THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

FANTASTIC TEAM PERFORMANCE SEES BORO INTO 3rd ROUND OF FA VASE.

The first of 2 supporters buses arrive.

Another almost full car park. A new attendance record for Scarborough Athletic was set today as 664 fans were present.

Craig Hogg took to the field as an extra time substitute and within 5 minutes of his introduction he had put Boro into a 3-2 lead which was enough to put them into the next round of the FA Vase.
Boro had taken the lead after only 2 minutes of the match, Richard Medcalf left Paul Newton in the 'Nissan' goal with no chance of saving his shot on goal.
In the 2nd minute of the game Boro open the scoring, Richard Medcalf scores against the backdrop of a rainbow and is congratulated by team-mates.

The remaining 43 minutes of this first half saw Boro dominate the game and how they did not come off at half time with a 4 or 5 goal advantage I just don't know, instead they left the field on equal terms after Nissan found an equaliser completely against the run of play.
To be fair though the Nissan goal was a very well taken one by Neil Tarrant Aaron Reid in the Boro goal was well beaten.
The 2nd half got under way and most of the fans in the ground were still wondering how we were only on level terms, and thought it would only be a matter of time before Boro were back in the lead, but after just 5 minutes of the re-start it was Nissan who took the lead when a speculative shot managed to deceive Reid and end up in the Boro goal.
It was begining to feel like one of those days when things are just not going to go your way and all the hard work put in by Scarborough Athletic so far was not going to count for anything.
But in a thoroughly entertaining game, Boro pressed for their 2nd goal and eventually it did come.
It took until the 69th minute for Richard Medcalf to score his and Boro's 2nd goal and bring relief to the majority of the 664 fans in the stadium.
Boro really pressed for a winning goal during the final 20 minutes or so and this period was packed with incidents mainly in the Nissan goalmouth, Boro were relentless they hit the crossbar, the post twice, a goal was disallowed for offside and goalie' Paul Newton really kept his team in the game, he was excellent throughout, but Boro were the more adventurous and fully deserved their victory on the day.
However in spite of all the Boro pressure the game went into extra time and Brian France introduced Craig Hogg to the game and it only took Craig 5 minutes to score Boro's 3rd and winning goal.

The Vase was on display at the game, I think Scarborough Athletic colours suit the trophy very well.

If I were to give the team marks out of 10 today then Jamie Waltham, Dave Thompson and Gary Hepples would all receive a 10 and the rest of the players either 8 or 9, I think this was the best performance I have seen from an Athletic side.

Gary Hepples had an excellent game today.

Now, as well as a 3rd round Vase match we can also look forward to a NRSC fixture at Stokesly, a top of the league clash at Emley, a Presidents cup tie against local rivals Pickering Town and follwing all this will be games with fellow promotion hopefuls Barton Town both home and away and in between the Barton games we also play Pontefract Collieries.
So a great couple of months ahead for Scarborough Athletic
UP THE BORO...................
I noticed in the ground today people from the Scarborough Town set up, They now know why Athletic are the top rated team in the area,if they did'nt already, lots of rumours going around about possible future links between the clubs. I personally hope they are nothing more than rumours, a fantastic set up is in operation at Scarborough Athletic, They should be left to run their own club and we should continue to progress as we have from day one.
