THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

ROUND-UP OF THE 2nd PART OF OUR SEASON

In a much earlier post I covered the first part of 'Boro's' season, that post took me up to the away game at Stavely on December 1st 2007

Boro had to wait 4 week's for their next game due to the extreme weather conditions which resulted in so many postponments.

One of the wettest months ever.

So December 29th finally arrived and in front of a record crowd of 604, Boro entertained Pontefract and came out 1-0 winners, but they had to wait until the final minute of the game before Craig Hogg, who had come on as a second half sub' scored the all-important goal to give the Boro all 3 points

One week later we faced the short trip over the Humber Bridge to play Barton Town, we needed to get our revenge for the early season humiliating 6-2 defeat which was inflicted on us by Barton at our Queensgate ground in our first home league match of the new season.

Across the Humber Bridge to play Barton Town.

A very entertaining game followed which ended in a 3-3 draw, this was a good result for 'Boro' as manager Brian France had selection problems due to players having to be left out because of injuries and also Davies, Waltham and Widdowson were absent due to a stomach bug

The next game was a trip to Teeside to face Thornaby in the NRSC, this was a competition which Boro had a genuine chance of winning. Boro cruised to the next round thanks to goals from Ryan Blott and Craig Hogg, and 3 days later the team were on their way to South Yorkshire where they were to play Worsbrough Bridge, Boro won the game 3-0 with goals from Scott Phillips, Ryan Blott and Craig Hogg.

Emley were the next visitors to Queensgate and this turned out to be a controversial afternoon thanks mainly to the antics of the Emley goalkeeper and a very weak referee, the match itself ended all square at 2-2 with the Boro goals coming from Scott Phillips and Craig Hogg. Jamie Waltham was wrongly sent off for foul language, the Emley 'keeper 'Green' behaved terribly throughout the 89 minutes he was on the field, constantly swearing at and winding up the Boro fans behind his goal, he even dropped 7 Yellow & 3 red cards produced (Boro v Emley)

his shorts at one point, but eventually the referee sent him off, but not until the 89th minute, a fracas occured in the tunnel as he left the pitch and the referee blew for time before matters got any worse. In all the referee issued 7 yellow and 3 red cards, his first yellow must have been some sort of record as he brandished it at Dave Thompson after only 2 seconds of play following his legitimate sliding tackle. Next seasons games with Emley will be exciting to say the least

Boro put all the negatives of the Emley encounter behind them 7 days later and looked forward to the trip to Dinnington Town 'Dinno' were by far the best team in this league and deservedly won the title, their fans were excellent and the chip butties were the biggest ever, shame we won't be playing them next season. A crowd of 276, mainly Boro fans were in the ground and a very entertaining game ended in 4-2 defeat for Boro, youngster Ryan Morton scored his first Boro goal and Craig Hogg who came on from the bench scored the second goal.

Boss Brian France had a full strength squad to choose from for the next game, a home match against Rainworth, confidence was high especially after the good performance from an injury hit squad the previous week at Dinnington, but things did not go to plan and Boro were beaten 3-1 on the day in front of an excellent crowd of 457

Brian France now had only 3 days in which to prepare his team for their next game, another home match, the opponents, a very good Hall Road Rangers team, the lowest home crowd of the season (376) welcomed the teams out on a cold and foggy evening at Queensgate and things did not look good as Rangers took a 7th minute lead, but the end result was a resounding 3-1 victory for the Boro, A brace of goals from Craig Hogg and another for the very talented Ryan Morton sent the Boro faithfull home cold but happy.

We did not know at the time obviously, but that game was to be the start of an amazing 12 game unbeaten run in the league which would last until the final day of the season at home to Stavely.

A view of Rainworth f.c.

We had the chance to avenge the recent 3-1 home defeat by Rainworth in our next game as we we were to travel to their place in a rearranged fixture, 9 of the starting line-up were the same as in the game which resulted in the 3-1 home defeat, but Boro turned the tables and came out 3-1 winners this time, the goals coming from Blott and substitute Richard Medcalfe came off the bench to grab 2 goals for himself.

Everyone was looking forward to the York City semi-final.

Boro now had 10 days in which to prepare for the much awaited NRSC Semi final tie with near neighbours York City.

A crowd of 505 watched a very good game, but the more experienced City side were too strong for Boro and we suffered a 2-0 defeat, so had we lost our only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season ?

At least we now knew that promotion was the only prize to go for, and 4 day's later we had a home game against Bottesford Town, a game we should have won comfortably but the result was a disappointing 1-1 draw.

Brian France had 1 week to prepare for the next journey, a trip to Leeds to play Yorkshire Amateurs, he stuck with a very similar line-up, but he did bring Griffin into the starting 11 dropping Hepples to the bench, It proved a good decision as Griffin scored twice and Gary Hepples came off the bench and got a goal himself as Boro romped to a 5-0 victory, Thompson and Phillips were the other scorers.

3 days later we travelled to Tadcaster and took all the points in a 1-0 victory, and the next game was a home match with Gedling Town, we now had 4 consecutive home games to look forward to. We had won the away game at Gedling earlier in the season, Scott Phillips scored both Boro goals in a 2-1 victory, Boro won this game 4-1, the goals coming from Phillips, Griffin and 2 from Ryan Blott.

Our next game was a home match against Borrowash, even the most optimistic of Boro fans could not have expected such a scoreline as this game produced. The final score was a record breaking 8-0, Ryan Blott became the first Boro player to score a hat trick and all this in front of an impressive crowd of 559 spectators.

A happy supporter after the 8-0 victory over Borrowash.

Our next Queensgate fixture was against Teversal, the side who we were up against way back in August in our very first league game, we were beaten 2-1 in that away fixture, but this time at home the points were shared in an exciting 2-2 draw, a Scott Phillips penalty and a Ryan Blott goal secured the point for Boro, what I found disappointing was the attendance which was 66 down on the Borrowash game when we produced that 8-0 supershow.

Our next game was one I had being especially looking forward to, the home match with soon-to-be champions Dinnington Town.We were beaten 4-2 in the away fixture but we had an injury weakened side out that day and we had played very well on the day, so we had a real chance of upsetting "Dinno" this time, it was to be an excellent game which could have gone either way, but yet again 2 points were lost as we fought out a 1-1 draw, Richard Medcalfe was the Boro hero.

Dinnington fans getting ready for the trip to Queensgate.

After 4 successive home matches we were on our travels again, just down the road to Pontefract, Ryan Blott and Scott Phillips were the Boro scorers in a 2-1 victory.
Now the penultimate fixture of our season, and a chance for Borrowash to seek revenge for the 8-0 hiding they got at Queensgate only 4 weeks previousley, this was the longest journey to be faced by the Boro faithful in the league and around 220 made the trip to Derbyshire expecting another bag full of goals from the Boro but we had to be content with a share of the points once again as the two sides fought out a 2-2 draw, scorers for Boro were Gary Hepples and Ryan Blott.
Finally the season draws to a close and we have the luxury of a home match against Stavely, a typical end of season match ended in a 2-1 victory for Scarborough Athletic.

So our first season over, there were many highs and not so many lows, the squad assembled by boss Brian France is very strong and capable of gaining promotion next season, we will also be fielding a reserve side, which will benefit all the players. I think most importantly we have secured the services for a further 2 years of manager Brian France. He is a quality manager and is the reason that the club have become so successful in such a short time of existence.

The players tunnel entrance at Queensgate.

No team will look forward to playing Boro next season, We are playing at Queensgate again for at least another season and I think it will be "FORTRESS QUEENSGATE" this time around.

Chairman Simon Cope watches Brian France sign a new contract.

The future is looking excellent for Boro and everyone connected with the club.

"UP THE BORO"............

Could well be a skipper wearing a red shirt doing the same next season.
