THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

BORO 2 BARTON OLD BOYS 6..Enough said.

TODAY PROMISED SO MUCH, ESPECIALLY AFTER LAST WEEK'S 4-1 AWAY VICTORY AT THE EXPENSE OF "LEEDS CARNEGIE". THE SUN WAS SHINING, WE HAD THE MAYORESS IN ATTENDANCE, PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS AND CHEERLEADERS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY AROUND 600 "BORO" FANS IN THE GROUND.

SOME OF THE PRE-MATCH ENTERTAINMENT.
HOWEVER, THE DAY DID NOT TURN OUT THE WAY THAT I AND ALL THE OTHER FANS HAD EXPECTED.

BORO WERE VERY DISAPPOINTING, THEY WERE SECOND BEST IN EVERY DEPARTMENT,DAVE BRAMLEY IN THE BORO GOAL HAD A TERRIBLE GAME, HE LOOKED UNSURE OF HIMSELF, HE LACKED CONFIDENCE AND MADE SOME AWFUL DECISIONS BOTH IN AND OUT OF HIS GOAL AREA.
BORO TAKE THE KICK-OFF FOR THEIR FIRST "HOME" LEAGUE ENCOUNTER OF THE SEASON.

THE DEFENCE WERE JITTERY AND DID'NT REALLY HELP BRAMLEY AT ALL, THE EXCEPTION WAS JON ELLWOOD, WHO HAD A GOOD 45 MINUTES, HE GAVE 100% FROM THE KICK-OFF, BUT IN SPITE OF ALL HIS GOOD PLAY HE WAS SUBSTITUTED FOR THE SECOND HALF, ( MAYBE HE HAD AN INJURY, IN WHICH CASE HE OBVIOUSLY HAD TO COME OFF), BUT IF IT WAS A TACTICAL CHANGE BY Mr FRANCE THEN I AM BAFFLED, MATTY KENNETT WAS ALSO REPLACED FOR THE SECOND HALF AND HE DID LOOK ONE OF THE BETTER DEFENDERS ALSO, MAYBE THE REPORT IN THE PAPER ON MONDAY WILL EXPLAIN WHY THE SUBSTITUTIONS WERE MADE.MIDFIELD WAS TERRIBLE, AND IN ATTACK I CANNOT SEE WHERE THE GOALS ARE GOING TO COME FROM THIS SEASON.

WHEN WE WENT 3-O DOWN, IT COULD SO EASILY HAVE BEEN 6-0 AT THAT TIME, AS BARTON HAD MISSED A FURTHER THREE EXCELLENT CHANCES-ALL GIFTED BY BORO MISTAKES.

I AM NOT GOING TO GIVE A DETAILED REPORT AS THE 6-2 SCORELINE SAYS IT ALL.

BORO WERE OUTPLAYED, THE ONLY GOOD SPELL THEY HAD WAS AROUND THE 70th-85th MINUTE MARK, AND YET IN SPITE OF THIS LATE EFFORT THEY MANAGED TO GIVE AWAY THE LAST TWO GOALS OF THE GAME DURING THIS PERIOD. BARTON FINISHED BY PLAYING KEEP BALL IN THE CLOSING MINUTES.

A DAY TO FORGET, BORO MUST IMPROVE BEFORE THE CUP-TIE WITH PONTEFRACT COLL', BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THEY WILL HAVE TO BE VASTLY IMPROVED BEFORE THEIR VISIT TO EMLEY IN THE LEAGUE.

THE INTEREST IS THERE AND THE FANS ARE TURNING UP, BUT IF TODAYS PERFORMANCE IS TO BE REPEATED THEN I CAN SEE SOME OF THE SUPPORT DWINDLING

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD.

Very interesting and well-written site.

By far the most interesting is the pic of the coaches at Wembley in the 1970s - where did that come from?

I have to take issue with your introduction that says that Boro folded mainly due to the "inept local council". No. Boro folded due to a variety of inept, careless, self-serving, incompetent and criminal running of the club over a period of a decade or more.

Thanks for your comment, I took the pictures of the coaches at Wembley myself on my old Kodak camera,I worked at the post office back then and we had hired a coach that day (Wigan final). As for the "inept council", yes the club did bring on the problems over the years, since John Russells time really, but as for the council, in my mind they could have done more, the plans were all made for the new ground, and had the leagues backing, we all know the story so I won't repeat it all, but the council did bang the final nail into the coffin of Scarborough FC.
