IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO SEE THE BORO KNOCK IN A FEW GOALS PAST JAMIE GREEN, AND TODAY WAS NO EXCEPTION, THIS VICTORY MEANS THAT IF WE BEAT TADCASTER ON TUESDAY NIGHT AT QUEENSGATE THEN WE WILL BE TOP OF THE LEAGUE.
BORO DOMINATED THE GAME AND TOOK THE LEAD IN THE 15TH MINUTE, A BEAUTIFULLY HEADED GOAL FROM CURTIS BERNARD WHO WENT ON TO REGISTER HIS 2ND SUCCESSIVE HAT TRICK.
BORO WERE BY FAR THE BETTER TEAM BUT WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE 2ND HALF BEFORE DOUBLING OUR LEAD.
IT ONLY TOOK A COUPLE OF MINUTES THOUGH, WHEN FOLLOWING A PADDY MILLER CORNER MATT DRAPER WAS ON HAND TO SCORE FROM CLOSE RANGE.
THE 2-0 SCORELINE WAS A BETTER REFLECTION ON THE GAME THAN 1-0 BUT WE MUST SURELY SCORE MORE CONSIDERING OUR POSSESSION.
CURTIS BERNARD SCORED HIS 2ND OF THE GAME AFTER 64 MINUTES FOLLOWING GOOD WORK FROM FELLOW STRIKER RYAN BLOTT.
BORO WERE IN FULL CONTROL BUT WELFARE WERE GIVEN A PENALTY WITH ABOUT 20 MINUTES REMAINING AND THEY SCORED THEIR ONE AND ONLY GOAL FROM THE RESULTING SPOT KICK.
BORO CONTINUED TO PRESS AND BERNARD GOT HIS HAT TRICK JUST 5 MINUTES AFTER THE PENALTY GOAL, IT WAS A TERRIFIC GOAL AS HE BEAT THE WELFARE DEFENCE BEFORE HITTING THE BALL PAST THE ADVANCING JAMIE GREEN.

FUNK SAYS SORRY FOR CUP STUFFING.

SCARBOROUGH Athletic manager Rudy Funk apologised to the fans after last night’s dismal 5-1 North Riding Cup defeat at the hands of Guisborough Town.

Funk’s heavily altered side were comfortably second best on the night, but the Boro chief did manage to grab a positive or two.

Nick McNamara burst back onto the scene with a solid performance in the middle of the park, while youngster Wilf Dinsdale impressed from the bench.

Funk said: " I would like to apologise to the fans because there were a good few made it down to the game.

" I was impressed with Nick, who came back after injury, and I was impressed with Wilf, who looks a good find.

" Ryan Blott showed a few good touches but apart from that we were very disappointoing.

" There were a lot of senior players on show out there and a lot of them let us down.

" We underlined before and after the game that this was a competitive game, so I am not happy and I will be speaking to them at training on Thursday."

That was Boro’s final escapade in cup competitions this season, so Funk has now switched his full attention to the NCEL Premier.

He added: " We have to focus our efforts on the league season now because we have nothing left.

" We will do exactly that and will work very, very hard to make the club successful."

Boss Rudy Funk decided to give some fringe players a run out in this game, and although it is a fairly minor competition, I could not believe the 5-1 scoreline.
Boro were 4-1 down at half time, and fell even further behind on the hour as Town's David Onion's added his team's 5th goal.
So all we can do is to hope that normal service will be resumed away at Armthorpe on Saturday, and then we have a home encounter with in form Tadcaster Albion on Tuesday evening at Queensgate.

BORO v GUISBOROUGH TOWN IN N.R.S.CUP. TUESDAY NIGHT.

It is the 2nd round of the North Riding Senior Cup tomorrow night (Tuesday) a competition which was won 19 teams by the old Scarborough FC during their history.
Tomorrow, Boro are at home to Guisborough Town in the competition.
This is a minor competition and I personally feel that the £7 admission fee will deter many fans from attending.
Plus the fact that Rudy is unlikely to field a full strength side and the late 8.00pm kick off, I think the club are being short sighted in sticking with the same admission fee as for NCEL Premier division games.
The old club always reduced admission for this competition, maybe we should now also.
For those travelling the Boro supporters bus will be leaving Scarboroughrailway station at 6.30 pm, the fare just £2.

DEANO FINALLY FINDS A GOAL IN BORO 5-2 VICTORY ROMP AT SELBY TOWN

Sadly I missed seeing the first goal from Dean Windass in a Boro league game, but no doubt now that he has broke his duck many more goals will follow from the ex Hull City star.

I was in London for the weekend seeing the fantastic stage play "Warhorse", and I want to say if you get the chance then go and see this show at the New London Theatre, it is fantastic.

DEAN WINDASS WHO OPENED HIS BORO SCORING ACCOUNT AT SELBY TOWN ON SATURDAY.

Anyway Boro had a magnificent 5-2 victory at near neighbours Selby Town's Rigid Stadium, we were actually 2-1 down at half time, completely against the run of play, (so the paper says) but in true Boro fashion we came out for the 2nd half all fired up and justice was done as we stormed into and maintained a 5-2 lead, Rudy must have spoke some magic words at half time to the players.
We are now in 3rd position in the league, Thackley also did us a favour in beating 2nd placed Retford United, United seem to be losing a bit of form recently, and Boro are in a healthy looking position with their games in hand over the teams above them..

RUDY'S ARTICLE FROM TONIGHT'S LOCAL PAPER.

SCARBOROUGH Athletic chief Rudy Funk has promised to ring the changes after hIs side’s disappointing defeat last night.

Funk was less than happy with a number of his team’s displays during the 2-1 home loss against title-rivals Staveley.

He said: " I’m not happy with it because we just seemed to go through the motions.

" You pay the price for this because Staveley are a good side. They are title challengers so they will always be up for it, like we should have been.

" Although their late goal was a wonder-strike, their player shouldn’t have been in that position.

" You have to look at the situation, you have to be touch-tight because otherwise something will happen."

He added: " The disappointment was huge and we are not a very happy camp.

" You have to learn from your mistakes though and that is something that we didn’t do from the Parkgate game last week.

" We conceded an early goal there and we have done the same against Staveley.

" I will guarantee that there will be changes for the game at Selby on Saturday because I’m not having displays like that.
I'm not happy with one or two people, but I'll be having a chat and that will be sorted behind closed doors"

STAVELEY STEAL POINTS IN NARROW VICTORY AT QUEENSGATE.(Ryan Damms nominated for Oscar following his theatrics)

A strange game last night at a bitterly cold Queensgate, Boro didn't really show until the 2nd half, they missed the midfield bite of Gary Hepples who was on the bench, when he did eventually join the game with just 20 minutes remaining he did make a difference to the game but it was too late to have the desired effect.
Staveley had took an early lead, theirs was a well taken goal but on any other day the Boro defence would have dealt with the situation, last night though they were operating at somewhere close to half speed, even the usually dependable Kev Martin was not his usual commanding self.
Staveley were pretty ordinary, although their theatrics were top class, in particular Ryan Damms was falling and diving at every given opportunity and winning unfair free kicks for his side.
Boro did manage an equaliser just before the half time whistle, it was man-of-the match Joe Naylor who got the all important strike, an excellent cross from Curtis Bernard found Joe about 6 yards out and he made no mistake with his well struck effort.
Half time couldn't come quick enough for me, surely Rudy's half time talk would change things for the 2nd half.
Boro did pick up in the 2nd half, but Staveley still looked capable of sneaking a goal, especially on the break, Boro's first substitution came in the 60th minute when Bill Law who was not having a lot of luck was replaced by Joel Hartley, Matt Draper replaced Daz Winters minutes later and finally Gary Hepples was eventually brought into the game with 20 minutes remaining, he showed the desire and passion which had been missing from his team mates throughout this game but for all their efforts Boro could not find the finishing touch
The referee added 5 minutes of injury time and disaster struck about 3 minutes into the 5 as Staveley's Joe Thornton struck a beautiful goal for his side, a long range shot which crashed against the crossbar and dropped into the Boro net, as fine a goal as it was, it was still undeserved, and the Staveley celebrations which followed were more like the celebrations of a team that had just won a major trophy, they must have realised just how lucky they had been.
So we must now concentrate on the game on Saturday at Selby Town, and I imagine there will be changes to Rudy's starting eleven.

SCARBOROUGH Athletic boss Rudy Funk was delighted with his side’s last-gasp point on the road at NCEL Premier title challengers Retford United.

He said: " I’m delighted, but it is nothing more than we deserved ."

" It was a tough encounter, they are a young, speedy side and that is why we made the selection we did.

" The selection was experience against pace and I think that paid off.

" The goal they scored was off-side, but credit to our lads, they kept going and we battered them.

" If you play well and put the pressure on then it will pay off, and what a great goal it was.

" I thought it was comfortable from the start. We hit the post with a free-kick in the first half and had great chances after that.

" I am never usually happy with a point, but I would have taken one point before kick-off at Retford.

" The last minute goal was great for the supporters . The buzz that happened after the goal went in wasw amazing."

Funk was less than happy with the playing surface, which in parts ressembled a ploughed field.

He added: " I was hugely disappointed with the pitch, for me it was a digrace.

" We like to pass the ball and move it around, but we had to go route one.

" It certainly wasn’t the best surface, had it been better then I think it would have panned out differently."

I have just been to the Surfing Seadog forum and came across this post from Retford United striker Carl Haslam scorer of their goal yesterday against us.I don't think Carl is happy at our view of the game, I personally think it is great when players from opposing teams get involved in this way.

i havent come on here to argue or cause a fight but after reading some of ur posts i aint going 2 sit back and let you say the things u are.in all fairness i think a point apeice yesterday was a fair result,i would say u had the majority of play but u didnt really create any clear chances and u certainly didnt ave it all ur own way like ur match report suggests.we do feel slightly robbed bout conceding in 90th minute but thats football,weve done it ourselves 2 teams.i also think we should ave had a penalty in 1st half,and ur number 3 should ave been sent off 4 handball or let us play on when we had the ball 2 on 1,dannys header cleared off line,ur 4 could easily ave walked 4 a elbow aswell.apart from joes shot,header,deans free kick i cannot think of another save our keeper had 2 make.as 4 u slagging our keeper and defence off i do believe that thats where ur most weak and that will be ur downfall cos ur clever goin 4ward but vulnerable at back n ur keeper is not good enough,he couldnt kick or keep hold.obviously i wasnt serious when i said u was worst team we had played but heat of moment thats wot happens,lol.good luck 4 season anyway.

LATE BORO EQUALISER RESCUES WELL DESERVED POINT AT RETFORD UTD.

Scarborough Athletic lined up against high flying United minus Gary Hepples and Ryan Blott, who were both serving suspensions and Paddy Miller was also absent due to food poisoning.
Dean Windass replaced Blott and new signing Luke Fletcher replaced Hepples, Denny Ingram stepped in for the unlucky Miller.
Boro were far the better team and after United made a reasonable start, Boro soon got on top and took command of the game, Carl Haslam was dangerous for United, but Haslam apart this was a very ordinary United side.
But in spite of the Boro pressure and near misses from Windass, Ghaicham, Bernard and Naylor the half time whistle sounded with the scoreline 0-0.
United somehow took the lead inside 5 minutes of the re-start, that man Haslam received the ball in a blatant offside position, but surprise ! surprise ! he was allowed to play on and his shot went past Kev Martin to put his side into the lead.
Boro showed great determination and they had a string of chances, but either simple bad luck or the width of the goalposts meant that United kept their slender lead.
But Boro's never-say-die attitude paid dividends once again as deep into injury time skipper Hackworth played the ball to Naylor and his shot left Fisher in the United goal stranded.
So a great Boro performance, we should have won the game, but this was an addition to the great unbeaten run that we are enjoying at this time.
3 points on Tuesday against Staveley could see us in 3rd place in the league just 1 point behind leaders Bridlington Town and 2nd placed Retford United.

Luke has joined us from Stavely Miners Welfare, he had joined Welfare from Parkgate shortly after the season started.
Luke is 25 years of age and actually played against Boro in the opening game of the season along with Jimmy Ghaicham who is already a Boro player for Parkgate, a game Boro won 4-2 in front of a crowd of 515.
By coincidence if selected he will face Stavely MW next week as a Boro player.

Our trip to Retford on Saturday will see us face a strong Retford team which includes the leagues leading scorer Carl Haslam

Leading scorer Carl Haslam.

Carl has 16 club goals to his credit this term since joining Retford Utd from Shirebrook Town back in September.
8 of those goals are league goals while the other 8 are from his clubs cup competitions.
Another player showing great form is Warren Hatfield who has scored in 3 of his last 4 outings for Retford.
Should be a really good game on Saturday, and the A1 should be busy with Seadog fans making their way down to Cannon Park.

PARKGATE AND BORO SHARE THE POINTS TONIGHT.

Parkgate silenced the large Boro following and stunned their opponents with a goal inside the first minute of play, following a poor clearance by the Boro defence, Nathan Swindells was left with an easy opportunity and he took his chance well striking the ball home from near the edge of the penalty area.
But the joy for Parkgate was to be shortlived as Boro stormed on with attack after attack and it was only moments later when Paddy Miller found the inevitable equaliser heading the ball firmly home following a corner.
Boro looked dangerous and were attacking at will, but Parkgate themselves were looking as if they were capable of scoring also and it was a thoroughly entertaining first 45 minutes, the score remained 1-1 at the interval, a Ryan Blott header just before the break was cleared off the goal line by a Parkgate defender with 'keeper Jamie Bailey looking on helplessly.
The 2nd half continued in much the same way as the 1st, Boro held the upper hand but Parkgate had their chances in what was at times end to end football.
Dave Kemp had a commanding game in the Boro defence and Kev Martin in the Boro goal made some excellent saves, just as Parkgate's Jamie Bailey did at the other end of the pitch.
So, a really entertaining game and played in the right spirit, and it was good to see a referee turning in a good performance also.
The final score was 1-1.
3 points would have been nice but in fairness, Parkgate probably felt they deserved their share of the points tonight.

STEVE PALEY and the rest of the Dennyfaithful saw a very disappointing display by the Dennyboys – an afternoon and a match to put behind them.

The visitors to Dennyfield on Saturday were Scarborough Athletic, sitting in fourth position in the league with 24 points from ten matches, they were three places and two points better off than Thackley and had played two games fewer. The Seadogs were looking to extend their winning sequence of league matches to seven, whilst the Dennyboys were hoping to extend their unbeaten run in the league to eight. Thackley had not been at their best in Tuesday night's County Cup exit against Armthorpe, they would need to be, against one of the teams likely to be pushing for promotion this year. Thackley made changes from their midweek encounter, Matt Convey returned in goal, Dean Walters replaced the unavailable Nicky Mattews and Keenan Ratcliffe came in for the injured Matt Morgan.

The game was virtually over as a contest after just thirteen minutes, the rampant Seadogs tearing the Dennyboys apart with three well taken goals. The game was less than a minute old when they scored the first, Curtis Bernard ran unchallenged along the edge of the penalty area before thumping the ball into the net. Thackley countered almost immediately, Brice Tiani firing over after he was allowed progress within shooting distance. Matt Convey, in the home goal, saved firstly from Bernard, then from Ryan Blott's head before Scarborough scored their second on eleven minutes. Bill Law made a good run down the right, his cross was long and was fired back across goal by James Ghaichem, Joe Naylor rose to head past Convey. Two minutes later and it was three, again it came from Law down the right, this time he found Blott on the edge of the six yard box, Convey got a hand to his shot but could not stop it entering the net. Scarborough were dominant, whenever Thackley got the ball they closed them down and the home side were forced into giving it away. Thackley managed to get into the away side's box with a couple of hopeful crosses which did not bother Kevin Martin, in the away goal. Two long range efforts from Gary Hepples and Blott were wide of the goal as Scarborough went looking for the fourth goal. The away side were controlling midfield, Thackley could not get hold of the ball, on the few occasons they did, they lost it and never threatened the Seadogs goal. With just moments to go to the break Scarborough increased their lead, it came from a corner on the right, Naylor once again rising above the defence to head Paddy Miller's kick past a despondent Convey. The half time whistle went almost immediately after the restart, it had been a one sided first half and no one could argue with the score line.

Whilst the large Scarborough contingent in the crowd were looking forward to more goals, the Thackley supporters were hoping that their side could at least compete in the SECOND HALF. Both teams made changes before the restart. Frank Belt replaced David Kemp for the visitors, whilst Cameron Lyn and Deroy White replaced James Firth and Ben Hardy, who was injured as the referee blew for half time. Bernard was first to show that Scarborough were not going to sit on their four goal lead, turning in the box and firing just wide of the upright. A couple of minutes later Dean Walters managed to get a shot at goal from the edge of the box but it too was wide. Ten minutes into the half and Blott found himself through on goal but he fired straight at Convey. He then put Bernard in the clear, but the Seadogs striker stumbled and Paul Whiteley cleared. Josh McClean replaced Walters for the home side. Scarborough then had a penalty appeal turned down, Tom Higman chased Blott into the box, the Scarborough front man went to ground a little too easily and the referee waved for play to continue. Scarborough made two more substitutions, Dean Windass and Brenton Leister for Bernard and Hepples. With fifteen minutes to go, the Dennyboys could have reduced the arrears, substitute Lyn did well down the right, he crossed in front of goal, Chris Davey, arriving late, got his boot to the ball but it flew over the bar. Brice Tiani had a tame shot stopped by Martin, before the home goal had another narrow escape. Tony Hackworth's head on from a corner found Blott at the far post, the Scarborough front man could not control his header and the ball went dead. With just under ten minutes of the match remaining, the Seadogs scored the final goal of the afternoon, Blott firing into the top corner from the edge of the box. Thackley did muster a couple of half chances in the final minutes but nothing that tested Martin and the match ended with the home side soundly beaten.

It had been a very disappointing display by the Dennyboys, they failed to match their east coast opponents in any position all afternoon, a match perhaps to forget about.

Tuesday gives them the opportunity to put this match behind them when Hall Road Rangers are the visitors, Thackley need to take all three points from that game to restore some team confidence.

FANTASTIC ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE AS BORO WIN 5-0 AWAY AT THACKLEY.

Boro were a completely different class to their West Yorkshire based opponents today, no disrespect to Thackley who are a decent side, but today they could not live with the brilliance of Boro.
After today's performance I cannot imagine Rudy leaving Gary Hepples out of his future starting line-up's, once again Gary was my man of the match, he rightly regained his place today at the expense of Dean Windass, who was on the subs bench.
Every player played his part today and I for one cannot wait for the Parkgate game on Tuesday evening, we have learnt lessons from previous games against this shambolic team and on Tuesday I think the football will do the talking.
Back to today's game, and what a fantastic performance it was, it took Curtis Bernard less than 60 seconds to put us into the lead, his rocket of a shot left Thackley 'keeper Matt Convey with no chance, and just 10 minutes later Boro doubled their lead as good work from Bill Law on the right wing lead to Joe Naylor heading in Boro's 2nd goal and the first of his brace in this game.
Just 2 minutes later Ryan Blott grabbed Boro's 3rd goal, once again the goal originated from Bill Law on the right , it was all one - way traffic and already we knew it was just a matter of how many goals we would eventually win by.
Just before half time Boro did in fact find the back of the Thackley net for the fourth time, Joe Naylor getting his second of the game.Joe headed home brilliantly from a Paddy Miller corner.
Half time 0-4.
Dave Kemp had picked up a knock in the first half and was replaced by Frank Belt for the second half, but this did not deter Boro in any way and the half continued much the same as the first 45 minutes, it was all Boro, Thackley had a couple of chances, but nothing to concern us too much, Kev Martin although not having a lot to do in the Boro goal was in control when he was called into action, and his distribution was as usual excellent.
Somehow Thackley held out until the 82nd minute before Boro added their 5th and final goal, and it was a super goal when it came from Ryan Blott.
Ryan beat a Thackley defender and blasted a shot high into the top corner of the Thackley goal.
It could so easily have been double figures today for Boro, Roll on Tuesday and the trip to Parkgate.

Former Hull City 1st year pro, Nick also played at football league level with Rushden & Diamonds, he joined us last season from our rivals and landlords Bridlington Town, but after suffering a broken bone playing against Parkgate, he left the club.

Just read this article from the Thackley website, Looks like they are looking forward to our visit on Saturday.

Whilst there is still the League Cup to play for, the mantra of "concentrating on the league" is perhaps uppermost in Thackley minds as they look forward to entertaining Scarborough Athletic on Saturday.
Scarborough are very new to the NCEL having been accepted only as recently as 2007. They have of course had a previous existence (as Scarborough FC) under which guys (yes, I know, but it is plot night!)they played in the Northern Premier League, the Football Conference, the Football League and the Conference again until, in 2007, that club went into liquidation.
Scarborough Athletic arose in true Phoenix fashion from the ashes of the defunct club, applied for admission to the NCEL and were accepted into Division 1 at the start of season 2007/08. They finished that first season in 5th place but the following year gained promotion as champions by 14 points.
This is the Seadogs' third season in the Premier Division. In their two completed seasons to date, whilst they may not have set the world alight, they finished a respectable 5th position in 2009/10 (one place and 6 points behind Thackley) and 10th spot last season, two places behind Thackley.
There have only been two league meetings between Thackley and Scarborough at the Dennyfield, and both matches went Thackley's way. The Dennyboys won 4-2 in season 2009/10 with goals from Rob Morgan, Harry Thompson, Nicky Matthews and Ross Daly. Last season, in a much tighter game, Thackley took the points with a screamer of a volley from Matt Morgan on 87 minutes sealing the 1-0 victory.
Athletic currently occupy 4th place in the league with 24 points from their 10 games to date and a goal difference of +18. However, following Staveley's defeat at Arnold earlier in the week, Scarborough are potentially the league leaders if they are able to win their games in hand over those above them.
Thackley's position is slightly different. Following an indifferent and inconsistent start to the season they now sit in 7th spot with 22 points and a goal difference of +10 from their 12 matches. The Dennyboys have lost only 2 games but have drawn 4.
Is a draw a point won, or two points dropped? Three of Thackley's draws have come against sides from the lower reaches of the league and would probably be considered as six points dropped. The other match, at Bridlington could be considered as a point won. What is obvious is that Thackley need to start winning more, and capitalising on their frequent superior possession ratio as against the opposition.
The Seadogs' manager was apparently a spectator at the Dennyboys' midweek defeat at the hands of Armthorpe in the WRCC. As Steve Paley said in his report on that match, Rudi will not have been too worried by what he saw. Scarborough will come to Thackley full of confidence and will start as very short odds favourites. It is up to the Dennyboys to overturn the odds and to show that they are not easy pickings. They can do that but will need to improve on recent performances, especially on the approach to and in the opposition goal area.

Scarborough Athletic travel to the West Riding on Saturday, where Thackley will be their hosts.
Thackley (The Dennyboy's) will be looking forward to a run of 5 consecutive home league fixtures, ours being the first.
Following the game against Boro on Saturday, the Dennyboy's will entertain Hall Road Rangers, Bridlington Town, Armthorpe Welfare, who incidentally knocked them out of the WRC Cup last night thanks to a 35th minute own goal from James Firth.
They end their run of 5 home games on Saturday 19th November when Retford Town will be their visitors.
Thackley are presently in 7th position in the league table with 22 point's from 12 starts.
Boro fans will probably outnumber the home fans on Saturday as this is a fairly short journey along the A64 for us and the home fans usually number just double figures, so a good atmosphere can be expected.

Scarborough Athletic moved up two places into 4th position of the league table thanks to their last gasp winner at home to Hall Road Rangers yesterday.That game I predicted correctly.
Bridlington Town won 3-1 away to Long Eaton United, I guessed that would be a very close game and forecast a draw.
I said Parkgate and Stavely would produce a boring low scoring game and share the points, the outcome was a 2-2 draw.
My prediction for the Barton Town game was correct, Town won 5-0.
I was correct with the Tadcaster result as they easily beat Lincoln Moorlands Railway and finally the Retford v Arnold game was a 1-1 draw and I did expect Retford to win narrowly.
So not too bad 4 out of 6.

AT A VERY WINDY QUEENSGATE SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC STUTTERED TO A 2-1 VICTORY AGAINST A FAIRLY CAPABLE LOOKING HALL ROAD RANGERS OUTFIT.
BORO STARTED THE GAME IN A CONVINCING MANNER BUT THIS ROBUST START WAS TO BE SHORTLIVED AS IT WAS RANGERS WHO WOULD HAVE THE LIONS SHARE OF POSSESSION THROUGHOUT THE OPENING FORTY FIVE MINUTES.
BUT IN SPITE OF THEIR POSSESSION THEY NEVER ACTUALLY THREATENED THE BORO GOAL, AS THE BORO DEFENCE HELD FIRM AND AGAINST THE STRONG WIND PLAYED THEMSELVES OUT OF TROUBLE TIME AND TIME AGAIN.
BORO FRONT MEN BLOTT AND BERNARD HAD A FRUSTRATING TIME AS THEY GOT VERY LITTLE SERVICE AND THE INCLUSION OF WINDASS IN THE STARTING ELEVEN WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL.
WE MISSED THE BITE OF GARY HEPPLES IN MIDFIELD, HE WOULD BE IN MY STARTING LINE UP EVERY TIME, AND BILL LAW DID NOT HAVE THE SPACE HE NORMALLY HAS.
ANYWAY, RANGERS GOT THEMSELVES A DISPUTED DIRECT FREE KICK TOWARDS THE END OF THE HALF, AND THEY SCORED THE OPENING GOAL FROM THAT KICK.
THE BALL SAILED OVER THE BORO DEFENSIVE WALL AND BEAT KEV MARTIN IN THE BORO GOAL, TO BE FAIR TO MARTIN, IT WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE SHOTS WHICH WOULD HAVE BEATEN MOST GOALKEEPERS.AS SOON AS IT WAS HIT, YOU JUST KNEW THAT IT WAS GOING TO GO HIGH INTO THE OPPOSITE CORNER OF THE GOAL.
SO HALF TIME ARRIVED WITH BORO 1-0 DOWN.
THINGS WOULD PROBABLY IMPROVE IN THE 2nd HALF AS BORO WOULD HAVE THE WIND BEHIND THEM.

Boro are presently in 7th position of the NCEL Premier division, all the 6 teams above us are in action tomorrow .Top placed side Retford are at home to Arnold Town and I would expect them to extend their lead at the top of the table by taking all 3 points from this game.
Our landlords Bridlington Town are in 2nd place and have a fairly difficult trip to Long Eaton Utd, I can see this game ending in a draw, 3rd placed Stavely, who I found very disappointing after watching them sneak 3 points at Pickering Town last week travel to 5th placed Parkgate to take part in what will probably be a dour game with not many goals and very little in the form of entertainment, could be another draw.
Tadcaster in 4th place should take the points in their home clash with Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Finally 6th placed Brighouse Town have a hard task away to Barton Town OB, I expect Barton to take the 3 points on offer.
Boro of course are home to Hall Road Rangers and will be favourites in this game.
I don't usually forecast games in this way, I hope I don't embarrass myself too much at 5.45 pm tomorrow.

Hall Road Rangers manager Martin Thacker is facing a real problem following goalkeeper Adam Nicklin's decision to return to his former club North Ferriby United.
Nicklin has teamed up again with former boss Billy Heath, who himself departed Rangers to take over at Ferriby.
So, Rangers have no recognised goalkeeper on their 1st team books and will be bringing someone new in for the fixture at Queensgate tomorrow.
Another Rangers player, Scott Turner also left the club today, he has joined Barnsley based club Worsbrough Bridge and Danny Clarke also left the club a couple of weeks back to join up with Billy Heath at North Ferriby.
There should be a big Queensgate crowd tomorrow as Boro try to put last weeks Parkgate pantomime behind them and return to winning ways where it matters the most which is the NCEL Premier division, 3 points tomorrow could see Boro leap to 2nd place in the table, depending on other results of course.

GREAT RESPONSE FROM "BORO" BOSS FOLLOWING DISGRACEFUL PERFORMANCE FROM REFEREE AT PARKGATE.

Following the diabolical refereeing from Mr D Hunt, which cost us dearly at Parkgate last Saturday, Boro boss Rudy Funk gave his opinions on the day in the local paper, here is the article which I think just sums up the true feelings held by everyone connected to the club, I honestly think that we are been targeted as a club, unfairly so, and I speak as an ex referee when I say that the officials in this league are mainly very poor, and generally just not up to the standards required.

SCARBOROUGH Athletic boss Rudy Funk threw his weight behind the club after last weekend’s problem at Parkgate.

Boro picked up seven cards from referee David Hunt in the FA Vase defeat, including reds for both Ryan Blott and Gary Hepples.

Hunt said after the game that he would be reporting the players, the management and fans to the authorities, all for violent conduct, much to the dissapointment of boss Funk.

The Boro chief said: " It broke my heart when I spoke to him after the game because he said that he would be reporting the players, management and fans for violent conduct.

" Theis despite the fact that he didn’t say anything to me during the game that was played in a nice manner.

" This is the same referee that at Lincoln Moorlands gave us three yellow cards for nothing.

" We have had compiment after compliment for our conduct from officials this season. In fact we have just had one yellow card in 270 minutes of football prior to Saturday

" Up until the 23rd minute everything was fine, but then he lost the plot. Both Parkgate’s manager and their skipper came up to me afterwards and said that one bad decision (the sending off of Blott) ruined the game.

" It is true that referees do have a hard job, but Mr Hunt didn’t help himself when he started smirking at the fans.

" These fans are great, their banter is good and they are never nasty.

" I am a manager that travels to more matches than most, and I mean right throughout the football pyramid.

" I have seen some nasty fans and nasty secenes , if people want to come and see this they want to travel around with me. It certainly isn’t the case at Scarborough Athletic.

Funk aded: " The best quote I heard after the game was from Dean Windass, who said that he has never seen such togetherness at a club.

" This whole thing should galvanise us even more as a club. Eveyone needs to get together.

" We have a feelgood factor at this club, we can’t let anyone destroy it."

Along with the Scarborough Evening News, Scarborough Athletic FC are offering a "Kids for a quid" day on Saturday at the Boro v Hall Road Rangers NCEL Premier division fixture at Queensgate, Bridlington.
Anyone under 16 will be admitted to the game for just £1.

Fans travelling from Scarborough can take advantage of the usual Boro bus which leaves the Railway station at 1.30pm, picking up along the route at Falsgrave, Crossgates, Eastfield and Cayton before arriving at Queensgate around 2.15pm.
The fare is just £2 return for adults and only £1 for kids.
The club are even talking about laying on an extra "family bus" depending on demand.
Kid's will also have the opportunity of taking part in a pre-match penalty shoot-out.

Boro return to league action on Saturday when Hull based Hall Road Rangers visit Queensgate for what should be a very entertaining game
Rangers are in mid table on 16 point's from their 10 starts, following the Ranger's game we will then travel to Thackley the following Saturday and then a game I am really looking forward to, a return trip to Parkgate, this time for the league fixture, hopefully this time they will try to play the game of football and hopefully the league may have someone observing this game following the shambolic events there yesterday.
We then hit the road again with a trip to Retford the following Saturday, November 12th.

CHEATING PARKGATE AND CLUELESS OFFICIALS.

Boro's progress in the FA Vase was halted by a combination of cheating opponents and a referee (Mr D Hunt) who should not be allowed anywhere near a football pitch again after this performance.

I am used to seeing inept officials in this league, but yesterday's was I have been told by many fans the worst yet to officiate a Boro game.

I was not at the game and I would not normally post about such things when I was not present to witness it all first hand.

But this is an exception, Parkgate players were diving throughout the game , trying to win free kicks and see Boro players receive bookings and worse.

This referee was oblivious to the Parkgate game plan, he was intimidated by the Parkgate players, he wrongly sent off two Boro players, therefore spoiling the whole game as a spectacle for both sets of fans, and laughingly booked Scott Phillips for taking off his shirt as he was leaving the field of play after the final whistle had been blown.

Yesterday as I could not make the game I decided to take in the Pickering v Stavely game instead, the referee there who is well known in this area is another case of someone simply not up to the job, he likes to be heard and has conversations with the players and he obviousely thinks he is a better ref than he actually is and considers the players his pals, how wrong can he be, he just should not be officiating at this level either , but the clown at Parkgate is apparently the very worst yet.

I am hoping that SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC as a club will complain to the hierarchy of the NCEL about the actions yesterday of both the Parkgate club and the Refereee, it is time that something be done regarding the standard of refereeing in this league.

UNABLE TO MAKE 'VASE' TRIP SO TOOK IN PIKES v STAVELEY MW.

Unable to make the trip to Parkgate, I decided to go to the Pickering Town v Stavely Miners Welfare game at a sunny Pickering FC.
The sun may have been shining, but it was the only thing to shine as this was a dour game of football played out by two mediocre teams with little passing ability.
Boro old boy Colin Appleton was present in the ground, he must have been mighty unimpressed at the standard shown today also.
Welfare took the lead with a penalty in the 24th minute and the score stayed 1-0 up to half time.
The tea and sausage rolls which I purchased in the excellent clubhouse made up a little for the poor football dished up so far.
Pikes came out for the 2nd half and Stuart Price equalised for his side about 4 minutes into the re-start, but the joy of the home fans was short lived as terrible defending by the Pikes lead to Welfare regaining their lead just 5 minutes later, Ryan Damms scoring his 2nd and his teams 2nd goal of the match.
The end finally came with the score still 2-1 to Welfare
Today's victory for Welfare sees them in a very commanding 3rd place in the table with 3 games in hand over leaders Retford United and a defecit of just 2 points.
Thanks to Boro being involved in their FA Vase game today and following the outcomes of other results we have slipped to 6th place, but like Welfare we have played just 9 games and we are only 4 point's behind the leaders.

The Steelmen welcome the Seadogs to Roundwood as Dean Windass is confirmed in the squad for the visitors.

There'll be a cracking atmosphere at Roundwood tomorrow as Scarborough bring their big following and new signing Dean Windass to town.

Windass has signed for the Seadogs and has agreed to play when TV commitments allow.

Doug Shelley has also been busy in the transfer market and has signed a few new players including goalkeeper Jamie Bailey. Shelley's men have proved time and time again that they can play on the big stage so tomorrow's game should be a beauty!

Like many Boro fans I was looking forward to seeing Dean Windass in a Boro shirt today, and as I arrived at the ground I was told that Dean was in fact included in today's Boro' squad.
The Boro starting line up was Martin, Winters, Miller, Kemp, Hackworth, Naylor, Law, Hepples, Blott, Bernard, Ghaichem.
So, a really good starting line up to face the bottom placed team in the league, but in spite of constant Boro opportunities over the whole 90 minutes this never became a high scoring game.
It took just two minutes before a fantastic effort from Bill Law smashed against the Town goalpost following a finger tip save from Town 'keeper Barford.
Boro' attacked non stop, Blott had three clear chances which all failed to hit the target but in the 32nd minute the deadlock was finally broken when Curtis Bernard headed the ball home following a cross from Bill Law.
Boro almost doubled their lead a minute later when Ryan Blott's terrific long range effort was pushed onto the crossbar by Barford who was by far the busiest man on the pitch.
But the 2nd goal did come after just a few more minutes and it was Bernard again, this time he received the ball some 20 yards out from goal and controlled it expertly sending a dipping , curving shot past Barford, high into the top left corner of the goal.
This goal could be a contender for goal of the season, Boro' continued to press but had to be content with 2-0 lead as the half time whistle blew.
The 2nd half continued in much the same way, I had one eye on the bench hoping to see boss Rudy Funk getting ready to give Dean Windass a run out, and finally with about 30 minutes remaining the change came, although why Rudy took Bernard off I could not understand, but we were finally about to see Deano take to the field.
His class showed straight away as Deano sprayed some excellent passes across the width of the pitch, he picked team mates out effortlessly with precision passing and he almost scored himself, but Barford saved excellently from him, the game continued with Boro's domination but the finishing touch just wasn't there, on another day Blott could have scored 5 goals himself, but today was not to be his day, still a fantastic all round performance by all the players, if I were to name a man of the match then for me it would have to be Curtis Bernard, he was on fire today and a special mention also for Gary Hepples who gave his all as usual until being replaced by Scott Phillips on the hour.
Dare I say the word 'championship', Yes I dare because this was a championship winning performance.

NARROW THACKLEY VICTORY BRINGS UNBEATEN RUN TO AN END.

Thackley beat Scarborough Athletic 1-0 today at Dennyfield, the same scoreline as the Boro home fixture way back in October when Thackley striker Matt Mather got the only goal of the game on the day, not many teams will do the double over Boro, but we did get a bit of revenge over them as we knocked them out of the Presidents cup at the 2nd round stage on their ground in January.
Both Thackley and Boro are jointly on 41points following today's game, Boro's great 6 match unbeaten run has ended and now everyone is looking forward to the derby fixture against Bridlington Town on Tuesday evening when we can hopefully bounce back with a win over our rivals.

'BORO' 3 WINTERTON RANGERS 1, THE UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A strong performance by Boro on a cold Queensgate night ensured victory and put us another 3 points nearer the top of the league.

Man of the match, Gary Hepples.

Boro were by far the better team and after 20 minutes or so Gary Hepples, who would be my choice for 'man of the match' tonight opened the scoring, he and the Rangers 'keeper both went for a 50-50 ball and thankfully the ball ended up in the Rangers goal.
Graham Botham also had an excellent game and played some neat passes through the Rangers midfield and defence, but in spite of their dominance Boro had to settle for the 1-0 lead at half time.
2nd half it was still Boro who looked the most likely to score again and Ryan Blott had a terrific shot on target to double the score to 2-0.
Bill Law who had worked hard all game deservedly got his name on the scoresheet to make the score 3-0 which was a fair reflection on how the game had gone, but Rangers did manage to score a consolation goal when following a free kick everyone seemed to stand and watch as the ball went through everybody and straight into the net at the far post, Tom Woodhead in the Boro goal was unsighted but the defence should have dealt with the shot.
But a 3-1 victory against Winterton means that the unbeaten run is now 6 games.
Next is a trip to Thackley on Saturday and then the derby fixture with Bridlington Town next Tuesdasy evening.

5 VICTORIES ON THE BOUNCE FOR 'BORO' FOLLOWING WIN OVER SELBY TOWN.

Not a great performance today, but all the same 3 valuable points and a reasonable crowd considering the weather.
  Town had their chances and were the better team for much of the 1st half and it was thanks to a Gary Hepples goal line clearance that Town did not take an earlier lead than their 22nd minute opener.
  Boro captain Denny Ingram limped off after just 12 minutes, after injuring himself in a tackle.
  Liam Davis opened the scoring for Town after he was played through by a team-mate, he had just 1 Boro defender to beat before slotting the ball past Tom Woodhead in the Boro goal.
  It was almost a half hour before Boro had a reasonable chance of their own, but Ryan Blott's effort was saved by Town 'keeper Jody Barford.
  Boro were struggling on a difficult pitch and things seemed to be getting worse when in the 35th minute Frank Belt had to be replaced by youngster Josh Clayton, this was just the 2nd game for Josh in a Boro shirt.

  As half time approached with most of the crowd unhappy at the 1st half performance Boro scored a dramatic equaliser, Richard Dunning hit a beautiful shot which left Barford in the Town goal with no chance whatsoever of getting his hands anywhere near the ball.
  So half time arrived with Boro maybe feeling a little lucky at been on level terms with their opponents.
  The 2nd half got under way and both sides had chances as the game seemed to have picked up a little, Tom Woodhead in the Boro goal made a couple of really excellent saves, then in the 60th minute Boro made their final substitution when Richard Medcalf replaced Joel Hartley. Meddy
  Richard Dunning almost got his 2nd goal of the game following the substitution but his shot hit the woodwork and went to safety, but yet again Town responded by going to the other end and almost scoring themselves, one effort in particular was goal bound before it was deflected for a corner by the Boro defence.
  In the 75th minute of the game Ryan Blott received the ball in what appeared to be an offside position, but he was allowed to continue and his pass to Richard Medcalf resulted in 'Meddy' scoring the winning goal for Boro.

So, not a great spectacle but the excellent run put together by the team continues and we have another home game to look forward to on Tuesday night when Winterto Rangers will be visitors to Queensgate.Could it be 6 out of 6 for the Boro ?

Scarborough Athletic host Selby Town tomorrow at Queensgate, this should be an interesting game, Town manager Gary Paton will be looking for his first win with his new club, then 3 day's later on Tuesday evening Winterton Rangers will be our visitors.
Rangers are having a good spell just now having progressed further in the League cup with a 3-1 victory away to Appleby Frodingham on Wednesday night and previous to that game they had a 4-1 home victory over neighbours Hall Road Rangers and this was after another impressive victory, this time it was away to high flying Parkgate, where Rangers won a close encounter by 4 goals to3.
So Tuesday night under the Queensgate floodlights should see a really entertaining game of football and a good performance and result tomorrow against Selby Town should guarantee another excellent crowd which will hopefully include a few Rangers fans as they have a fairly short trip from just across the Humber bridge.

FUTURE LOOKING GOOD FOR SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC U-19's

Next Friday evening will see Scarborough Athletic U-19's get into action for the first time as the newly formed team will travel to Bishop Burton College to face Bridlington Town U-19's.
  The club are still trying to find a suitable floodlit venue which will enable them to enter the Northern Alliance league next season.
  They have the current North Riding FA U-16's coach, Steve Dorey in charge of the team and he has been working hard for months now bringing in players and getting the team to their present standard.
  They are currently training alongside the Scarborough Athletic Reserve team players.
  So good luck to the boys for next week.

ARNOLD v BORO POSTPONED BUT 3 GAMES WENT AHEAD LAST NIGHT

Yet another postponment for Scarborough Athletic, but three games did go on last night, the pick of them was probably the Selby Town v Bridlington Town game, Selby had a new manager in Gary Paton following Mick Gray's departure which he states was down mainly to unfair criticism in the local press, all I can say to that is that if he had been manager here at Boro then he would have probably have left after a very short spell at the club, as the local paper here is hopeless as far as sport is concerned, our usual reporter has a stronger alliance with a team some 20 miles inland and I do not understand how his so called reports ever get printed, also the remarks on the Surfing seadog forum from a handful of fans who seem to consider themselves to be the voice of the club are enough to make most genuine fans embarrassed, lose a couple of games and there are the usual calls to string the manager up etc, win a couple and the manager is the best thing since sliced bread, we must have the most fickle fans in the league, just as the old club had a few seasons ago.
Anyway, Bridlington Town went to Selby last night looking for 3 points to keep up the pressure on their rivals at the top of the table and they won the game in style by 4 goals to 1, Steve Lyon opened the scoring for Brid' in the 30th minute and a Gareth Owen double in the 79th and 82nd minutes made the score 3-1 before 'old faithful' Phil Harrison added the 4th Brid' goal of the game.
The other 2 games last night saw Brighouse Town lose 2-1 at home to Liversedge and the other game ended in a 4-1 defeat for Tadcaster Albion at Thackley.

TADCASTER ALBION IN LAST-GASP WIN AT PICKERING TOWN.

Tadcaster Albion beat Pickering Town with two goals in the dying minutes. Pickering were 2-1 up when in the 88th minute Albion's Marc Thompson equalised for his team and then in the final minute Albion were awarded a penalty and Carl Stewart stepped up and hit the winning goal for Albion.
At Queensgate Bridlington Town kept up the pressure on Farsley and Parkgate at the top of the table as they defeated Maltby Main 4-2, Town took the lead in the 2nd minute and never looked in danger of losing the match, ex Scarborough Athletic players were on target for Town, Craig Hogg scored from the penalty spot on 21 minutes and late in the game Scott Phillips scored the 4th goal for Town.
The only other Premier game of the day was at Armthorpe were the hosts were soundly beaten by Lincoln Moorlands Railway 8-2, Railway were actually 5-1 up by half time.
Tommorow night Scarborough Athletic travel to Arnold Town, memories of the 4-4 draw at Queensgate are still fresh in my memory, Boro were 4-0 up but ended up with the draw, Town grabbing their final goal with practically the last kick of the game.

SCARBOROUGH LADIES U'16's LEADING THE WAY IN CITY OF YORK GIRL'S FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

Not much action for the Boro thanks to waterlogged pitches again, so I thought I would give a mention of the excellent Scarborough Under 16's girls team who play in the 'City of York Girl's football league'.
  Last week the team increased their lead at the top of the league with an excellent 10-1 victory over their opponents 'Tockwith'.
  Chantel Padgham opened the scoring for the Boro girl's and Lucy Ambler doubled the score soon after, Gem Brady scored number three before Chantelle scored her second of the game, Boro were now 4-0 up when Chantelle now sent Lucy Ambler through on goal and she made no mistake in scoring goal number five.
  Boro then went 6-0 up thanks to Simone Stephenson's first goal for the club, soon after Chloe Bennett added to Tockwith's woes when she scored the Boro's 7th goal.
  Lucy Ambler then secured a brilliant first half hat-trick with her 3rd and her teams 8th goal.
  After the re-start Chantel Padgham completed her own hat-trick after following up on a partially saved shot from Gem Braduy, Tockwith did not give up though and they pulled a goal back, but the Boro pressure continued and surely enough double figures were reached when Dani Kendrick put Chloe Bennett through allowing her to score her second goal of the game , and give Boro a terrific 10-1 victory and see them move 3 point's clear at the top of their division.

JOEL HARTLEY SECURES THRILLING 4-3 BORO VICTORY IN DYING SECONDS.

It never ceases to amaze me that Joel Hartley is hardly given the starts that he deserves in the Boro team, once again he was the saviour after coming on as a sub , and five minutes into injury time Joel scored the winning goal for Boro in a thrilling 4-3 victory.

Boro named an unchanged line up, meaning a place on the bench for new signing Nick McNamara.

The home side made the better start and Josh Schofield fired wide from a quickly taken corner, then Tom Woodhead made a great save from a header by Sean Cann.

After twenty minutes Boro broke the deadlock, Gary Hepples played a great through ball for Ryan Blott, his shot was turned behind for a corner by keeper Mario Riccardi, from the corner Law’s header was only half cleared by an under pressure Riccardi, the loose ball fell to Mike Gibson who fired home from close range.

Lincoln should have levelled soon after but Cann fired over after a great run by Nathan Adams, then Cann produced some wonderful control and a shot on the turn, but it was straight at Woodhead.

The first flash point of the game came after Riccardi dropped a shot by Blott then proceeded to fire the ball into the face of Boro’s forward, strangely he was only awarded a yellow card.

Soon after and out of the blue the home side levelled, a long ball from the back found Cann who despite looking well offside, was allowed to carry on and he easily rounded Woodhead to score.

Seven minutes into the second half, the home side took the lead, Frank Belt lost possession in a dangerous area, this allowed Cann the opportunity to carry the ball before netting via the post with Woodhead well beaten.

Boro should have levelled just after the hour mark, another great pass by Hepples released Law who rounded Riccardi, unluckily he was slightly off balance and his shot was cleared off the line by Adam Hewitt.

Soon after Boro brought on Hartley for Belt, and five minutes later Boro deservedly levelled, a long free kick was not cleared properly and Dunning ran onto the loose ball, before firing home from twenty yards.

Back came Lincoln and Woodhead produced a great save to prevent Cann from completing his hat trick, then Botham cleared off the line from the resulting corner.

Six minutes from time it looked as if Boro had finally settled this topsy-turvy game, when Chris Jenkinson rose like a salmon to majestically head a Dunning free kick into the top corner.

Three minutes later it was all square again, with the home team putting a lot of pressure on Boro's back line forcing four corners in quick succession, from one of these corners, the unfortunate Hepples headed past Woodhead at the near post.

In the last minute of injury time Blott decided to take the game by the scruff of the neck as he took on the Lincoln defence single handedly, he left four players in his wake and despite literally having the shirt ripped from his back, sent a powerful shot goalwards which was only parried by Riccardi and Joel was on hand to score and give victory to the Boro.

The Boro defence will have to keep a sharp eye on Parkgate striker Ashley Worsfold tomorrow as the striker tries to help his team back to the top of the league table.
  Worsfold was on target twice in Tuesday evening's surprising 4-3 home defeat to Winterton Rangers, he also scored both Parkgate goals 3 days earlier in his teams 2-1 victory over Dinnington Town.

  Parkgate are just 1 point behind leaders AFC Farsley but they also have 1 game in hand over their Leeds based rivals.
  However, Farsley look to have 3 points safely in the bag tomorrow as they entertain bottom club Hallam, Hallam are struggling at the foot of the table with just 10 point's from their 21 starts, but there have been plenty of shock results this season, and there are no guarantees despite the obvious difference in class between the teams.

BORO SIGN TALENTED MIDFIELDER 'NICK McNAMARA FROM RIVALS BRIDLINGTON TOWN..

Scarborough Athletic have signed experienced midfielder Nick McNamara from rivals and landlord's Bridlington Town.
  Town signed Nick from Rushden and Diamonds in the pre-season. He played 10 games for Diamonds last season in the Blue Square Premier league, he had been a Diamonds player since joining them from Hull City at the end of the 2008/09 season, he played for their Reserves and Under 19's.
  His experience should be a great asset to Boro, and it is a good sign that a player of his calibre chose to sign for Boro, other club's had also shown an interest in the player.

'BORO' WIN 7-1 AWAY TO DINNINGTON TOWN.

In a very one sided game, Scarborough Athletic ran out comfortable 7-1 winners last night in South Yorkshire.Dinnington were a very poor side but that does not take anything away from what was a great team performance from the Boro.

Ryan Blott opened the scoring after just 9 minutes and Bill Law doubled the lead just 3 minutes later, Ryan struck again on 18 minutes and a whitewash looked to be on the cards.

Chris Jenkinson added the teams 4th goal after 26 minutes and Ryan Blott got his hat trick in the 38th minute.

Ryan Blott (above) scored 4 goals, while Gary Hepples (below) had a good game in midfield..

Half time came much to the relief of the Town players, and the score could so easily have been double the 5 goals scored.

Town had a disastrous start to the 2nd half as after just a couple of minutes play they fell behind further thanks to an own goal.

6-0 BECAME 7-0 WITH 10 MINUTES REMAINING, RYAN BLOTT ON TARGET AGAIN, Town did however manage a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the game, and the final score was Town 1 Boro 7.

UNCHANGED BORO BEAT STRUGGLING LIVERSEDGE 5-1

Boss Paul Olsson had the luxury of naming the same side for the second consecutive game, and also named the same five substitutes from the victory over Tadcaster Albion.

The first half was possibly the most open game of football you are likely to see, and the score at the break could have been 6-4, as both teams decided they wouldn’t play with a defence.

The first chance fell to the visitors when James Hurtley beat the offside trap, and crossed for Ben Hardy, but his shot was straight at Tom Woodhead.

Boro’s first opportunity came when Ryan Blott’s flick found Bill Law, but he couldn’t beat visiting keeper Lee Ashworth

Boro took the lead after seventeen minutes, Blott was put clear on the right, his cross intended for Law, was inadvertently turned into his own net by Darryl Leach.

The goal didn’t settle Boro and it was the visitors who came forward, albeit helped by some awful defending by the home side, who were intent on playing a high line which allowed Andrew Shuttleworth the opportunity to skip past two challenges before firing just wide.

Then a poor defensive header by Chris Jenkinson allowed the ever-dangerous Hardy to flick the ball over Boro’s centre back before volleying just over.

So it was no surprise when the equaliser finally arrived, but again it was down to some comical defending, an attack down Boro’s right, ended with three Liversedge players totally unmarked, and it was left to Hardy to run in on goal before easily beating Woodhead.

It could have been worse three minutes later, when Hardy again had the freedom of Queensgate, only a goal-line clearance by Mike Gibson kept the scores level.

Boro decided it was their turn to attack, and they won a penalty five minutes before half time, Blott was blatantly tugged back by Corry Larkin, before being hacked down by the same player, leaving the referee no option to point to the spot, unfortunately Blott’s kick was superbly turned away by Ashworth.

Boro did retake the lead two minutes later; a Richard Dunning in swinging free kick was left by everyone apart from the onrushing Jenkinson who tapped in from two yards out.

Back came Liversedge and Hardy must still be wondering how he didn’t score when clean through with only Woodhead to beat, then Law’s first touch up the other end let him down when faced with an open goal.

Boro ended the craziest of halves by scoring again, right on time, Blott was put through from midfield and he ran unmarked before smashing the ball past Ashworth.

Both managers must have told their players at the break that it was eleven a side they were playing, as this half was a much more sedate affair, with Boro always in command.

Blott was unlucky early on when he played a neat one-two with Frank Belt; his shot was turned over by full back Gareth Saville.

Boro made two changes midway through the half with Joel Hartley replacing Brenton Leister and Rich Medcalf coming on for Law, and it was Medcalf who secured the points with a late brace.

His first came when Jenkinson intercepted a through ball carried it forward before playing in Medcalf, who then ran forward before sending a sublime chip over Ashworth into the top corner.

Then Hartley released Dunning who crossed for “Meddy” to head in at the near post, in between these two goals Belt let fly with a blistering shot from the edge of the area that lifted Ashworth off his feet.

Scarborough Athletic beat Tadcaster Albion 1-0 in their local derby at Queensgate last night, I had to be content with listening to the game on Seadogs live along with around 80 other liseners. It was Ryan Blott who grabbed the all important goal for Boro and it was a special goal for Ryan as it was his 100th from his 125 appearances for the club. So congratulations go to Ryan, and with another home game on Saturday to look forward to, let's hope this will be the start of a good run of form for the club.

EX 'BORO' STRIKER ALMOST KNOCKS MAN CITY OUT OF FA CUP AT MEADOW LANE.

Notts County and former Scarborough FC player Neal Bishop gave Notts County an early lead against big spenders, Manchester City in todays FA Cup 4th round tie at Meadow Lane.
County played well and were well worth their lead but City did eventually scrape back an equalising goal and now County will have to face City at their place in the replay.

Our next 2 games are both at Queensgate so we have a good chance of picking up some much needed points. On Tuesday we entertain 4th placed Tadcaster Albion, they have an excellent away record so far having lost only once on their travels and scoring 19 goals in their 9 games, so this will not be an easy game by any means but with home advantage and a near full squad to choose from I expect us to win the game.

Following the Tadcaster game 4 day's later we will be facing Liversedge, again at Queensgate, 'Sedge are struggling in 3rd bottom position and their away record is won 1, drawn 3, and lost 6, they have scored 9 goals against 20, we should be looking at 3 point's from that encounter but nothing is certain the way the team are playing this season, but 6 point's are not beyond the teams capabilities.

Scarborough Athletic's trip to Dinington Town has been called off because of overnight frost in South Yorkshire, so I thought I would take the 10 minute walk up the road to watch the Reserves in their Humber league match against North Cave, as I passed the ground on my way home from Scarborough earlier I noticed the nets were in place and I was looking forward to the game, but I have checked on the official website and found that this game has also been cancelled because of frost, strange decision really as the sun is shining, the frost has gone and the game had a 2.00 pm kick off and so would have been over before the cold evening began to set in, so it will be the live FA Cup match at tea time now.

GEOFF WITH 'SNAPPER'

Well known Dinnington Town stalwart Geoff Harris sadly passed away on January 3rd, Geoff had been a well known figure at the club for many years along with his dog 'Snapper'.
Geoff was always happy to chat with opposing fans and just loved the game, and I am sure he will be badly missed at the club, I remember talking with Geoff at the game against Boro in 2008, we were beaten 4-2 on the day by a very good Dinnington team.
This paragraph from the clubs website really says it all for me:
"Football is a great game, but it's not all about sport, it's about the people you meet on the way, Geoff will be missed by us all".

Nostell 3 BORO' 1

This game just about summed up Boro’s season so far, as they again tasted a defeat on the road, this time against Nostell Miners Welfare, despite dominating a vast majority of the game.

There were two changes from the victory over Arnold Town; Brenton Leister came in for the departed Nathan Hotte, and Bill Law played due to Richard Dunning being stuck in traffic.

Nostell kicked off on a pitch that looked more akin to a ploughed field, and they created the first chance after six minutes that should have led to the opening goal, a mistake by Graham Botham gave Frank Zalo the chance to round James Hitchcock, but with the goal begging to be filled, he somehow fired well past the post.

That was about it for Nostell for the next twenty minutes as they were totally outplayed by Boro, unfortunately the chances created couldn't be converted into goals, the first chance came after a great through ball by Botham released Law down the left, his cross found Ryan Blott but his shot only found the midriff of keeper Gavin Ansley, then a great run and cross by Frank Belt was nearly turned into his own net by Toby Rutter before being cleared.

Then Law fired straight at Ansley after a good ball from skipper Denny Ingram, despite all the pressure and chances it was the home side that took the lead, a good run down the right by the Zalo ended with his cross finding Jimmy Eyles who beat Hitchcock with a crisp drive from the edge of the area.

Going behind, only made Boro more determined and Chris Jenkinson headed against the bar from a Law cross, then a cross from Belt found Medcalf but he shot straight at Ansley.

It was no surprise when Boro levelled just after the half-hour, albeit with a helping hand from Ansley, a corner by Leister was dropped by the aforementioned keeper, unluckily for him, it fell to Blott who netted from close range.

The second half started with a dangerous attack by Nostell but the cross evaded everyone and went for a goal kick, Blott was then put through, but he chose to take an extra touch and his shot was saved by Ansley.

Then when a corner wasn't cleared by the Nostell defence, the ball fell to Jenkinson in acres of space, but his shot come cross was straight at Ansley.

Ten minutes from time all Boro’s good work was undone, when they fell behind after a break away by Nostell sub Elliott Thompson and Zalo.

The ball was fed eventually played back to Thompson who crossed for the unmarked Darren Rushton who tapped into an empty net.

Back came Boro and sub Joel Hartley twice left Nostell’s full back floundering before sending in dangerous crosses, which the home defence cleared.

Boro won a corner from one of these dangerous forays, but unbelievably fell further behind as they pushed more men forward looking for an equaliser, the corner was cleared leaving Rushton and Fidel Malolo in a two on one break away against Gary Hepples, the ball was played into the box, where an unfortunate slip by Hitchcock as he came out to gather, allowed Malolo to calmly walk the ball into an empty net.

Soon after the referee brought an end to proceedings with Boro’s players and management in total bewilderment on how they had lost this game, a sentiment that was shared by the Nostell bench.

I have to say something about the Sian Massey 'offside' decision. I watched the game on tv and the decision she made was excellent, to the untrained eye Raul Meireles may have looked offside as he ran through to set up Torres for a Liverpool goal, but for Gray and Keys to say the things they did was well out of order. I would imagine that 50% of the usual male linesmen would actually have wrongly given the decision as offside .I speak as someone who refereed for 6 years at local level and I know how difficult a job it is, both for referees and their assistants and the last thing they need is child-like idiots such as these two who could never do the job themselves.I would love to see Gray and Keys actually try to officiate a game and see how many mistakes the two of them make throughout the game.
Every game of football will always have dubious decisions and mistakes will be made, last night I was at the Bridlington Town v Armthorpe game and one of the 'male' linesman (assistant) missed 2 obvious offsides and the crowd let him know vocally. Sian should have been officiating at Crewe last night but she stepped down because of the controversy surrounding the Wolves game, which in my opinion was wrong, she had a brilliant game at Wolves, did nothing wrong and the football world should be backing the 25 year old to the hilt. I hope she continues to get more Premiership games, she can hold her head high and I wish her all the best in her future performances.

Tonight I intended going to watch Scarborough Athletic away at Nostell MW, but thanks to working late I now had the choice of a comfy chair by the fire and Arsenal v Ipswich on the tv or the short trip to the less glamorous surroundings of Queensgate and Bridlington Town v Armthorpe Welfare, EASY CHOICE, Queensgate it was.
Town played some attractive football and lead 1-0 at half time, they should have been 3-0 up had they taken their chances, ex Boro player Dave Kemp had a good game in defence, another ex Seadog Craig Hogg was'nt on top form though and he missed a couple of excellent chances for his team, the 2nd half did not flow like the 1st half had and Welfare had some chances themselves and to be honest right up to Town scoring their 2nd goal, the game could easily have ended 1-1, as Welfare were getting more and more into the game, Welfare were 2nd best throughout the game but just like Scarborough Athletic have done so many times this season, Town just lacked that final killer punch and it could have cost them dearly tonight, but Town remained solid and fully deserved their 2-0 victory.

Nathan Hotte has left Scarborough Athletic to join Bradford Park Avenue and will actually play some part in their game tonight against FC Halifax.
Nathan has shown excellent form for Boro, especially recently when the team has been struggling and he will be badly missed.
Rob Northern has also informed the club that he wishes to leave and does not want to be considered for future Boro matches.
We are seeing a lot of players leaving the club (good players) and seeing very little in the way of replacements.

Scarborough Athletic's match with Arnold Town has been covered in my last post, that is one game to be forgotton about in all honesty, meanwhile as the Boro fans were being bored to tears with the game at Queensgate our landlord's Bridlington Town did well to gain a point away to Armthorpe Welfare, Town were 2-0 up at half time but Leo Fortune West pulled a goal back for Welfare and then just 6 minutes from time Joe Wilcox equalised for Welfare earning his team a share of the points.
  Brighouse Town were well beaten 5-0 at home by Maltby Main.
  Winterton Rangers were another side to throw away a 2-0 interval lead, they were away to Long Eaton and the home sides Shaun Rickford scored in the 63rd and 78th minute to earn his side a point.
  Farsley AFC continue d their indifferent form with another defeat, this time away to Parkgate, Ashley Worsfold opening the scoring for Parkgate in the 19th minute only for Farsley's Roy Stamer to equalise just 2 minutes later. Parkgate again took the lead thanks to Nathan Swindells and a further goal in the 2nd half from early scorer Worsfold. Roy Starmer did find a 2nd goal for Farsley in the 74th minute but Parkgate held on for their victory and 3 precious points which now sees them 1 point above Farsley at the top of the table and a massive 3 games in hand over their rivals.
  Robbie Hawkes rescued a late win for Pickering Town with his 90th minute goal against Nostell MW and in the only other game from yesterday another late goal decided the outcome of the Selby Town v Lincoln Moorlands Railway match as Selby's Adam Lee scored his teams winning goal in their 2-1 victory in the 89th minute.
  Scarborough Athletic travel to Nostell MW on Tuesday night for their next game.

BORO TAKE 3 POINTS IN SCRAPPY GAME WITH ARNOLD TOWN.

At a bitterly cold and windswept Queensgate Scarborough Athletic got back to winning ways, but it was painful to watch, more like a Sunday league game than an NCEL Premier fixture.
  As usual Boro squandered what few chances came their way, but in about the 40th minute of the game skipper Nathan Hotte got the ball and went on a determined run towards the Arnold goal, after skipping over desperate tackles from the Arnold defence he crossed the ball to Ryan Blott who made no mistake in putting the ball into the back of Arnold 'keeper Lance Walker's net.
  Boro seemed to step up a gear following the goal and went looking for a 2nd, but as half time arrived they had to be content with just the 1-0 lead.
  Half time couldn't have come quick enough for me, Boro maintained their lead and I headed for the tea bar, at least we would have the wind behind for us for the 2nd half, which should mean an improvement on the 1st half performance which was abysmal. It made no difference, the game became a 50 - 50 affair and even the introduction of Joel Hartley mid way through the half made little difference.

Talking to an Arnold fan towards the end, he was reasonably happy as he explained that Arnold were missing their 2 best players and no less than 5 players had left the club recently in unhappy circumstances, so to come to Queensgate and lose by just the one goal in a game which they could just as easily have won had ensured this Arnold fan was going home fairly happy, unlike most Boro fans who in spite of their victory were unhappy with the teams performance.
I am not going to even try to pick a 'man of the match', I just hope we see an improvement on Tuesday evening in the away fixture at Nostell.

Scarborough Athletic were beaten 2-0 at Selby Town on Tuesday night, one goal in each half was enough for Town to take all 3 points following a lack lustre display by the Seadogs, First half Boro played reasonably and had their chances but failed to take them, something that is becoming all too common in games,but the 2nd half saw a different performance, we played badly and could have no complaints about the final outcome.
  Top team Farsley suffered a surprising defeat at Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Farsley scored first through Ben Jones in the first half and left the field at half time with a 1-0 lead. Railway however came back in the second half and goals by John Schofield and Tom Garrick meant that Farsley lost their chance of going 5 points clear at the top of the table.
Parkgate are now just 2 points behind Farsley and also have 3 games in hand.
Tadcaster Albion moved up 3rd place thanks to a 3-1 victory away to Dinnington Town.
  Ex Boro player Dave Hartas opened the scoring for Albion.
  Our opponents in 2 day's time 'Arnold Town' picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at neighbours Long Eaton United, elsewhere the match between bottom two clubs Liversedge and Hallam ended in a 4-2 victory for Liversedge, Ben Hardy and Jamie Walsey each scoring 2 goals.

UNLUCKY BORO LOSE BY ONLY GOAL AT LEAGUE LEADERS.

Boro narrowly beaten at League leader's.

Unlucky Boro lost by the only goal of the game, as they more than held their own against league leaders Farsley AFC at a windswept Throstle Nest.

There was just one change from the midweek cup victory against Thackley. Gary Hepples replaced Dave Kemp, which meant a league debut for young keeper James Hitchcock.

Boro started the game playing into the wind, and were on the back foot immediately, they had a lucky escape after four minutes when a wind-assisted shot by Andy Cooper hit the post.

The had an even luckier escape two minutes later, when Cooper received the ball on the penalty spot with Hitchcock out of position, but with only Mike Price defending Boro’s goal, the Farsley winger only managed to fire straight at Boro left back who headed clear.

Boro were finding it hard to get going playing into a strong breeze and had to thank Hitchcock who made a smart save from Roy Stamer.

Boro finally made some in roads, and a deep cross from Hepples was headed behind for a corner.

Back came Farsley, but again Cooper was well off target, then a whipped in corner from Price just evaded Chris Jenkinson

Just before half time, Boro’s claims for a penalty were waved away by the referee, when after some good work by Ryan Blott and Rich Medcalf; Blott’s shot appeared to hit a Farsley defender on the arm/chest.

Just before the break, Boro had to thank Mike Gibson, who made a world-class tackle on Mark Betts who was clean through on goal.

The second half started with both teams looking to get a foothold in the game, Farsley’s first chance was a cross by Stamer but it was straight at Hitchcock

Then Blott had two chances, firstly a shot from distance that was grabbed at the second attempt by Tom Morgan, then probably Boro’s best chance when he cut inside Nathan Hay before letting fly from twenty-five yards, the ball whistled just the wrong side of the post.

With one goal looking like it would decide this game, it arrived fifteen minutes from time, unfortunately for Boro it went to the home side.

The referee allowed play to continue after what looked like a foul on Gibson, this allowed Gareth Grant time and space to send the ball across Boro’s six yard area to an unmarked Stamer, who fired past Hitchcock.

Immediately Boro replaced Bill Law with Joel Hartley, but the goal seemed to have knocked the stuffing out of them, and as they chased an equaliser, Farsley were able to counter attack and only some good keeping from Hitchcock and last ditch defending from Frank Belt and Chris Jenkinson kept it at one.

Boro’s last chance fell to Blott, but he fired over after a cross from late sub Rob Northen.

A tight game which was always going to be close,, and it showed how much respect the hosts had for Boro as they resorted to taking the ball into the corner for the final minutes.

Not the result we wanted and looking at the table doesn't make good reading, but there are plenty of points still left to play for, if we all get behind the lads, who showed a lot of heart today.

BORO FACE ONE HOME AND ONE AWAY GAME IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CUP COMPETITION'S.

The NCEL cup draws for the next stages of the League and President's Cups have given Boro one home tie and one away tie - although their opponents are yet to be determined.

In the league cup third round Boro will be at home against either Selby Town or first division Bottesford Town on Tuesday March 15th, 7.45pm kick-off. Selby and Bottesford play their second round game on Tuesday January 25th.

In the semi-final of the President's Cup a trip to either Farsley AFC or AFC Emley will be the journey for the Seadogs. They play on Tuesday February 1st, and if Farsley win Boro will travel to Throstle Nest on Tuesday March 22nd. If Emley win Boro will head to face the first division side on Wednesday March 23rd.

Meanwhile, Boro's away league fixture at Tadcaster has been re-arranged for Tuesday March 29th, kick-off 7.45pm.

I was as pleased as anyone could be last season when Scarborough TOWN finally shot themselves in the foot, they tried to con their way into the NCEL, even got themselves accepted but were finally thrown out because they could not keep to their assurances regarding floodlights etc.
Scarborough Athletic are a credit to the town and will be an even bigger success as they work their way up the pyramid , they will go from strength to strength, but having this 2nd team playing under the name 'Scarborough Town' can do nothing but slow down the progress of football in the town, we 'Athletic' have a loyal following and always will have, but this 2nd team will naturally steal a handful of our fans for certain games, simply because they will be playing locally and if they have an attractive fixture while we have a less attractive game on the day then a few fans will probably go to the Town game, this will have an effect on the future of the towns football, the town cannot support 2 teams, especially 2 successful teams, I hope they 'Town' will not be successful, and if they are run in the same way as before then hopefully off the field events will stop them from actually reforming.

Boro boss 'Paul Olsson believes Boro will be up to the test when they travel to leaders Farsley tomorrow.
   Farsley are 22 points above Boro but with 7 games in hand, Boro would be just 1 point behind Farsley if they were to win those games in hand.
   Paul Olsson said "It is going to be a difficult game, but we have said before that we always play well against the divisions better sides, we have beaten Bridlington Town this season and we should have won at Parkgate. I really don't think we played well against Farsley in the early stages of the season, but at the same time I didn't think they were that much better than us."
   The Boro boss was also pleased with his side's President's cup game at Thackley on Tuesday night, a game that Boro won 3-1, just days after the disappointment of the 4-4 draw with Hallam, he added "It was a nice way to bounce back because Thackley are no mugs, especially on their own patch."
   Boro will welcome Joel Hartley and Gary Hepples back into the squad tomorrow for the trip to the league leaders.

DAVE KEMP LEAVES TO JOIN RIVALS BRIDLINGTON TOWN

Just heard that "Kempinio" has left us to join our landlords and rivals Bridlington Town. All I can say is that our loss is Town's gain, Dave Kemp gave his all when he played and I think he will be badly missed, he is the type of player that we are really lacking just now, Dave won the 'Clubman of the year award' last season, he was also voted 'Player of the year' through the Scarborough evening news. I wish him all the best, but I also wish he was still a Boro player. Dave had been at the club from it's beginnings and in his 130 games played he notched up 8 goals.

Following Saturdays disaster with Hallam Boro travelled to West Yorkshire to face Thackley attempting to reach the semi final stage of the Presidents Cup.
   Nathan Hotte was captain, and Denny Ingram was on the subs' bench tonight.
   17 year old James Hitchcock made his Boro debut between the posts.
   It took just 6 minutes for Boro to take the lead, thanks to a header from Bill Law.
   Thackley tried to respond and actually hit the Boro woodwork on a couple of occasions, but Boro held firm and left the field at half time with their 1-0 lead still intact.
   Just 2 minutes into the 2nd half Saturday's hat trick hero Richard Medcalf doubled the lead for Boro, following a Ryan Blott effort which was only partly saved by Thackley 'keeper Matt Convey Meddy was on hand to slot the ball home and double the Boro lead.
   Now with Boro taking control it was time for Meddy to return the favour to Blott, this time Blott latched onto a partly saved effort from Meddy and Boro were cruising at 3-0.
   On the hour mark Thackley got themselves a consolation goal but Boro remained in control and eventually ran out 3-1 winners and guaranteed themselves a semi final encounter against either Bridlington Town or the winners of the Farsley v Emley game which takes place on Tuesday 1st February or the winners of the Tadcaster v Hemsworth game which takes place 7 days later.

Scarborough Athletic may be languishing down in 14th position of the NCEL Premier division, but we have a massive 7 games in hand over league leaders Farsley AFC, the team we play on Saturday.
  If we were to win the 7 games in hand then we would be in 2nd place just 1 point behind the leaders. Well, that is the positive way to look at the situation.

Hallam fightback

Hallam may just have pulled off a result that could well turn around their season and help them pull clear of the drop zone.

Kenny Geelan's side found themselves 4-0 down at in-form Scarborough Athletic early in the second half. But in one of the comebacks of the season the Blues scored four times in the last 20 minutes including a stoppage time equaliser to earn a 4-4 draw.

Hallam trailed a Richard Metcalf first half hat-trick and when Gary Hepples extended the lead two minutes after the interval after appearing to kick the ball out of Martin Taylor's hands, the Blues looked to be heading for a hiding.

Phil Reynolds reduced the arrears with a speculative long range effort which seemed no more than a consolation effort.

But Geelan's men had other ideas and five minutes later recent signing Jordan Turner pulled another one back with a fine finish inside the box.

A minute later central defender Lee Cooksey tapped home from close range to make it 4-3 after the Scarborough keeper had missed a cross into the box.

The home side were visibly rattled as Hallam equalised with almost the last kick of the game when Jordan got in beyond the defence to steer a shot wide of the keeper. While it wasn't enough to lift the Sandygate Road club out of the bottom two, it did put them to within three points of safety with two games in hand and will no doubt put them in good heart ahead of tomorrow's derby at Armthorpe Welfare.

It was good to actually see the Boro playing after such a long lay off because of the weather conditions, expectations were high, especially with the return of Richard Medcalf, a real class player in my book, it was disappointing to see Joel Hartley left out of the team, he was not even named as a substitute, also Dave Kemp, but Dave was at least included on the bench.I sometimes wonder just what Joel has to do to keep his place in the team.
   The game kicked off much as I had expected it would with Boro in charge and doing all the attacking, when half time finally arrived with Boro in a 2-0 lead the Hallam players must have wondered how the score was not more like 6 or 7 nil, such was Boro's dominance, but poor finishing, wasted chances and laziness in front of goal meant that Hallam were still in with a shout.
Richard Medcalf had scored Boro's first goal on 20 minutes thanks to a neat pass from striking partner Ryan Blott, chances galore fell Boro's way following their opener but it took until the 35th minute for goal number 2 to come and again it was 'Meddy' and once again Ryan Blott had a hand in the build up.
So 2-0 it was as the ref blew for half time, the standard of refereeing has not improved any since the last game, this one (Mr D Storrie) was so picky, loved to blow his whistle and lay down the law to the players but he seemed to have no real authority and I doubt any player took too much notice of his lectures.
   Boro came out for the 2nd half and I as much as the rest of the crowd were looking forward to more goals from Boro, and they did come, but no one could have imagined how the game would later turn.
   It only took Boro around 3 minutes to extend their lead and it was midfielder Gary Hepples who deservedly got the 3rd Boro goal, he works non stop and always gives 100% for the team, he was unlucky in the 1st half when he had an effort cleared off the Hallam goal-line.
  10 minutes later 'Meddy' completed his hat trick and gave Boro a 4 goal cushion, still, in spite of being 4-0 up Boro were still squandering chances but surely the game was won, Hallam did somehow manage to grab a goal back in the 69th minute, completely against the run of play, but surely it was nothing more than a consolation goal,.the Boro management certainly thought so as they brought off first star man 'Meddy' followed 2 minutes later by Ryan Blott, the 2 players who had terrorised the Hallam defence from the start, they were replaced by Bill Law and Rob Northern.The other substitution saw Gary Hepples replaced by Graham Botham 10 minutes from time, I imagine this substitution was down to fitness as Gary was having an excellent game.
   Now in a crazy period of the game when suddenly Hallam looked like scoring with every attack they could muster they had pulled another 2 goals back within 6 minutes of the Boro substitutions, with he score now 4-3 the Boro fans just wanted the game to end, but deep into injury time Hallam snatched their 4th goal of the game, pathetic defending and goalkeeping errors had thrown the game away, Hallam celebrated as if they had won the World cup, somehow we lost 2 points in a game which we could have won about 10-0, the Boro defence needs sorting out before next weeks presidents cup tie at Thackley and the more difficult journey to Farsley AFC in the league, this Hallam team were very ordinary, we were far better player for player and yet they staged a magnificent comeback to share the points, I have mentioned Jamie Waltham in many of my posts, but we have not been the same team in defence since Jamie and the club parted company, I would welcome Jamie back with open arms, I think most fans would also.

'BORO' BACK IN ACTION AT TADCASTER....."Hopefully"

Tomorrow will hopefully see Scarborough Athletic back in league action when we are due to play at Tadcaster Albion, but we have had another layer of snow fall this evening and it is snowing now at 9.30 pm on the eve of the game so I am guessing there will be a late pitch inspection sometime tomorrow.
  There are 2 other fixtures planned for tomorrow also, one is a top of the table clash between our landlords Bridlington Town who are in 3rd place and their visitors are 2nd placed Parkgate, this should be an excellent game, Town are in 3rd place on 32 points from 14 games played and Parkgate just above Town have 4 points more but have played 2 games more, so a cracking game can be expected at Queensgate.The other game is a mid table affair between 2 very average sides in Pickering Town and Selby Town, this game is of little importance but will no doubt receive plenty of coverage in the local paper with comments and opinions from the Pikes manager.
  Anyway back to football, Boro face a fairly difficult trip to Tadcaster, Taddy' are in 4th position and were playing well up to the big freeze which hit all the leagues sides hard.
   Following their excellent 1-0 victory away to Farsley they were unlucky to be knocked out of the League cup 3-2 going down to a last minute goal from Maltby Main's Daniel Jones.
   Albion had better luck in their next game as they progressed in the FA Vase, they were drawn away to Formby and thanks to an 85th minute goal from Graeme Whitehead they won the tie 3-2 and finally this was followed by an excellent 5-0 victory over Hallam in the league on December 14th.

FANTASTIC 4 GOAL COMEBACK BY 'BORO' TO PROGRESS IN LEAGUE CUP.

As I was unable to attend this game last night, here is the report on the game from the official site.Boro were 3-0 down after 20 minutes but still managed to progress to the next stage of the competition thanks to a 93rd minute winner from Chris Jenkinson.

Chris Jenkinson scored an injury-time winner, as a depleted Boro side fought back from three goals down to win 4-3 in the league cup at Grimsby Borough.

The first game at the Grimsby Community Stadium was a cracker, and although the majority of the 583 crowd were hoping for a home win, the entire spectatorship could not begrudge Boro their passage to the next round after an amazing fightback - whilst also playing the last 20 minutes with 10 men due to injuries.

Boro's side was drastically lacking in numbers, with Frank Belt (suspended), Ryan Blott (hamstring injury), and Rob Northen (wife gave birth yesterday) all missing from the regulars.

Graham Botham came back into the side on the left of midfield in place of Blott, with Joel Hartley filling Belt's right-wing berth. Nathan Hotte supported Bill Law in attack from a deeper role. Danny Clarke was named as sub, but was declared unfit in the warm-up, leaving Boro with just two subs.

Playing at their new £3m complex for the first time, Grimsby Borough were clearly in the mood to entertain the masses - many of whom had come down from neighbouring Grimsby Town to lend support.

And entertain them they did - taking a 3-0 lead within 20 minutes and stunning Boro and their travelling support.

The first came on five minutes, when a defensive clearance cannoned off Lee Stephenson who took advantage to beat Tom Woodhead and claim the first competitive goal at the new ground.

The second was Stephenson again five minutes later. He followed up Nathan Emson's shot which struck a post to score.

And the third, on 20 minutes, was all the work of Grimsby's best player on the night, Luke Mascal, who beat the offside trap and blasted in from the edge of the box.

Boro were shell-shocked. The team, bench and fans couldn't quite believe the start to the game. The home side was on top in every sense, with slick movement and passing that Boro couldn't cope with. But one hope was that 70 minutes still remained.

On 33 minutes a glimmer of hope. Joel Hartley recycled a cleared corner back to Mike Price, who delivered a inch perfect ball for Mike Gibson to power home his first goal of the season to make it 3-1.

The home side had to make a change in goal soon after, as Damien Steele was replaced by Lee Graves.

The second Boro goal, five minutes after the first, was very much route one, as Tom Woodhead's long kick was flicked on by Bill Law into the path of Botham, who looped over the stand-in keeper to score.

Boro's confidence was now well and truly up, and from a dire position they had gone into the changing rooms just one goal down, with a full 45 minutes to play.

Grimsby lost their captain to injury at half-time, but it was they who had the next opportunity to score, through dangerman Mascal. He beat the offside trap once again to round Woodhead - but when he needed a calm head he placed his shot against the post rather than hitting the net, albeit from a tight angle with defenders rushing to cover.

Gary Hepples entered the fray soon after for the injured Graham Botham, and he would be in the thick of the action straight away, playing from a left-sided midfield position.

On two occasions he powered into the box from that side to latch onto Joel Hartley's right-sided crosses. Both finishes went way over the bar however - but they proved to be sighters for his next chance.

On 61 minutes Nathan Hotte crossed, and at the second attempt Hepples poked the ball home for the equaliser and his first Scarborough Athletic goal since December 2008.

Chris Jenkinson replaced Dave Kemp soon after, with Denny Ingram reverting to right-back where he was to roll back the years to his Hartlepool days with a fine attacking performance.

But Boro then lost Brenton Leister to a hamstring injury. With Clarke unable to take the field, Boro would play the final 20 minutes with ten men.

And the ten men continued to dominate the game, winning every battle in midfield, and creating chances which couldn't quite be converted.

On 90 minutes Richard Dunning played Hartley through the middle, who held on to his shot a little, and it trickled wide with the keeper closing.

Everyone was ready for an extra 30 minutes, and with Hartley's chance going begging it seemed it was inevitable Boro fans would get home a little later.

But Jenkinson had other ideas, and after Mike Price swung in the final corner of the game, the sub centre-half scrambled to get a shot on target which crept just over the line - the assistant referee signalling a goal before another Boro player followed up to put the ball into the net.

Boro had completed the great escape, and go through to the third round of the competition.

Scarborough Athletic in the Koolsport Northern Counties East League Cup 2nd Round. What a great start for the Bradley Community Stadium, no offence to any other club but a club with Scarborough's history and fan base make them worthy opponenets for our first fixture.

How do you preview a night as big as this, it's difficult because all i want to put is bring it on, but here goes.

Grimsby Institute sponsored Grimsby Borough hope to be at full strength when they come onto the pitch to face Premier opposition in Scarborough Athletic.

Scarborough who are currently 13th in the Premier Division come into the game after a thrilling 3-3 draw with hosts and local rivals Bridlington Town on Saturday (a game played in front of over 700 spectators). Leading scorer Ryan Blott will be hoping to add to his seasons tally of 15 but here's hoping the Borough defence can stop him like they did the Lincoln defence last week.

Scarborough's new manager Paul Olsson will have looked at Borough's record in this competition and realised that they will be no pushovers. Last yeay Borough reached the Semi-Finals before being beaten by Dinnington Town having defeated Selby Town 5-0 on the way to the Semi's.

Borough managerial team of Steve Newby and Nigel Fanthorpe realise the importance of this fixture, not only in terms of progressing in the cup but also as an advert for all the new faces that will be at Bradley. Both men will be looking for Borough to recreate the sparkling form from last Wednesday as they try to impress our new fans.

Good to see that common sense has prevailed and Paul Olsson has been given the Boro job on a permanent basis. Paul along with assistant Darren France has been doing an excellent job and they have both quite rightly been given their respective posts on a permanent basis after acting as 'caretakers' following the forced absence of manager Brian France through injury and illness.
The players were happy with the set up and gave Paul Olsson and his staff their full backing and I personally never understood why the club had to advertise the Managers post at all.
We can all look forward now to another excellent derby fixture tomorrow with rivals Bridlington Town knowing that the managers job is settled at last.

BORO PROGRESS IN FA VASE WITH VICTORY AT ARMTHORPE

Boro are through to the next stage of the FA Vase following their victory in tonight's replay at Armthorpe.

Boro twice came back from behind. Graham Botham levelled the scores at 1-1, then Boro went 2-1 down and again fought back and Bill Law made the scoreline 2-2, and it was Ryan Blott who gave us a 3-2 lead which we held on to and now face a home tie with Spennymoor Town in the next round on December 4th at Queensgate.

Spennymoor are having a good season and are currently 2nd in the Northern League Division 1.

They are in great away form, unbeaten having won 9 and drawn 1 of their games on their travels, scoring 51 goals against just 13 in those 10 games played.

So it should be a great occasion on 4th December when we play them at Queensgate, the victors will then be just a possible 4 games away from a Wembley final appearance.

  IT WAS ALSO GOOD TO SEE JOEL HARTLEY START IN THIS GAME AND HE HAD ANOTHER VERY GOOD GAME FOR THE BORO.
  PICKERING'S 'KEEPER CLARK HAD A GOOD DAY AND KEPT THE BORO SCORE DOWN, HE SAVED BRILLIANTLY FROM A MIKE PRICE LONG DISTANCE FREE KICK.
  BORO WERE ON TOP IN EVERY DEPARTMENT BUT HAD TO SETTLE FOR A 0-0 SCORELINE AT HALF TIME.
  THE 2nd HALF GOT UNDER WAY AND AGAIN IT WAS ALL BORO, RYAN BLOTT AND JOEL HARTLEY WERE ESPECIALLY UNLUCKY NOT TO FIND THE BACK OF THE PIKES NET, BUT THROUGH THEIR CONTINUING PRESSURE BORO EVENTUALLY FOUND THE GOAL THAT THEY SO DESERVED, IT CAME JUST AFTER THE HOUR MARK.
  FOLLOWING A CORNER TAKEN BY DUNNING, IT WAS ACTUALLY BORO SUBSTITUTE CHRIS JENKINSON WHO TOOK HIS CHANCE AND HAMMERED THE BALL PAST PIKES 'KEEPER CLARK TO GIVE BORO THEIR MUCH DESERVED LEAD.

  PIKES DID STEP UP A GEAR AND LOOKED FOR AN EQUALISER BUT BORO STAYED STRONG AND KEPT THEIR ONE GOAL ADVANTAGE TO THE END OF THE GAME.
  PICKERING CAN THANK THEIR GOALKEEPER FOR THE LOW SCORELINE WHICH WAS VERY FLATTERING FOR MITCH COOKS TEAM.
  MUST JUST MENTION REFEREE 'Mr C. WOODALL' WHO GAVE A RED CARD TO BORO'S DAVE KEMP IN THE DYING MINUTES OF THE GAME, THIS FOLLOWED A FOUL ON A PIKES PLAYER BY BORO'S GOALSCORER, JENKINSON, THE FOUL DID NOT WARRANT A RED CARD ANYWAY BUT THE REF' AFTER CONSULTING ONE OF HIS CLUELESS ASSISTANTS EVENTUALLY GAVE THE WRONG PLAYER (KEMP) THE RED CARD FOR THE CHALLENGE MUCH TO THE AMAZEMENT OF ALL INSIDE QUEENSGATE.

Pink Day raises £1,400 for Breast Cancer Care

Proceeds of Boro's Pink Day which will be donated to Breast Cancer Care will be around the £1,400 mark.

Boro hosted their Pink Day on October 23rd against Brighouse Town, when the team wore a pink strip sponsored by local and national businesses, supporters and groups.

Sponsors of the kit were as follows: 2 - Prisma Colour, 3 - Harpers Fish and Chip Restaurant, 4 - Viking UK Gas Ltd, 5 - Plaxton, 6 - SAFC Supporters Club, Scarborough Evening News, 8 - Ultimate Creative Communications, 9 - Humber Learning Consortium, 10 - Scarborough Ladies FC, 11 - Spitting Lizard Print and Design, 12-17 - Shoreline Suncruisers.

All fans were encouraged to wear pink, and on the back of that, replicas of the team strip were made available for purchase, with £5 from each sale going to the charity.

After the home game against Pickering on Saturday the club held an auction to sell the pink shirts, which raised £640 extra for the charity.

The top bidding went on the number 9 shirt which was worn by Rob Northen on the day - in which he scored twice. That shirt sold for £130. Most other shirts sold for £30 or more, with all 15 shirts available selling in the auction.

Club communications director James Hunter, principle organiser of the fund-raising effort alongside fellow directors Wendy Danby and Andy Troughton, said: "What a fantastic amount to raise, and I didn't think we would even get to four-figures let alone the amount we did!

"We wish to thank all sponsors, supporters and auction bidders for their support - in particular members of the Brighouse Town FC committee who not only organised to sponsors and purchase the number 2 shirt, but also raised an extra £62 via a raffle held at their ground.

"Thanks also to Trophy Trader of Beaconsfield Street for printing of sponsors onto the shirts.

"There is still some money to come in from sponsors and auction winners, but once that is all in the total raised will be in excess of £1,750 before costs.

"I'm not sure if we will do the same again last year, but we will certainly continue to look for opportunities to contribute to both local and national charities through our community programme.

"We continue to support St Catherine's Hospice each season with our Goal-den Pledge Scheme, and we always try and participate in as many community projects as we can."

Total income for the charity came from the following areas: Kit sponsorship - £600; Auction sales - £640; 50p from each match programme - £76; Brighouse Town raffle - £62; Replica shirt £5s - £100; Donations and collections - £275; Total - £1,753.

Purchase of the kit and printing cost approx £350, therefore leaving £1,400 to donate to Breast Cancer Care.

A BUSY NOVEMBER AHEAD FOR 'THE BORO'

Following the much anticipated NCEL Premier league game with Pickering Town on Saturday which should pull in a crowd in excess of 500 supporters Scarborough Athletic will face a further six matches before the end of the month.
  On the following Tuesday we travel to Thackley for a Presidents Cup tie and this will be followed by the visit of Armthorpe to Queensgate in an FA Vase fixture, this should see Boro one step closer to Wembley Stadium, it will be good to see Jamie Green exercising his back muscles once again by picking the ball out of the Armthorpe net a few times and maybe just for once we will have a referee who will not tolerate this lunatics behaviour, I just do not know how he gets away with what he does time and again.
  I understand Armthorpe have secured the signing of a certain Mr Leo Fortune - West, no worries for us, the way we are playing they will fear us a lot more than we them.
  Anyway next up will be the league derby against our landlords Bridlington Town in what promises to be another exciting encounter.
  Next on the Tuesday evening (23/11) we go to Grimsby Borough in the league cup, this will be the first game for Grimsby at their newly built stadium, I am looking forward to that night.
  Finally on Saturday 27th we travel to Maltby Main in the league and the following Tuesday we are on the road again, this time to Nostell MW for the final league match of the month.
  So a very busy November which could see us climb the league table and progress in two cup competitions also.

TOP CLASS DISPLAY BY BORO AT HIGH-FLYERS PARKGATE

A fantastic game of football tonight by two teams out to please the watching crowd on a cold, wet and windy night in South Yorkshire, it was Boro who opened the scoring with what was a rather fortunate bounce of the ball for Ryan Blott.
  In the 26th minute of the game following a Boro corner, the ball landed at the feet of Ryan following an attempted clearance by the Parkgate defence and he swiftly reacted and hit the back of the net from close range.
   Ryan went on to be man of the match in my opinion, he had an excellent game all night long.
   Boro's joy however was shortlived as they allowed Parkgate an immediate equaliser.
   Both teams continued to play some excellent football, though the score remained at 1-1 as the referee blew for half time.
  Boro came out even stronger for the 2nd half, Joel Hartley had been an inspiration since his introduction mid way through the first half replacing n injured Gibson and it was one of his dazzling runs which lead to Boro's 2nd goal, as Joel approached the Parkgate goal after passing their defence with ease he was tripped by a Parkgate defender and the resulting penalty was put away by Ryan for what was not only his 2nd goal of the night but also the 2nd time he put Boro into the lead.
  But once again even though Boro were the stronger of the two teams they sat back and let Parkgate equalise, this time straight from the re-start , we watched as Parkgate attacked straight from their centre and they were level once again before Boro fans had even stopped celebrating their goal just seconds earlier.
  Boro controlled the rest of the game but could not find the winning goal, so we had to be satisfied with just the one point and not all three.
  But, a fantastic all round performance from Boro, I cannot wait for Saturday now when Mitch Cook's Pickering Town/ Scarborough Town shower grace us with their presence at Queensgate.
   I just hope that tonight's result and performance will stop the ridiculous posts and comments on certain forums regarding the future of the club and more importantly the future of the Boro management team, we have turned a corner and if we all pull together then the only way is up, tonight's performance was one of the best of the season.
