THIS BLOG WAS CREATED FROM THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC'S FORMATION

Scarborough Athletic F.C were formed on June 25th 2007 following the winding up order imposed on the old club after the local council turned down the club's survival plans. The club were finally forced into liquidation with debts of £2.5 million by a High Court judge, and so ended the club's magnificent 128 year history, no thoughts or consideration was to be spared for anyone connected with the club or the towns footballing public. However a trust had been formed and we were prepared for such a situation should it arise. The Seadog Trust applied to the Northern Counties East League to enter newly formed Scarborough Athletic and they were succesful in their application.
The new club are a continuation of the old one, they have the same kit, badge, motto etc and most importantly have kept a large number of the old supporters. This blog was started by me from the very beginnings of Scarborough Athletic FC and will follow the fortunes, both good and bad of the newly formed club as they try to get back to the higher levels of the football pyramid where they rightly belong. A rival team has also been formed 'Scarborough Town', I do not expect that particular club will have much of a future, but do they realise the damage that they are causing to the future success of football in the town, our town cannot support 2 teams, Athetic are here to stay, we are the town's number one football team and will return to the higher levels of the game in the next few seasons..

THIS BLOG WAS ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNINGS OF SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE CLUB ON THEIR JOURNEY BACK TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I AM NOT HERE TO ADVERTISE OR MAKE MONEY FROM 3RD PARTY LISTINGS, I AM HERE TO SIMPLY FOLLOW THE CLUB AND TRY TO KEEP THIS BLOG AS INTERESTING AS POSSIBLE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

FINAL EVER POST."BORO" CHAMPIONS.

AS THERE IS STILL NOTHING ON THE CLUBS OFFICIAL WEBSITE TO SHOW WHAT A GREAT SEASON THE CLUB HAVE HAD, NO MENTION OF US WINNING THE LEAGUE. I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD MAKE MY FINAL EVER POST ON "COME ON YOU RED'S" A SIMPLE STATEMENT SO THAT PEOPLE  CAN SEE THAT WE ARE IN FACT CHAMPIONS OF THE NCEL PREMIER DIVISION, AND WILL NEXT SEASON BE TAKING PART IN THE 'EVO STICK' NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE, DIVISION ONE SOUTH.

POOR FINAL DAY DISPLAY BY 'CHAMPIONS' 'BORO'

This was a disappointing end to a highly successful season by Champions Scarborough Athletic. We were defeated by a very ordinary looking Glasshoughton side. The 1st half past with very little to get excited about, and the score was 0-0.
Glasshoughton started the better in the 2nd half, but it was Boro who took the lead against the run of play in the 55th minute, Ryan Blott's replacement Dave Brown opened the scoring for Boro', but within 10 minutes of the opening goal Glasshoughton were level, the game looked set to end in a 1-1 stalemate, but with just 5 minutes remaining Boro found themselves 2-1 down, and that was in fact the final score, despite the performance and result Boro fans celebrated with the players following the final whistle, and we can now look forward to exciting times ahead in the Evo Stick Leagues on the way back to the football league via the Conference.
 UP THE BORO.
                      "CHAMPIONS"

CHAMPIONS WITH A GAME STILL TO PLAY.

BORO', OFFICIALLY CHAMPIONS

Here is the local paper match report from our final home game of the season, and we are now mathematically champions, our final league game of the NCEL season is away to West Yorkshire side Glasshoughton.
Next season we will be taking part in the Evo stick league North (Northern Premier league)

Boro clinched the Northern Counties East League Premier Division title this afternoon with a workmanlike victory over Retford United at a sunny but cool Queensgate.
There were two changes to the team that had beaten main rivals Brighouse Town the previous Saturday, Tom Adams replaced the suspended Peter Davidson and James Bennett came in for the unavailable Jimmy Beadle.
Both teams took time to settle in as they got used to a bobbly pitch and a gusty wind, the first half chance fell to Boro when Paddy Miller headed wide from a Bryan Hughes corner.
Boro broke the deadlock after seventeen minutes with a beautifully constructed team goal, Louis Horne released Ryan Blott down the left, his deep cross was headed back by Tony Hackworth to Bennett, his shot was turned away by Ayden Duffy but only into the path of Bryan Hughes who bundled the ball over the line.
Retford's first effort was a shot from Bobby Johnson that was easily held by Arran Reid, up the other end, a superb cross field pass by Adams released Miller but his shot was well over.
Retford almost levelled after thirty eight minutes, Reece Thompson brought a good save from Reid, some panic ensued before the ball was eventually cleared.
Just before the break Boro had two chances, Hackworth's shot on the turn was just over, then Duffy just managed to hold onto a Miller free kick.
Boro made a change at half time Robbie Hawkes replaced Horne who had picked up an injury, but it was Retford who came out full of intent and the dangerous Adam Scott sent in a lovely cross that was somehow turned over his own bar by Andy Milne.
Boro were still trying to attack but Blott's cross was way off the mark, then Bennett played in Hawkes but he delayed his shot and he eventually fired wide, the Hawkes again was off target after a shot from Blott was blocked.
Boro were now very much on edge as news filtered through that Brighouse were three up at Barton Town Old Boys, and with the players not wanting to make a mistake the play became really scrappy, but in football things can change in an instant, and within ten minutes it all fell into place for all manners of celebrating to break out.
With fans checking their phones after hearing Barton had pulled two goals back, Boro got the all important game winning second, a cross from the right was only cleared to Hackworth who drilled his shot into the bottom corner.
Four minutes from time pandemonium broke out, Boro were making a change bringing on Dave Brown for the injured Blott, as this was happening it emerged that Barton had equalised meaning that if both games stayed the same it was Boro's title.
This was confirmed minutes later and a celebratory pitch invasion ensued before skipper Hackworth was presented with the Championship Trophy.

'FORTUNE-WEST WALKS OUT ON ARMTHORPE WELFARE.

Leo Fortune-West has resigned as manager of Armthorpe Welfare.
The team have had a disastrous season and are close to the bottom of the table with just 29 point's from 37 games played, they do however have 4 home games out of their remaining 5 fixtures so may pick up some much needed point's.
Assistant manager Brian Johnston will take over as Manager.
Leo Fortune-West was invited to the clubs committee meeting to discuss the reasons for the poor season the club have had, however he declined to attend the meeting and instead resigned from the club with immediate effect.

BORO IN WITH A SHOUT OF LEAGUE CUP GLORY ALSO.

Last night both Nostell MW and Worksop earnt their places in the semi finals of the league cup. Nostell had an excellent victory away to Tadcaster Albion a Graham Marchant penalty being the only goal of the game, while Worksop were comfortable victors over Parkgate, a Lee Holmes double securing their victory.
Scarborough Athletic play their twice postponed league cup game at Long Eaton United next Tuesday and the winners of the tie will travel to Thackley just one week later (Tues 16th April) to complete their quarter final game.
Looking even further ahead to the semi finals, the games will be as follows :
Nostell MW v Louth Town.
Thackley/Long Eaton Utd/Scarborough Ath' v Worksop.
  Hope all that makes sense.
Louth are the only remaining team from Division 1 left  in the competition, all the others are Premier division sides.

BORO' GO 6 POINTS CLEAR AT THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE.

In spite of a below par performance last night, the 2-1 victory over Barton Town Old Boys pushed Boro' 6 points clear of our only realistic rivals for promotion Brighouse Town.
Boro' took the lead through an own goal following a Tony Hackworth effort, his shot was deflected into the goal off Town defender Craig Suddaby.
  Half time score 1-0.
Tony Hackworth doubled the lead for Boro', and in spite of some good play from Town, who did manage to find the back of the Boro' net to keep themselves in the game, it was Boro who held on for the 3 points, extending  their lead in the table to a massive 6 points, and with another home game on Saturday we must be confident of a much better display, another bumper crowd  and another 3 points.
The following week we go to Brighouse Town, for what really will be very much something of a deciding game, the winners of this game will surely be crowned Champions.
As long as we win all our remaining games, we will be champions, as we do have a superior goal difference to Town.

FANTASTIC EAST COAST DERBY ENDS ALL SQUARE AS BORO AND TOWN SHARE 6 GOALS.

BORO' BOSS RUDY FUNK.

BORO FAN CHELSEY.
The much awaited game between ourselves and our landlord's Bridlington Town lived up to all its expectations as the teams fought out a magnificent 3-3 draw at a sunny but  cold Queensgate.

MOST ENVIED BENCH IN THE LEAGUE !
There was a new record attendance for the NCEL Premier division, as 1,247 fans were in the ground, the Boro' fans outnumbered the 'home' fans, in fact I hardly heard any noises of celebration following the 3 Town goals.
CARRY ON TWEETING.
It was exciting from the first whistle, and Boro' deservedly took the lead through Paddy Miller, but the celebrations from Boro fans was shortlived when Town equalised after what seemed no more than a minute after Boro's opener.
Manager  Rudy Funk could not believe the equaliser, and repeatedly said "Why do they always do this" as he faced his bench, like you Rudy  we don't know the answer either.
UP THE BORO !
Boro were on top and should have extended their lead further rather

than let it slip.
TOWN DEFENDING.
Worse was to follow as Town sneaked a second goal to take the lead, but Boro's Jimmy Beadle came to the rescue and put us level to give us a 2-2 scoreline at half time.
The second half continued in much the same way as the first half finished with Boro looking the stronger side and sure enough we took the lead again, it was Ryan Blott this time, but as the half progressed Town were getting more into the game, and to be fair both sides looked capable of scoring the next goal.
I'M STARVING, HOW LONG IS THE QUEUE.
Town eventually found the back of the Boro' net as Greening put his side level at 3-3
Town were so lucky when they cleared their goal line with the 'keeper beaten and Boro's Arran Reid also made a fantastic close range save at the other end.
ANOTHER BORO' ATTACK.
Both sides looked desperately for a winning goal, Town were reduced to 10 men, and just before the end play was stopped for what felt like around 10 minutes as Town's former Boro defender Frank Belt fell awkwardly and dislocated his elbow, an ambulance had to be called, and hopefully Frank will recover well from his injury.
SCOTT PHILLIPS "PHONE A FRIEND"
FRANK BELT FALLS AND DISLOCATES ELBOW.
So a great game of football which had everything, and I think the referee "N Guest" and his assistants deserve some praise, I personally thought they had a really good afternoon, the referee had excellent control of the game and the players actually seemed to respect the man.
The only downside of today for me was the whole 'Groundhoppers' nonesense, I have posted before about them, I do not see why they should dictate the admission charges set by clubs, and when they were questioned in the car park after the game they were rude and arrogant towards the fans who dared to question them. I for one will not miss this league if indeed we are lucky enough to gain promotion from it.

HERE ARE THE FIXTURES FOR THIS SATURDAY IN THE NCEL PREMIER DIVISION. TOP GAME OF COURSE IS THE BRID' V BORO' DERBY, BUT THE BRIGHOUSE GAME WITH HALL ROAD RANGERS PROMISES TO BE SPECIAL ALSO, BRIGHOUSE WILL BE WAITING FOR ANY SLIP UP BY BORO', BUT THEY HAVE TO DEFEAT HALL ROAD FIRST, MAYBE THEIR CONCENTRATION WILL NOT BE FULLY ON THEIR OWN GAME, ANYWAY GOOD LUCK TO HALL ROAD ON SATURDAY.
PICKERING TOWN  V WORKSOP SHOULD BE AN ENTERTAINING GAME, I THINK JIMMY REID HAS DONE BRILLIANT SINCE HIS RETURN TO TOWN.
THE EVENING KICK OFF AT TADCASTER SHOULD BE A GOOD GAME ALSO.STRANGE HOW 3 OF THE GAMES I HAVE MENTIONED ARE THE THE THREE WHICH THE GROUNDHOPPERS ARE ATTENDING AND DICTATING ADMISSION PRICES ETC. UNBELIEVABLE !

WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR NORTHERN COUNTIES GROUNDHOP WEEKEND

What a load of shite !
NCEL decide admission prices thanks to their "groundhop day"
So my daughter and her grandaughter travel from Rothwell to see Boro and the Grandaughter has to pay an extra £2 because the Groundhoppers say so.
Bridlington Town normally charge £3 for concessions, this Saturday it is £5, should not be allowed.

HERE IS THE VIEW OF SATURDAY'S DERBY GAME FROM THE LOCAL BRIDLINGTON PAPER.

BRIDLINGTON Town take on Scarborough Athletic on Easter Saturday, with the stakes higher than in any of the meetings between the two clubs to date.
Defeat will practically end third-placed Town’s hopes of winning the NCEL championship, and will edge their rivals one step closer towards the title.
But Town will approach the fixture in fresh and confident mood, with this week’s games at Thackley and Parkgate were snowed off, meaning the Seasiders have not played since a gallant 3-1 defeat to North Ferriby in the East Riding Senior Cup semi-final last Tuesday.
Frank Belt has played in derby matches for Bridlington and Scarborough and admitted this is the fixture all the players have been looking forward to.
He said: “Personally, this is the first match I look for as soon as the league fixtures are released.
“I can’t recall a bigger league game coming up between the two sides since Scarborough got promoted into the NCEL Premier Division a few years ago.
“The atmosphere will be tense and you will see both sets of players giving their maximum.
“It really doesn’t get much bigger than this, especially at this stage in the season when both teams are fighting for promotion. The lads are well up for this tie and confident too.
“The match against Ferriby last Tuesday has left us feeling good about ourselves, having proven that we can compete against the high flyers of the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
“Even though we did lose on the night it’s arguable to say that the best team didn’t go through. I thought the way we matched them one to one and our work ethic on and off the ball was very good.
“This is what we have to take into the match against Scarborough and show them why we’re not out of this promotion push just yet.”
Fellow defender Wayne Aziz added: “I’m looking forward to it. We are disappointed not to be closer to them, but I think their resources within the squad at this time of the season has made a huge difference.
“We haven’t given up and have nothing to lose and will be giving it a real go on Saturday.”
Scarborough won the season’s first league match 2-1 on Boxing Day, which was midfielder Chris Batchelor’s first experience of an East Coastderby. He said: “We just have to take each game as it comes and hope Scarborough and Brighouse drop points. They are expecting a big crowd for the Boro game so obviously you want to play in those matches and win them.
“It’s all getting exciting at the business end of the season and all we can do is win our games and hope we have a chance.”
Manager Mitch Cook says he is confident of being able to choose from a full-strength squad. He said: “Everyone is available, so we are fit, ready and raring to go. We will train on Thursday and I already know the team I will pick.”
Kick off is at 11.30am and fans are urged to get to the ground as early as possible.

ROBBED BOTH ON THE PITCH AND IN THE CHANGING ROOMS.

You may be surprised to learn that even back in 1949 Boro had players in the team who had to travel fair distances to home games just as the players of today do, we seem to assume that back then teams were full of local players, but this gem of an article proves otherwise.
We go back to Easter Monday 1949 and as Scarborough FC were playing Gainsborough Trinity, thieves had got into the changing rooms.
The robbery took place during the first half, while Boro' who were 3rd from bottom of the Midland League were holding league leaders Gainsborough Trinity very creditably.
The robbery was discovered at half time, money, watches, cigarette lighters and fountain pens were missing. The pockets of all the Boro' players had been rifled, the referee and linesman were victims too and only the Gainsborough changing room was left untouched.
Scarborough goalkeeper Cyril Hannaby lost the key to his fish and chip shop in Doncaster and his return train ticket home. Bill Parke, the captain had his return train ticket to York also taken, and Dennis Kirby lost his return ticket to Leeds.
A tanoy announcement asked for Detective-Officer Bond, who was among the 3,500 crowd at the game.
There were few clues, no sign of a break in. The thieves had probably sneaked in through the main doors and reached the changing rooms by the main passage.
It was disconcerting for the Scarborough players, who had the 2nd half to play. On the field they were robbed of victory too. After taking the lead late in the game, they conceded an own goal with the last kick of the match.
Boro's 1-1 draw was their best performance of the season, but it was an afternoon of mixed feelings.
But what a great crowd for a struggling Midland league team.
                                          UP THE BORO !

BORO'S TWICE POSTPONED LEAGUE CUP TIE HAS NEW DATE.

Our twice postponed 3rd Round League cup tie away to Long Eaton United has been sceduled for Tuesday April 9th. If we progress to the Quarter final stage we will travel to Thackley the following Tuesday.
The other three games in the Quarter finals are:
Louth v Stavely MW.
Tadcaster Albion v Nostell MW.
Worksop v Parkgate.

2-0 VICTORY OVER TADCASTER PUTS IN FORM BORO' TOP OF THE TABLE.

A hard fought victory today in freezing conditions against a very good Tadcaster Albion side  has put Scarborough Athletic in number one position in the league table.
Now with just six league fixtures remaining promotion  really is in our own hands, we can now look forward to the derby game with Bridlington Town on Saturday with real confidence and enthusiasm, it promises to be a great day at Queensgate and there should be a bumper crowd in the ground creating a wonderful atmosphere, and as a bonus the early kick off will mean that those who wish will be able to take in a second game, I will be at the Pickering Town match
Boro's goals came late in the game today, Paddy Miller opened the scoring with 16 minutes remaining and Ryan Blott grabbed our second goal deep into injury time.
We are now 2 points above Brighouse Town, both teams having played the same number of games.
It is going to be a great finish to the season.
I thought the attendance today of 381 was terrific considering the weather conditions.

                              UP THE BORO'.

ONLY ONE GAME IN WHOLE OF NCEL BEATS THE SNOW TODAY.

Every game in both the Premier and 1st Division's of the Northern Counties East league, with the exception of Scarborough Athletic v Tadcaster Albion has been postponed due to the wintry conditions throughout the region. We in Filey and Scarborough seem to be just about the only places to have no snow, conditions are very cold with a freezing wind, not ideal for either playing or watching football, but it has remained dry and snow free and victory today or a draw even would see Boro move to the top of the table.
The following announcement was taken from the NCEL website earlier today.

Season Extended to 4th May
The Leagues Committee of the Football Association has given approval for an extension of the playing season in the Baris NCEL up to and including Saturday 4th May.
This should be noted that the season cannot be extended beyond this date since the Football Association have to begin the National League System promotion and relegation procedures by the following midweek.

As a result of this decision, all games that were scheduled to be played today but were postponed will now be played on Saturday 4th May.

TOP 3 TEAMS RUN IN TO THE END OF THE SEASON

It is looking like a 3 way chase for the NCEL Premier League Championship, Boro' have 7 games to play and if the men in red can win each game then no one can prevent them being crowned champions.
Boro' are presently in 2nd position behind leaders Brighouse Town, but have a game in hand are just one point behind Town.
In third place are Bridlington Town, they are 7 points behind 2nd placed Boro' and have a game in hand, but they must be regarded as the outsiders of the top three to gain promotion.
As for the remaining fixtures Boro have four home games and three away, we host Tadcaster tomorrow, then are classed as the away team in the Bridlington Town derby at Easter, we follow that game with a home fixture with Barton Town Old Boys, then home again to Winterton Rangers, next is what promises to be so important, the away game at present leaders Brighouse Town, the final two games of our season sees Retford Town visit Queensgate and finally we travel to Glasshoughton.
Brighouse Town have six games remaining and cannot afford to slip up in any one of them, tomorrow they travel to Maltby Main, following that is a home match against Hall Road Rangers, then away to Thackley, followed by the home game against Boro' and they follow that with two tough away games at Barton Town and Tadcaster Albion respectively.
Bridlington Town's season finishes like this, Thackley away, Parkgate away, Boro' at home, Barton Town away, Liversedge home, Arnold Town away, Worksop Town away, and finally a home game with Long Eaton Utd.
Top of the table tonight looks like this.
BRIGHOUSE. played 36. 84 points. +55.
BORO'            played 35. 83points. +71.
BRID TOWN. played 34. 76 points. +70
So, a very difficult run in for Bridlingto Town who I personally think are out of the race, but Boro and Brighouse could both be in with a shout right up to the final game of the season.
Wrap up well tomorrow at Queensgate.
                                            UP THE BORO'.

NEVER MIND ROMA AND LAZIO IS HE GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY FOR BORO !

I have just been looking at Rudy's weekly column in the local paper and one paragraph really stood out and it is typical of the  man, while being interviewed about new signing Francis Anyanwu, Rudy was asked if he was aware that both Roma and Lazio had shown interest in the player following a spell playing in Italy, Rudy simply replied "I'm not bothered who was chasing him, I just want to see if he is good enough for 'Boro'.
 Fantastic Rudy, don't ever change.

OUR GAME POSTPONED BUT PARKGATE WIN 10 GOAL THRILLER AT ARMTHORPE.

Although Boro's game at Long Eaton was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, the other two 3rd Round ties did go ahead.
Nostell MW progressed to the 4th round following their 3-2 victory over Dinnington Town.
The game of the night must have been the Armthorpe Welfare v Parkgate game which finished with 10 goals.
Welfare were 3 goals up after just 15 minutes, 2 of which were debatable penalty decisions, they will know how Boro felt when they played us just 3 days ago, enough said !
Anyway, all credit to Gate as they fought back and it took them just 3 minutes following Welfare's 3rd goal to pull 1 goal back, then in the 24th minute Gate's Craig Fletcher pulled another goal back.
However, Leo Fortune-West grabbed Welfare's 4th goal just 5 minutes later.
Sam Smith came close to grabbing Gate's 3rd but half time arrived with the score 4-2.
The 2nd half belonged to Parkgate, they scored their 3rd goal within 1 minute of the re-start, making the deficit just a single goal, then just before the hour mark Gate were level at 4-4.
Tom Roebuck put Gate into the lead for the first time when he saw the Welfare 'keeper off his line and fired a 40 yard shot high into the top corner of the net.
Then with just 5 minutes remaining Jamie Smith put Gate 6-4 up and that was the final score.
A great comeback from Parkgate and they now travel to Worksop Parramore in the 4th Round.

LONG EATON POSTPONED AGAIN !

Boro' and their fans were spared another long journey last night as the League cup game away to Long Eaton was once again postponed. The game was called off following a late pitch inspection, so we can now concentrate on the league encounter with Tadcaster Albion on Saturday, and then the 'big one', no disrespect to Albion but the derby game with Brid' promises so much on Easter Saturday, and I think the crowd could possibly be higher than the magical 1,000 figure.

TOP 3 TEAMS IN NECL PREMIER DIVISION ALL WIN

AS EXPECTED ALL THE TOP 3 SIDES WON THEIR RESPECTIVE GAMES YESTERDAY, WE WON 4-2 AT PARKGATE OF COURSE, AND WHILE WE WERE COLLECTING OUR 3 POINTS, TOP SIDE BRIGHOUSE TOWN WERE DEMOLISHING LINCOLN MOORLANDS RAILWAY 8-1, WITH TOWN'S LEADING SCORER TOM MATTHEWS GRABBING HIMSELF A COUPLE MORE  GOALS.
MEANWHILE BACK AT QUEENSGATE 3RD PLACED BRIDLINGTON TOWN KEPT THEIR SLIM CHAMPIONSHIP HOPES ALIVE WITH A 4-1 VICTORY OVER HALL ROAD RANGERS, EX BORO FAVOURITE SCOTT PHILLIPS SCORED 2 OF TOWN'S GOALS.

BORO' JUST TOO GOOD FOR PARKGATE.

Rudy as ever acknowledges the travelling Boro fans.
Boro were far too good for a physical Parkgate side today.Boro attacked from the kick off and could have been 2 goal's to the good before Ryan Blott's eventual opener in the 11th minute. Tony Hackworth supplied the cross and Blotty was on hand at the far post to head home, at that moment I and around 200 other Boro fans in the ground were looking forward to a dominant Boro grabbing  a hatfull of goals against a hard working but only average Parkgate side.
Cheer up Dayle !
However, in spite of our dominance it was Parkgate who were next on the scoresheet, the referee had awarded Parkgate a penalty followng a stupid tackle by Boro's Plummer on Parkgate's Roebuck. Fletcher equalised for 'Gate from the penalty spot.
It was still all Boro and we got our deserved reward on the stroke of half time when Jimmy Beadle headed home from a Ryan Blott cross, Boro fans were relieved, but even more joy was to come minutes later before the referee blew for half time, deep into added time Hackworth was manhandled in the 'Gate penalty area by Parkate's Jackson, the referee pointed to the spot and up stepped Bryan Hughes to send  keeper Poulter the wrong way, the referee then blew to end the half, Boro were 3-1 up and that score was a fair reflection on the performance of the teams.
Jimmy Beadle
The 2nd half started without Ryan Blott who had been replaced by Brown.
I have avoided comments about the referee so far, but he was clueless, just ask his assistant who himself seemed bemused at some of Mr Smith's decision making, he allowed Parkgate back into the game by awarding them what I consider the most ridiculous penalty decision I have ever witnessed, Parkgates Sam Smith was running through toward the Boro goal, the word running does not really explain the sluggish forward movement of the big man, 'donkey' comes to mind, anyway Sam actually looked knackered when he was close to the Boro goal and he just seemed to fall over his own feet and drop to the ground like a sack of coal, Boro defender Plummer never touched Sam, and yet the referee pointed to the spot giving Parkgate an opportunity to close the arrears.
Bryan Hughes puts us 3-1 up from the penalty spot.
The whole ground could not believe the decision, but the penalty was given and Sam himself stepped up and justice was done as his powerful shot crashed against the crossbar and away to safety.
To be fair 'Gate began to look a little dangerous during the last quarter and they did create a couple of half chances, but my 'man of the match' Jimmy Beadle put Boro 4-2 up in the 89th minute with a cracking shot leaving Poulter with no chance, the scoreline flattered Parkgate, I think the game will be remembered as much for the ref's decisions as the football itself .
Triumphant players and manager Rudy after the final whistle.
However 200 or so Boro fans left South Yorkshire and headed up the M1 in happy mood and looking forward to Long Eaton on Tuesday and then the Tadcaster game at home on Saturday, should be a bumper crowd at Queensgate.
