THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

FACTS ABOUT SCARBOROUGH from Rugby Man AND THE TRUE PICTURE from Me.

It seems that along with that other so called football team named Scarborough Town who consider themselves to be at least on equal terms with Scarborough Athletic that we also have a post on the "Surfing Seadog" from 'RUGBY MAN' trying to convince us all that the rugby union club are bigger and more important than Scarborough Athletic FC, he is saying that as the best supported sporting team in Scarborough they (Scarborough Rugby Union Club) deserve more back page newspaper coverage than Scarborough Athletic or anyone else for that matter. Get a grip Rugby Man, why all of a sudden do you want more back page coverage, it has not been a problem until now. Scarborough Athletic have brought much needed sporting optimism to the town, the town is buzzing, we are hoping to achieve promotion this season and we could be playing at Wembley Stadium in May in the final of the FA Vase plus we are still in 2 other cup competitions as well.
His argument is simply that as a club they have a higher attendance average than we at Athletic and they have a larger club membership, therefore they are the towns "senior sports team". His words.
The rugby union club have been around for 82 years, we are in our 2nd season of existence, and forced to play "home" games 20 miles from "home" do I have to say anymore.
I expect idiotic comments from people at the other football club but I was surprised at this particular post on the forum (thread 5464).
Scarborough FC have always been the best supported of any sporting club in the area and thanks to the initiative of the seadog trust in forming "Athletic" just a couple of years ago in spite of "Town's" interferance, we are and I think always will be the top sporting club, the people at the rugby club should remember that they were not the best supported during those 82 years that the old Scarborough FC were around, and as we progress as we surely will then it will not be long before we pass those figures that 'rugby man' appears to be so excited about.
We will not need 82 years to get to the level of 1,ooo members and a highest gate of 847.
It should also be remembered that back in 1926 it was Scarborough Football Club who helped out the rugby club by letting them play home games at the Athletic Ground for a period of time.
UP THE BORO.......
Scarborough's premier sporting club............
