SCARBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB WERE FORCED INTO LIQUIDATION AT THE END OF THE 2006-07 SEASON. A NEW TRUST RUN CLUB HAS NOW BEEN FORMED "SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC" AND THIS BLOG WILL FOLLOW THEIR FORTUNES, BOTH ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD. UP THE BORO !!!
THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION
Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..
THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

SUBSTITUTE CRAIG HOGG TO THE RESCUE.
Rainworth came with a plan and it did not have a lot to do with playing football, this was a dour below par performance from Boro, but saying that they never gave up and in the end got their reward for their sheer persistence.
Everyone was expecting the usual turn around in form after half time, after a poor first half we usually come out a different team for the second 45 minutes, but today it was not to be.
The Boro attack seemed to fail with their last touch when attacking and too many passes were given away today.
Aaron Reid in the Boro goal almost gave a goal away towards the end, with the scores still at 0-0, he managed to let what appeared a simple save to somehow roll away from his possession close to the goal line, but luckily it was scrambled away to safety, he also had a 'moment' as he pushed over an opposing player in his area while in possession of the ball, with the standard of referees in this league that is not advisable as some would have probarbly given a penalty for the push.
Jamie Waltham was once again my man of the match and toward the end he made a succession of excellent runs into the Rainworth half laying off good passes for the forwards to run onto, Jamie was also very unlucky to find himself in the referees book close to the end after a harmless looking challenge on a Rainworth player, the ref' had said something to Jamie earlier and I think he had it in his mind to book the Boro player before this match ended, this referee was another clueless wonder, he was awful throughout the game and to mark him 0 out of 10 would be generous.
The Rainworth manager gave us the best entertainment of the day, his antics were strange, lets leave it at that.
All 3 Boro substitutes were used in the 2nd half, Carl Wood came on in defence, and also worked his way into the referees book, it was then the turn of Craig Hogg to appear, I think this was the turning point of the game, he had an immediate impact on the game, he was bursting with enthusiasm, he had a couple of half chances and was unlucky not to score within minutes of his arrival, Ryan Blott had an average sort of day by his standards but it was his through ball which Hogg ran onto to cleverly score the winning goal in the 89th minute of the game, Queensgate erupted, the fan standing next to me fell over the advertising boards onto the perimeter of the pitch as Craig Hogg and his team mates celebrated the goal right in front of us.
Boro certainly deserved their goal after all their efforts, I guess we cannot play perfect, attractive football every game, this was a difficult game against a strong Rainworth team and Boro showed strength and character to win this game.
The attendance today was 573, a fantastic turn out on a bitterly cold day, lets hope for a similar crowd on Tuesday night when we host Brighouse Town and could possibly go 12 points clear at the top of the table.
Tonight we are 9 points clear with 2 games in hand over Askern Villa in 2nd place.
Askern drew0-0 with Emley today which was a perfect result for us, as was the 1-1 draw between Appleby Frodingham and Barton Town.
UP THE BORO............
