:45PM and returning from the game with a scheduled return to the Sir Jack Pub at 12 Midnight and 12:15AM at Staveley MWFC.

RUDY'S THOUGHTS ON THE GAME AT RETFORD..

Nice article from the local paper giving boss Rudy Funk's opinions on the Retford v Boro match.

SCARBOROUGH Athletic boss Rudy Funk was delighted with his side’s last-gasp point on the road at NCEL Premier title challengers Retford United.

He said: " I’m delighted, but it is nothing more than we deserved ."

" It was a tough encounter, they are a young, speedy side and that is why we made the selection we did.

" The selection was experience against pace and I think that paid off.

" The goal they scored was off-side, but credit to our lads, they kept going and we battered them.

" If you play well and put the pressure on then it will pay off, and what a great goal it was.

" I thought it was comfortable from the start. We hit the post with a free-kick in the first half and had great chances after that.

" I am never usually happy with a point, but I would have taken one point before kick-off at Retford.

" The last minute goal was great for the supporters . The buzz that happened after the goal went in wasw amazing."

Funk was less than happy with the playing surface, which in parts ressembled a ploughed field.

He added: " I was hugely disappointed with the pitch, for me it was a digrace.

" We like to pass the ball and move it around, but we had to go route one.

" It certainly wasn’t the best surface, had it been better then I think it would have panned out differently."

I have just been to the Surfing Seadog forum and came across this post from Retford United striker Carl Haslam scorer of their goal yesterday against us.I don't think Carl is happy at our view of the game, I personally think it is great when players from opposing teams get involved in this way.

i havent come on here to argue or cause a fight but after reading some of ur posts i aint going 2 sit back and let you say the things u are.in all fairness i think a point apeice yesterday was a fair result,i would say u had the majority of play but u didnt really create any clear chances and u certainly didnt ave it all ur own way like ur match report suggests.we do feel slightly robbed bout conceding in 90th minute but thats football,weve done it ourselves 2 teams.i also think we should ave had a penalty in 1st half,and ur number 3 should ave been sent off 4 handball or let us play on when we had the ball 2 on 1,dannys header cleared off line,ur 4 could easily ave walked 4 a elbow aswell.apart from joes shot,header,deans free kick i cannot think of another save our keeper had 2 make.as 4 u slagging our keeper and defence off i do believe that thats where ur most weak and that will be ur downfall cos ur clever goin 4ward but vulnerable at back n ur keeper is not good enough,he couldnt kick or keep hold.obviously i wasnt serious when i said u was worst team we had played but heat of moment thats wot happens,lol.good luck 4 season anyway.
