THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

BORO END SEASON WITH 2-1 VICTORY AT QUEENSGATE.

Another full car park at Queensgate.
Steward Wayne.

Boro's final league encounter of the season brought yet another victory. The 2-1 defeat of Stavely Miners Welfare was Boro's 12th successive unbeaten league match, a great record for the club.
Another good turn out of fans.

It was not the most exciting of games, a typical end of season fixture really.
Leading scorer Scott Phillips watched today due to suspension.

Stavely actually started off the more confident, Boro took the kick-off, but it was Stavely who started the better, but it only took Boro around 5 minutes to get on top and look the more stronger and competent side, and after only 7 minutes they took the lead with the opening goal coming from skipper Graham Botham. Boro then dominated, but Stavely did look as if they could grab a lucky goal on the break and Powley in the Boro goal for only his 2nd league game of the season did make a couple of finger tip saves, one in particular was excellent, but after the save it was noticed that the linesman had his flag up for offside anyway.
Who ate all the pies ?

Ryan Blott got goal number 2 and that should have killed off the game but Stavely did get on the scoresheet late on in the game with an excellent goal themselves.
A near miss from Gary Hepples.

My man of the match was Dave Thompson, even though he was substituted he had done enough whilst on the field to win my vote, his work rate and vision top class as usual.
It was really good to welcome Joe Lightowler back late in the game after his long absence due to injury, you could see that to score a goal would have meant so much to Joe, but it did'nt come, he came close twice and in a frantic 10 minute spell Boro could have scored another 3 goals, the crossbar saved Stavely along with some last ditch defending and plain bad luck on a never-say-die Boro side.
Stavely 'keeper given his marching orders.

Stavely were reduced to 10 men when they had 'keeper Richard Ayres sent off following a foul, but Boro just could not find the back of the net in spite of their prolonged pressure
So the final whistle sounded and Boro were the 2-1 victors and so guaranteed themselves 5th position in the league table, unless Leeds Met' win their final game 18-0 on Monday night.
Had we not had the 6 points deducted by the league earlier in the season then we would have finished in 4th place.
The Boro players applauded the fans all around the ground after the final whistle and the fans in turn applauded the team after a fantastic first season for the new club came to a successful end.
Next season promises so much, manager Brian France has signed a new 2 year contract, he has plans to bring in a few more players, and we are to have a competetive reserve team also. We are also able to compete in the FA Vase, promotion has to be the number 1 priority, but a good cup run can only add more interest and excitement to the season.
Boro players leave the field applauding the fans.
UP THE BORO.........................................................
